Chernarus loot generally improves as you travel inland and north-west: coastal areas are Tier 1, central towns and countryside are mostly Tiers 2–3, and the north-west military belt is Tier 4. Tisy is commonly treated as the top conventional tier, while the North-West Airfield (NWAF) is the most contested major target.

That is a useful route-planning model, not an official, fixed map. Community guides disagree on several towns, and custom servers can change the Central Loot Economy (CLE). Use the tables below as a practical baseline; use your server’s db/types.xml and related economy files when you need exact values.

A loot tier is an eligibility band used by the Central Loot Economy, not a promise that every building in a zone contains high-end equipment. The tier tells the economy where an item is allowed to appear. The server then applies item limits, category tags, building types, persistence rules and the current state of the map before creating a spawn.
The broad progression is consistent across community maps: start on the coast, move through inland settlements, then push into the north-west military areas. Tier 1 favors food, civilian clothing, basic tools and early medical supplies. Tiers 2 and 3 add better civilian and military opportunities. Tier 4 is where the strongest conventional military tables are concentrated. The exact boundary around a town can differ by server and by the guide being used.

Tier overview at a glance
| Tier | Typical geography | What you should expect | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Coast and immediate starting areas | Food, water containers, civilian clothing, simple tools and basic medical items | Broad pattern is consistent; individual sites can vary |
| Tier 2 | Inland countryside, medium towns and some accessible airfields | More complete civilian kits and the first dependable military or police upgrades | Several town assignments conflict between guides |
| Tier 3 | Major inland military compounds and airfields | Higher-grade weapons, ammunition, armor and military attachments | Military concentration is well established; borders are not |
| Tier 4 | Far north-west military complexes and special high-value sites | The best conventional military tables and the greatest PvP risk | Tisy and the Oil Rig are commonly listed here |
Every named Chernarus zone by commonly reported tier
The following table combines the recurring placements from several community guides. “Disputed” means another guide assigns the location to a neighboring tier or describes it as capable of producing gear from that tier. Treat the label as a planning aid, not a server guarantee.
| Zone or location | Common community placement | Practical interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Rify | Tier 1 in one commonly circulated list | Coastal start with limited early-game tables; do not expect the same military depth as the north-west. |
| Balota | Tier 1 in The Northmen’s adjusted list; sometimes treated separately as an early military stop | Useful soon after spawning because it is accessible, but its tier label is unresolved between guides. |
| Chernogorsk | Tier 2 in one list; another source says it can yield some Tier 3 gear | One of the most reliable coastal food and clothing towns, with police opportunities; do not assume every building uses Tier 3 tables. |
| Elektrozavodsk | Coastal/Tier 1–2 in practical route guides | Large coastal search area and a notable police-station loot source; traffic is usually higher than at smaller eastern starts. |
| Berezino | Coastal/Tier 1–2 in practical route guides | Good for food and medical resupply before moving inland; its hospital is a specific medical target. |
| Solnechny | Coastal starting area; no consistent formal tier assignment | Quieter than the largest coastal cities and associated with smaller loot pools, which can make a low-conflict start easier. |
| Svetloyarsk | Coastal starting area; no consistent formal tier assignment | Another lower-traffic option when you want to leave the coast without crossing a major city immediately. |
| North-East Airfield (NEAF) | Tier 2 | An accessible first airfield in the north-east; expect an upgrade over purely civilian coastal buildings, but not the depth of NWAF. |
| Green Mountain | Tier 2 | Listed with the central transition areas; use it as an inland waypoint rather than assuming Tier 3 military abundance. |
| Pavlovo | Tier 2 | Part of the mid-route western approach. It can support a developing character before a deeper north-west push. |
| Prison Island | Tier 2 | A specialized, exposed destination in the mid-tier list; island access and visibility matter as much as the nominal tier. |
| Novodmitrovsk | Tier 2 in BisectHosting’s guide | A large northern city that can provide a substantial resupply without being classified as a Tier 4 military destination. |
| Zelenogorsk | Tier 3 | A western inland staging point with stronger tables than the coast and a natural route toward military sites. |
| Myshkino | Tier 3 | Listed among the central-west military transition locations; a plausible stop before the most contested airfield areas. |
| Tri Kresta | Tier 3 | Included in Tier 3 military routing. Search methodically because a nominal tier does not remove item-limit or building-type restrictions. |
| Kamensk | Tier 3 in community maps and a known military spawn area | Loot databases list it with Tisy and NWAF for military items, including the AK101 entry. |
| Vybor / North-West Airfield (NWAF) | Tier 3 in The Northmen’s list; often treated as a top-end military target | The most contested major location. It can provide powerful equipment, but attracting other players is part of the expected cost. |
| VMC | Tier 3 | Another military location in the Tier 3 grouping; approach it as a PvP site, not a safe extension of the civilian route. |
| Oil Rig | Tier 4 | Listed as a highest-tier special location. Its isolation and approach make planning and extraction especially important. |
| Tisy | Tier 4 | Widely described as Chernarus’s highest conventional loot tier. It is the long-term destination for players seeking the strongest military tables. |
| Helicopter crash sites | Dynamic high-tier events rather than a permanent town tier | Community guides describe UH-1Y Venom and MI-8 wrecks as high-value opportunities that can appear away from fixed compounds. |
Why the same town can appear in two tiers
Guides may be documenting different game versions, server files or map interpretations. A guide can also use “Tier 3 gear” to describe what has been observed in a town, while another uses the zone’s configured tier label. Chernogorsk illustrates this distinction: one list places it in Tier 2, while another notes that some Tier 3 equipment can appear there. Balota is similarly described as Tier 1 in one list but recommended as an early military stop because of its accessibility.
Where each type of loot concentrates
Tier alone is not enough. The CLE also assigns categories and locations, so the right building often matters more than the town’s headline tier.

