If DayZ crashes on PS4, start by closing and reopening the game, then restart the console and install any available game and system updates. If you see error code CE-34878-0, it means “An error occurred with the game/application”; it does not identify a DayZ-specific cause. Work through the steps below in order, moving to the more disruptive options only if the crash continues.
What CE-34878-0 means
PlayStation describes CE-34878-0 as “An error occurred with the game/application.” It is a general game or application error, not a diagnosis of why DayZ crashed. The same error can therefore call for basic game and console checks before assuming the cause is a particular update, hardware fault, or DayZ bug. PlayStation’s CE-34878-0 guidance and game-support guidance for the error recommend starting with straightforward troubleshooting.
Try these nine fixes in order
1. Close and relaunch DayZ
Close DayZ fully, then start it again. This is the quickest first check and does not change your console or game data.
2. Restart the PS4
Restart the console, wait for it to return to the home screen, and launch DayZ again. A full restart is a recommended first-line step for CE-34878-0.

3. Check for a DayZ update
- Highlight DayZ on the PS4 home screen.
- Press the Options button.
- Select Check for Update and install an update if one is available.
4. Check for a PS4 system software update
Open Settings > System Software Update and install any available update. PlayStation recommends keeping both the game and console software current when troubleshooting this error.
5. Test without a PS Camera and Face Recognition
This is a general PlayStation diagnostic, not a DayZ-specific fix. If a PS Camera is connected, unplug it and restart the console. Then open Settings > Login Settings and turn off Enable Face Recognition. Test DayZ again.

6. Rebuild the PS4 database in Safe Mode
If the simpler checks have not helped, try rebuilding the database. PlayStation includes this among general game-performance troubleshooting steps for problems such as crashes. It is not a guaranteed fix, so use it as a later diagnostic rather than the first thing to try. Follow PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions and choose the database rebuild option.
7. Reinstall DayZ
If DayZ still crashes, uninstall it and install it again. Before changing game data, back up saved data and follow PlayStation’s guidance for managing PS4 storage and saved data. Reinstalling is a later step because it takes more time and involves changing game data.

8. Check the disc, only if you play from one
If you use a DayZ disc and the problem involves the console reading or loading it, inspect the disc and clean it with a soft, clean cloth. PlayStation also recommends testing another disc when diagnosing disc-reading problems. This check is not a general remedy for every game crash.
9. Get PlayStation support for persistent or wider errors
Contact PlayStation Repairs if crashes affect multiple games or DayZ fails immediately at launch despite the earlier checks. Initialization is a last resort, not a routine crash fix: it erases all data in console storage. Back up first and follow PlayStation’s instructions before considering it.

If the PS4’s hard drive was replaced
If you replaced the console’s HDD, PlayStation advises reinstalling the original HDD as a conditional troubleshooting check. That guidance does not establish that buying a new drive will fix an ordinary DayZ crash; do not treat a replacement drive as a general solution.

There was a documented PS4 crash issue after DayZ update 1.05 in 2019. On October 23, a DayZ producer said the developers were aware of the crashes, had not identified their roots, and saw multiple possible causes without reliable reproduction steps. A follow-up on October 30 said an update had been released to mitigate crashes affecting some PS4 players and mentioned adjusted memory distribution. Those posts describe a historical incident; they do not establish the cause of a crash today or confirm the current PS4 patch status. The DayZ forum thread records the discussion.
