Unearthed Arcana 2026: Mystic Subclasses introduces four experimental options for the 2024 Player’s Handbook: a spellcasting Monk, a Paladin built to guard against magic, a Rogue who disrupts spellcasters, and a Warlock with a summoned divine remnant. They are playtest drafts—not official game options in the form presented in the PDF.
What are the four new Unearthed Arcana subclasses?
The four subclasses each bring magic into a different class fantasy. The labels in the final column are shorthand for how their features appear to function, not official role classifications.

All four are in the official Unearthed Arcana 2026: Mystic Subclasses PDF, which says the material uses the 2024 Player’s Handbook rules.
How does each subclass work?
Warrior of the Mystic Arts: a Monk with Sorcerer spells
The Monk gains spellcasting from the Sorcerer spell list beginning at level 3, using Wisdom as its spellcasting ability. At level 6, it can convert spell slots into Focus Points and Focus Points into spell slots. It can also replace an attack with a Sorcerer cantrip; at level 17, it can replace two attacks with a level 1 or 2 Sorcerer spell.

Oath of the Spellguard: a Paladin who protects against magic
This oath casts the Paladin as a guardian against harmful or villainous magic. Guardian Bond can help a nearby ally avoid a hit, while Spellguard Strike lets the Paladin use a reaction to make a melee attack when a creature within reach casts a spell. Later features improve concentration and defenses against counterspell effects.
Magic Stealer: a Rogue who turns spells into an opening
When a nearby creature casts a level 1 or higher spell, the Rogue can absorb energy and add force damage to a later Sneak Attack. The subclass can also end an ongoing low-level spell on a willing creature to regain a spell slot. Later Cunning Strike options let the Rogue interfere with spellcasting or resistance.

Vestige Patron: a Warlock with a remnant companion
The Warlock makes a pact with an abandoned, dying god and summons a Celestial, Fiend, or Undead companion. The companion acts during the Warlock’s turn and develops through subclass features, giving this option the most direct summoned-companion focus of the four.
Are these subclasses official, or still playtest material?
They are experimental drafts, not official options in the form shown in the PDF. The document states: “The options here are experimental and in draft form.” It immediately adds: “They aren’t officially part of the game.” Wizards says feedback may affect whether options are refined or become official; it does not promise that any will be adopted.

The PDF invites groups to try the material in an existing campaign or a special playtest session and says feedback will be collected through a D&D Beyond survey. The available official sources do not establish the survey’s current status or its results.
What happened to the subclasses after the playtest?
The official Arcana Unleashed product page lists Warrior of the Mystic Arts and Vestige Patron among the book’s eight subclasses. That confirms those names appear in the product listing, but the page does not establish whether their final features match the playtest drafts. It also does not confirm that Oath of the Spellguard or Magic Stealer was adopted. The UA PDF and the later product listing should therefore be treated as distinct snapshots, not interchangeable rules references.

D&D Beyond’s Unearthed Arcana archive entry lists the Mystic Subclasses designer-insights article on January 15, 2026, and summarizes the four options.

- Choose Warrior of the Mystic Arts if you want a Monk whose martial turns can incorporate Sorcerer magic and whose resources can shift between spells and Focus Points.
- Choose Oath of the Spellguard if your Paladin concept centers on protecting allies from enemies who rely on spells.
- Choose Magic Stealer if you want a Rogue who gains an offensive opening from nearby spellcasting and can interfere with enemy magic.
- Choose Vestige Patron if the Warlock’s relationship with a strange patron and an evolving summoned companion is the main appeal.
These are ways to read the draft features, not balance judgments or recommendations for a particular campaign. A DM should decide whether to allow the playtest material and how to handle updates as the draft changes.
