Short answer: If you are buying Dead Cells digitally for the first time and want every paid expansion, choose the Medley of Pain Bundle. It contains the base game plus The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea, and Return to Castlevania. If you already own the game, the three-item DLC Bundle adds the first three paid expansions but does not include Return to Castlevania. The Prisoner’s Edition is a physical collector’s set with The Bad Seed access and substantial memorabilia, not a complete DLC collection. Rise of the Giant is free and is separate from every paid bundle.
Dead Cells editions at a glance
Dead Cells is sold as a base game, individual expansions, digital bundles and physical collector products. The important distinction is whether a package contains the game itself, which paid expansions it includes, and whether it is digital or physical. The table below separates gameplay content from extras so you can see exactly what you are buying.

Which Dead Cells DLC is free?
Rise of the Giant
Rise of the Giant is free DLC. Nintendo’s catalogue labels it “Free download.” It is not one of the three items in the paid DLC Bundle, and buying a paid bundle is not required to obtain it. On a supported platform, add or download it separately through the game’s store page or DLC management screen.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Because Rise of the Giant is separate from the paid expansions, a player can own the base game and this free content without owning The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea, or Return to Castlevania.
What is in each paid expansion?
The Bad Seed
The Bad Seed is a paid expansion that adds an alternate route near the beginning of a run and an alternate first boss. The boss reference identifies Mama Tick as that alternate first boss. It is designed to give early-game runs another branch rather than replace the main progression.
The Bad Seed is included in both the three-item DLC Bundle and the Medley of Pain Bundle. It is also the only paid expansion listed with the Prisoner’s Edition. The collector set therefore gives access to this expansion, but not to the later paid packs.
Recommended Free Tools
Fatal Falls
Fatal Falls is a paid expansion built around an alternate mid-game route. Its alternate second boss is identified as The Scarecrow. In practical terms, it gives an established save another route to explore after the early sections of the game.
Fatal Falls is included in the DLC Bundle and the Medley of Pain Bundle. It is not listed in the Prisoner’s Edition contents, so owning that physical set does not grant this expansion.
The Queen and the Sea
The Queen and the Sea is the late-game paid expansion. It was released for PC and consoles on January 6, 2022. The expansion adds three areas that form an alternative endgame path:
- Infested Shipwreck
- Lighthouse
- The Crown
Alongside those biomes, it adds new enemies, a boss, outfits, gear and an alternate ending. Its late-game placement means it is most relevant once you are comfortable with the base game’s routes and difficulty, although ownership does not require you to finish the main game first.

The Queen and the Sea appears in the DLC Bundle and Medley of Pain Bundle. It is absent from the Prisoner’s Edition contents.
Return to Castlevania
Return to Castlevania is a separate paid crossover expansion released in 2023 according to Nintendo’s catalogue date. The major boss encounters identified for the expansion are Death, Dracula and Dracula Final Form.
This expansion is the easy-to-miss item when comparing bundles. The three-item DLC Bundle stops at The Queen and the Sea; it does not include Return to Castlevania. The Medley of Pain Bundle does include it, and the Medley of Pain Bundle + OST includes it as well. Return to Castlevania is not listed in the Prisoner’s Edition.
The DLC Bundle: what you get and what you do not
The standard DLC Bundle is a three-item digital package. Steam itemizes its contents as:
- Dead Cells: The Bad Seed
- Dead Cells: Fatal Falls
- Dead Cells: The Queen and the Sea
It does not contain the base game and does not contain Return to Castlevania. It is therefore the natural upgrade for someone who already owns Dead Cells and wants the first three paid expansions. If you want the Castlevania crossover too, you must add Return to Castlevania separately unless your store offers a different package that explicitly lists it.
Nintendo’s current US list price shown for this three-item bundle is $11.99. That is a catalogue list price for the US storefront, not a guarantee of the amount charged in another country, on another platform, or during a sale.
The Medley of Pain Bundle: the complete paid-DLC digital package
For a new digital buyer, Medley of Pain is the most straightforward all-content choice. Steam lists five items:
Rank #3
- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Dead Cells
- The Bad Seed
- Fatal Falls
- The Queen and the Sea
- Return to Castlevania
That makes it the complete paid-DLC package: the base game plus all four paid expansions. It does not rely on a separate purchase of Rise of the Giant, because that content is free and handled independently.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Medley of Pain is preferable to buying the base game and then discovering that the cheaper-looking DLC Bundle omits Return to Castlevania. Store discounts and regional prices vary, so compare the live total with the cost of separate items on your platform before checkout. The defining feature is the item list, not a permanent global price.
What is in Medley of Pain Bundle + OST?
This version contains the same five gameplay items as Medley of Pain, then adds three digital soundtrack products:
- Dead Cells Soundtrack
- Demake Soundtrack
- Return to Castlevania Soundtrack
There are eight listed items in all. The soundtracks are extras for listening; they do not add biomes, bosses, weapons, outfits, endings or any other gameplay content. Choose this package only if you want the music files in addition to the complete game and paid DLC collection.
What comes in the Prisoner’s Edition?
The Prisoner’s Edition is a physical collector set rather than an all-DLC edition. Its listed game package is the physical Action Game of the Year release with access to The Bad Seed. The set’s listed contents are:

- A physical Action Game of the Year copy

- A keyring
- Access to The Bad Seed DLC
The contents list does not include Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea or Return to Castlevania. Those omissions matter: the Prisoner’s Edition is not a physical equivalent of Medley of Pain. It is aimed at people who value the boxed game and memorabilia, while buyers seeking every paid expansion need to budget for the missing DLC separately.
The official product information lists the Action Game of the Year Edition as a physical Nintendo Switch release from 2019 and also shows physical platform editions and soundtrack products. Physical availability and platform stock can change, so confirm the exact system and included code or disc before ordering a used or imported set.

