Dawnfolk has no reliably documented, current cheat-code list in the available official material. The developer does confirm that cheats disable achievements and rewards. The practical path to extra content is therefore to unlock the Secrets menu, play its documented challenges when available, and use exploration, timing and resource sequencing rather than unverified codes. The best-known route below comes from the developer’s 2026 Famine contest recap and must be treated as a contest-specific strategy, not a guaranteed solution for every map or update.
What Dawnfolk is built around
Dawnfolk is a survival city-builder in which you explore an unfamiliar map, gather resources, expand a settlement and manage dangers while deciding which discoveries to pursue first. Construction, research, workforce, food and light are linked: an apparently small exploration choice can change the rewards or options available several turns later. Minigames are part of that loop; the store description says they “add a unique challenge to supporting your people.”

The developer’s press kit estimates 6–10 hours for the main story, 15–20 hours for side levels and 50–70 hours for completionist play. Those are developer estimates, not independently measured averages, and your route can be longer if you experiment with different settlements or optional content.

The official material confirms a cheat system exists, but it does not publish a complete list of inputs, a current menu path or every condition needed to activate each cheat. Do not rely on code lists copied between versions unless the game itself currently displays and accepts them. Community guide listings on Steam include a developer-authored modding guide, but the directory alone does not verify a particular cheat or mod.

The important confirmed rule is the cost: using cheats disables achievements and rewards. That means a cheat can be suitable for experimentation or accessibility, but it is a poor choice for a run in which you want achievements, leaderboard results or contest prizes. Check the warning shown by your current game build before enabling anything, because menu labels and behavior can change in updates.
How to decide whether to use one
- Use a cheat only after you have accepted the loss of achievements and rewards for that run.
- Keep a separate save or profile for experiments if your platform allows it.
- Do not assume an old code works after a major update; the available official sources do not establish version-independent inputs.
- If a code is not shown by the current game or an official developer notice, treat it as unverified rather than forcing it into a live save.
How do you unlock Secrets in Dawnfolk?
The clearest documented flow is tied to the Famine contest. The developer instructed players to update to version 1.5.0, unlock Secrets from the main menu, earn more blue lights if the menu remained locked, and then choose the contest at the bottom of the Secrets menu.
- Update Dawnfolk to version 1.5.0 or a later build that still exposes the event.
- From the main menu, select Secrets. If it is locked, continue earning the required blue-light progress in normal play; the announcement does not state a universal numeric cost.
- Open Secrets and select the Famine contest entry at the bottom of that menu.
- Read the event rules and reward notice before starting. Challenge-specific scoring and eligibility take precedence over a normal story objective.
This was a time-limited event, not a permanent unlock guarantee. The Famine deadline was July 13, 2026, and the developer published results on July 16, 2026. If the entry is absent now, that does not prove your save is broken; the contest may simply no longer be active, or the menu may have changed in a later build. Verify the current in-game notice before spending time troubleshooting an event that has ended.
Famine contest results and what they mean
The official results list scores of 174 points for Borealis, 118 for second place and 81 for third place in 2026. Those figures measure that contest’s scoring rules and map; they are not a general Dawnfolk performance benchmark. During the event, the developer also reported that producing more than 31 Food would have been enough to make the top ten at that point in the leaderboard. That was a moving snapshot, not a lasting qualification threshold.

What should you prioritize on the first turn?
The developer’s Famine winner recap describes a route optimized for that contest’s map and objective. It is useful as a sequencing lesson, but it is not a universal build order. Pause the real-time timer while you inspect the opening, because the first turn determines which rewards and discoveries can compound later. If the initial layout is unusually weak, restarting was considered sensible in the recap.

Open with Science and economy
On turn one, Borealis pursued Science and economic momentum. The route collected shipwreck and treasure rewards, upgraded Home into a Forge, cleared the first Crypts and destroyed the eastern Obelisk. It then revealed the northern Elves, the Great Tree and the first Light Breaches before beginning Cow Pastures.
The order is more important than any isolated building. The winner explicitly noted that “The exact order matters, as some actions increase the rewards from others.” In practice, inspect the reward shown for a discovery before committing the next action; a sequence that looks equivalent on paper can produce less Science, Light or workforce when rewards are conditional.

After the fourth Light Breach was revealed, the winning route destroyed the remaining Obelisks while their costs were still low. The same recap places a fifth Light Breach far west through the swamp; an Ogre event there grants two Workforce. Treat that as a map-specific opportunity rather than a guaranteed event in story levels or future updates.
Handle the northwest rewards in the right order
In the northwest, claim the treasure chest before entering the Crypt. The recap says this raises the Crypt’s rewards. It also prioritizes Cow Pastures for most resource generation, with Production as the exception. During the Orc event, free the Orcs; after building a few Mines, make peace with Elf camps. These choices are tied to the Famine scenario’s costs and scoring, so compare the event text and your current workforce before copying them elsewhere.
Light, research and food management in the Famine route
Generate Light without Wells
The winning advice used Observatories, Wisps and Light Breaches for Light and specifically said not to build Wells. That does not establish Wells as universally bad; it shows that their opportunity cost was unfavorable on this contest map. If your scenario changes the available tiles, construction prices or Light income, recalculate rather than treating the statement as a permanent rule.