| Loot category | Reliable targets from the available data | How to use that information |
|---|---|---|
| Military weapons and equipment | Tier 3 and Tier 4 military areas, especially Tisy, NWAF and Kamensk | Plan a north-west push when you need rifles, armor or military attachments, and expect heavier competition. |
| AK101 | Listed by a server-file loot database as military-only at Tisy, NWAF and Kamensk | Search those military zones first; a missing rifle does not prove the server is broken because item limits and custom edits can suppress spawns. |
| Police equipment | Police stations in Chernogorsk and Elektrozavodsk | Use the large coastal cities for an early firearm, ammunition or protective-equipment search before committing inland. |
| Medical supplies | Hospitals in Chernogorsk, Berezino and Gorka | Route through a hospital when you need bandages, medication or a fuller medical kit rather than checking random houses. |
| Dynamic military loot | UH-1Y Venom and MI-8 helicopter wreck events | Investigate only with an exit plan. The reward can be high, but the event is exposed and other players may be tracking it. |
The database behind these examples is derived from server files and explicitly warns that modded or custom servers may differ. A community map can show where an item is normally eligible; only the active server configuration determines what is actually spawning.
A practical gear-progression route
Use the route as a sequence of capability checks, not a rigid itinerary. If you already have the required food, water and medical supplies, skip ahead; if a town is busy, move to the next equivalent area.

- Award winning innovative design that bridges the gap between roleplaying and boardgaming in space by integrating ship to ship and boarding action.
- You and your friends play characters as the crew of a ship laid out in modular format. Your ship is on a hex map. The enemy controls whatever challenges you face. Your continuing characters rise in power as you face tougher and more exciting challenges.
- Age 12+ / 1-6 players / 60-240 minutes playing time
- Second edition, advanced rule book sold seperately
- Stabilize on the coast. Search a coastal settlement for food, a water container, basic clothing, a knife or other cutting tool, and enough basic medical supplies to survive an injury. Chernogorsk is the most consistently useful large coastal search according to route guides, while Solnechny and Svetloyarsk offer quieter alternatives with smaller loot pools.
- Choose a low-risk first military stop. Balota and Krasnostav are commonly used as the first military-gear destinations after the coast. Balota is close and accessible but has a disputed tier label; Krasnostav is a practical early airfield target before the north-west.
- Build a complete mid-tier kit. Move through inland towns and the Tier 2 group—such as NEAF, Green Mountain, Pavlovo, Prison Island or Novodmitrovsk—until you have reliable food, ammunition, weather protection and a medical reserve. Police stations in Chernogorsk and Elektrozavodsk can fill firearm and ammunition gaps; hospitals in Cherno, Berezino and Gorka address medical gaps.
- Stage in the west before entering the hot zone. Zelenogorsk, Myshkino, Tri Kresta and Kamensk form the Tier 3 transition in community lists. Top off water and food, repair or replace essential equipment, and decide whether your group can extract under fire before heading to an airfield.
- Pick a Tier 3 objective. NWAF (Vybor) is the obvious high-reward target but also the most contested. VMC and Kamensk can provide serious military opportunities with different approach and escape options. Move with cover, avoid unnecessary looting time and keep a fallback route.
- Commit to Tier 4 only with an extraction plan. Tisy and the Oil Rig are commonly placed in Tier 4. Enter when your character can survive a prolonged fight and when you know where you will leave afterward. A full inventory is not useful if you cannot carry food and medical supplies for the return journey.
- Take dynamic opportunities selectively. A helicopter crash can contain high-tier equipment, but it is an exposed event rather than a dependable route. Scout first, take only what improves your kit, and leave before a second group arrives.
How the Central Loot Economy decides what appears
The CLE controls how many copies of an item may exist on a server and where those copies are eligible to spawn. It works with location and category tags such as Military, Hospital and Village, alongside tier zones and item-specific limits.
That means a Tier 4 military area can still be empty of a particular rifle. The server may already have its allowed copies in player inventories, containers or other persistent locations; the item may be restricted to a specific building category; or the server may have changed the limits. Server restarts do not guarantee an immediate full refill.