Dead Cells pricing and regional availability
The following figures are current US list prices shown by Nintendo for individual paid DLC and the three-item bundle:

| The Bad Seed | $4.99 | Current US catalogue list price; sales and other regions may differ |
| Fatal Falls | $4.99 | Current US catalogue list price; sales and other regions may differ |

| Return to Castlevania | $9.99 | Current US catalogue list price; sales and other regions may differ |

| Medley of Pain Bundle + OST | Not stated | Steam lists eight items including three soundtracks; store pricing varies |
Do not infer a permanent price for Steam, Nintendo or another platform from a different storefront. Taxes, currency conversion, sales and platform-specific promotions can change the checkout total. The stable comparison is which products are listed in the package.
Which version should you buy?
You are new to Dead Cells and buying digitally
Choose Medley of Pain Bundle. It includes the base game and all four paid expansions, including Return to Castlevania. You avoid paying for the base game separately and avoid the common mistake of assuming the three-item DLC Bundle includes every expansion.
You already own the base game
Choose the DLC Bundle if you want The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls and The Queen and the Sea. Add Return to Castlevania separately if you want the Castlevania crossover. This route matches the bundle’s purpose and prevents you from buying a second copy of the base game in an all-in-one package.
You want every paid expansion but already own some DLC
Check your platform’s ownership status before buying a bundle. If you already own any of the three items in the DLC Bundle, purchasing them again may not be the best value. Compare the price of the missing expansions—especially Return to Castlevania—with the complete package available on your store. The listings establish the contents, while the best financial choice depends on your account’s existing licenses and the current sale.
You want a collector’s object and a physical copy
Choose Prisoner’s Edition for the figurine, embossed tin, pins, stickers, art card, certificate, vinyl, artbook and keyring. Treat The Bad Seed as the included DLC, not as proof that the set contains the later expansions. Plan separate purchases for Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea and Return to Castlevania.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou also want the music
Choose Medley of Pain Bundle + OST if your store lists it and you want all eight digital items. The three soundtrack products are listening extras; they do not change the playable content compared with the ordinary Medley of Pain Bundle.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
How the expansions fit into a normal playthrough
The paid DLC is not one linear campaign that must be purchased in a particular order. Each expansion adds alternate routes or areas that can appear as you progress:
- The Bad Seed: an alternate first-boss route featuring Mama Tick.
- Fatal Falls: an alternate mid-game route featuring The Scarecrow as its alternate second boss.
- The Queen and the Sea: a late-game route through Infested Shipwreck, Lighthouse and The Crown, with an alternate ending.
- Return to Castlevania: a crossover route with Death, Dracula and Dracula Final Form as major boss encounters.
This structure means a new player can begin with the base game, learn its movement and combat, and then explore the additional branches as they become available. Buying a bundle grants ownership; it does not require you to play every expansion immediately.
Common buying mistakes
Assuming “DLC Bundle” means all DLC
It does not. The standard DLC Bundle contains exactly three items and omits Return to Castlevania. Read the itemized list rather than relying on the word “bundle.”

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Confusing free and paid content
Rise of the Giant is free. The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea, and Return to Castlevania are the four paid expansions. A paid bundle is not required for the free expansion.
Treating the Prisoner’s Edition as a complete collection
The collector set includes The Bad Seed access and physical memorabilia, but its listed contents do not include the other three paid expansions. It is a physical collector purchase, not the physical version of Medley of Pain.
Buying soundtrack items expecting new gameplay
The Medley of Pain Bundle + OST adds Dead Cells Soundtrack, Demake Soundtrack and Return to Castlevania Soundtrack. Those are music products, not additional areas or equipment.
Ignoring platform and region
Digital licenses are tied to the storefront and platform on which you buy them. Physical sets may be region-specific or out of stock. Confirm the platform, edition name, included items and currency on the live store page before completing the order.
Decision checklist
- Do you own the base game? If not, start with Medley of Pain for all paid gameplay content.
- Do you already own Dead Cells? The DLC Bundle covers the first three paid expansions; Return to Castlevania is separate.
- Do you want a physical collector set? Prisoner’s Edition supplies memorabilia and The Bad Seed, not every expansion.
- Do you want soundtracks? Select Medley of Pain Bundle + OST.
- Have you checked your region’s price and stock? Prices, discounts and physical availability vary.
- Have you remembered Rise of the Giant? It is a free download separate from paid DLC bundles.
Bottom line
For a complete digital purchase, Medley of Pain Bundle is the clear choice because it combines Dead Cells with all four paid expansions, including Return to Castlevania. Existing owners should use the three-item DLC Bundle for The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls and The Queen and the Sea, then buy Return to Castlevania separately if wanted. Choose Prisoner’s Edition for its physical collectibles and The Bad Seed access—not as a complete DLC set—and choose the OST variant only when the three included soundtracks are part of what you want.