Follow the documented research order
For the contest, the reported research sequence was Tree of Life, Forge, Barracks, Market, Cow Pasture and finally Royal Farm on the last turn. Carpenter and Pyramid were optional. The order links exploration rewards to production and then to the final scoring window; in a normal level, a different danger or victory condition can make an earlier defensive technology more valuable.
Prevent Food overflow
Food that exceeds your useful capacity is wasted momentum in a short contest. The recap recommends trading surplus Food for Workforce through the Market and Druid. Leave at least one forest available—ideally east of Home—so the Druid can appear and trade additional Science. Before collecting another food reward, check storage and workforce limits; taking a reward immediately is not always optimal if it causes overflow.
- Check storage before opening a chest, finishing a pasture or triggering an event.
- Convert surplus Food while the Market or Druid can still provide Workforce.
- Reserve a forest tile for the Druid instead of clearing every nearby tree.
- Pause before an irreversible action and inspect whether a later action has a higher reward multiplier.
Another documented contest route: Snack The Cats
The earlier Snack The Cats results post shows a different use of exploration. The winning route treated exploration itself as a resource source, looked for a Golden Apple event so exploration could begin from turn zero, built four tents and one house upgrade, and used the tree upgrade to spawn Wisps that supplied Light and exploration.
Map-specific tactics from that contest
- Hunt animals for cat food instead of waiting solely for passive production.
- Route through Light Breaches and animal encounters when they improve the cat-village economy.
- Reveal fish tiles to increase food production for the cat village.
- Tame cows when the event and available workforce justify the investment.
- Ignore passive zombies on that contest map, or convert them to Workforce as an optional alternative.
Do not promise a Golden Apple event, passive zombies or the same fish-tile layout in another mode. The post records what won that particular contest; it does not define a universal Dawnfolk opening.
Hidden content, contests and rewards
Secrets can contain more than cheats. Official contests have used time limits, public leaderboards and rewards such as blue lights. Announcements also describe winner rewards including a custom tile, credits or Hall-of-Fame recognition and Discord access. Those benefits belong to the specific announcement and are not guaranteed permanent unlocks.

When a contest is active, read its scoring rule before optimizing your settlement. A normal story instinct—maximizing long-term production, for example—may lose to a short objective that rewards a precise sequence of discoveries. Save the announcement date and game version with your notes so you do not confuse a historical route with a current requirement.
Mods and community guides
Steam’s guide directory lists a developer-authored Dawnfolk modding guide alongside community help. The directory confirms that official modding guidance exists, but it does not validate individual mods, compatibility, safety or achievement behavior. Install only from a source you trust, back up saves where possible and read the current guide for version requirements. A mod that changes rewards may also invalidate achievements or contest eligibility even when it is not labeled a cheat.

Explore with a purpose
Exploration is not merely movement between buildings. Choose a destination that answers your immediate constraint: Light Breaches for Light, chests and shipwrecks for burst resources, animal or fish tiles for food, or a faction event that changes workforce and diplomacy. Keep enough workforce and storage open to collect the reward when you arrive.
Sequence discoveries and construction
Before spending a scarce resource, scan adjacent tiles and event text. An early Forge, Observatory or Market can alter the value of a later reward, while an unnecessary upgrade can consume the workforce needed to reach a high-value tile. Pause the timer whenever the game allows it, especially before a turn-ending action.

Balance production against capacity
More production is not automatically better if storage overflows or if the workforce needed to operate a building is unavailable. Convert excess Food, preserve forests that enable character events and avoid clearing every resource tile around Home. The Famine route’s Food-to-Workforce trades are a concrete example of this broader rule.

Use diplomacy and danger as resources
Orcs, Elves, Ogres and zombies can represent workforce, rewards, costs or delays depending on the event. Read the choice text and compare it with your current objective. Freeing Orcs and making peace with Elf camps worked in the Famine recap after Mines were established; another map may reward a different timing.
Controller or keyboard and mouse?
Steam lists full controller support and the developers recommend a controller. Keyboard and mouse are also supported, so the choice is comfort and preference rather than a documented performance advantage.

“Secrets” is still locked
Earn additional blue-light progress through normal play, then return to the main menu and check Secrets again. The Famine instructions do not publish a universal blue-light number, so do not assume a specific threshold from an older guide. Confirm that your game is updated before troubleshooting further.
The Famine entry is missing
Check the version and event dates first. The documented contest ended July 13, 2026, with results posted July 16. A missing entry after the event may be expected rather than a save error.
A cheat removed my rewards
That behavior matches the developer’s warning that cheats disable achievements and rewards. Return to an unmodified save or start a fresh run if you want normal progression; do not expect achievements to be retroactively restored by turning the cheat off.
A copied code does nothing
There is no verified, complete code list in the official material summarized here. Check the current in-game notice or the developer’s latest channel instead of repeatedly entering an unconfirmed command.

That is not evidence that the route was wrong. The Famine and Snack The Cats posts describe fixed contest maps, objectives and event placements. Re-evaluate the opening, reward order, storage limits and available tiles in your scenario.