Custom servers can redefine the map and shorten configuration files with tier limiters. The CE Editor community documentation describes loot spawnpoints and tier zones as separate parts of map setup, which is why a visual map and a server’s XML can disagree.

Only an administrator or someone with access to the server’s files can perform this check. File names and paths below describe the standard configuration layout; hosts may package them differently.
- Open
db/types.xml. Find the item you care about and inspect its nominal limits, lifetime and category or usage entries. This tells you whether the item is enabled and how many copies the economy is allowed to maintain. - Check tier definitions. Review
cfglimitsdefinitionuser.xmland relatedcfglimitsdefinitionfiles. Administrators often define a combined limiter such asTier234and reference it fromtypes.xml; this can hide the detailed tier assignment behind a shorthand name. - Review
db/economy.xml. This contains the main economy settings that influence how the server processes spawning and cleanup. - Check
globals.xml. Global spawning controls and infected or animal limits can affect the overall economy’s behavior, even when the item’s own entry is unchanged. - Compare the active files with the map. If the XML assigns a location or tier differently from a community map, trust the active server files for that server. Record the server version and mod list before comparing results with another player.
Common reasons a “high-tier” run produces poor loot
- You searched the wrong building class. A military zone does not turn houses into barracks, and a hospital’s medical table will not contain every military item.
- The item is at its server limit. Existing copies can be in player inventories, tents, vehicles or other persistent containers, preventing a new spawn.
- The server is customized. Modded economies frequently alter usage tags, tiers, limits and spawnpoints, so a vanilla map is only a starting reference.
- The location label is disputed. Chernogorsk, Balota and NWAF demonstrate why community tier names should not be treated as official boundaries.
- You are judging one sweep as a spawn-rate test. No published, authoritative spawn-rate statistic establishes how quickly a particular item should appear. A single empty circuit cannot validate or disprove a tier assignment.
- You overlooked dynamic loot timing. Helicopter crashes are events, not permanent structures. Their absence says nothing about the fixed tier of the town you are in.
- The route is too noisy to complete. NWAF and Tisy may have excellent eligibility but still yield less usable gear than a quieter Tier 2 route if repeated fights stop you from searching or extracting.
Choosing a destination by your actual goal
| Your goal | Best starting target | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Recover from a fresh spawn | Chernogorsk, Elektrozavodsk, Berezino, Solnechny or Svetloyarsk | Food, clothing and basic survival items are more important than a nominal tier at this stage. |
| Find an early firearm | Police stations in Chernogorsk or Elektrozavodsk, then Balota or Krasnostav | These locations combine accessible police or early military opportunities with a shorter coast-to-inland transition. |
| Restock medicine | Hospitals in Chernogorsk, Berezino or Gorka | Category-specific buildings are more efficient than random residential searches. |
| Upgrade to serious military gear | Kamensk, VMC or NWAF | These are listed in the Tier 3 military group and are more practical stepping stones than jumping directly from the coast to Tisy. |
| Chase the highest conventional tier | Tisy or the Oil Rig | Both are commonly listed as Tier 4, but the travel, exposure and PvP costs are substantial. |
| Look for an event-driven jackpot | A helicopter crash site | UH-1Y Venom and MI-8 wrecks are described as high-tier dynamic events, with no fixed town tier to memorize. |
For most survivors, the efficient pattern is not “run straight to Tier 4.” Secure the coast, use a mid-tier town to complete the basics, then choose one military objective whose risk and extraction route you can manage. Treat every named tier as an eligibility clue and verify unusual results against the active server configuration.
