Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster refreshes the original game’s presentation and smooths several rough edges, but its defining appeal remains the same: a 72-hour race through a zombie-filled mall where every detour can cost you. Capcom calls it a remaster; its rebuilt visuals and controls also give reviewers reason to describe it as remake-like. The result is a modernized version of a distinctive 2006 design, not a clean break from its old-school survival pressure.
What is Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster?
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is Capcom’s updated version of the first Dead Rising, rebuilt using the RE ENGINE. Freelance photojournalist Frank West enters the quarantined Willamette shopping mall to investigate a zombie outbreak. The game’s structure revolves around a 72-hour survival window, crowded areas full of zombies, improvised weapons, survivors to help and dangerous human opponents. Capcom announced the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Its digital release was September 19, 2024; a physical version was scheduled for November 2024. Capcom’s official game page and PlayStation’s announcement outline the premise and release details.

Is it a remake or a remaster?
Capcom’s official name is Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, and its announcements describe improved graphics, modeling, controls and 3D audio rather than labeling it a remake. The terminology is not universal, though: TechRadar Gaming reviewer Rhys Wood called it a “halfway house” between a conventional remaster and a “faithful remake carefully built from the ground up in Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine.” That is Wood’s assessment, not Capcom’s classification. The practical distinction is that the project substantially rebuilds presentation and updates systems while retaining the original’s central mall-survival setup.
What changed in the Deluxe Remaster?
Visuals and sound
Capcom says the remaster improves graphics, character modeling and 3D audio. PlayStation describes a full graphical overhaul, including updated characters and environments, while emphasizing that the chaotic gameplay remains intact. These are substantial presentation upgrades on paper, but the material available here does not establish a firsthand, scene-by-scene comparison with the 2006 release.

Controls, interface and saving
Official feature descriptions list revamped controls, an improved UI and autosaving among the quality-of-life changes. Those updates address convenience and accessibility compared with the original’s more demanding save friction. They do not, by themselves, prove that the game’s time pressure or mission difficulty has been rebalanced; no direct comparison establishes how autosaving changes the pace in play.
Voice acting and language support
Capcom lists full voice acting and support for text in 14 languages and voice in nine. Availability of a particular language may depend on the platform and regional release, so check the store listing for the version you plan to buy.
Weapons, abilities and bonus content
Xbox Wire’s feature on the game points to a restored rocket launcher that was cut from the original, additional books that grant abilities, and 17 bonus outfits with matching music in the Digital Deluxe Edition. Edition contents and availability can vary by store and region; consult the current listing before choosing an edition.

Does it keep the 72-hour timer?
Yes. The 72-hour survival window remains central to the setup, alongside the crowds, survivors, makeshift weapons and human enemies. The timer is what gives the mall’s many possible distractions their cost: investigating, fighting or helping people competes with the time available. Capcom and PlayStation describe the core gameplay as retained, but the available sources do not establish through direct comparison whether the remaster’s autosaving or other changes alter the pressure in practice.

There is no basis for assuming the PC version will perform equally well on every system. Capcom Support’s Steam troubleshooting guidance, updated July 20, 2026, advises players to compare their hardware with the official minimum requirements; systems below them may have poor frame rates or fail to run the game. The support article says some high-end integrated graphics and modern laptop-integrated GPUs may work, but they have not been tested or officially supported. Check the current Steam listing for the requirements that apply to your purchase.

Verdict: a more accessible route back to Willamette
The remaster’s strongest case is that it refreshes the look and feel of a singular mall-survival game without discarding the structure that made it distinctive. Updated presentation, controls, UI and autosaving are meaningful modernization points; they are not proof that every old frustration has been fixed. If you want the original’s time-pressured chaos with a contemporary technical makeover, this is the version designed to deliver it. If your main concern is whether its changes fully rebalance difficulty, pacing or survivor behavior, the documented features alone cannot settle that question.
Capcom said the Dead Rising series had exceeded 16 million cumulative sales as of March 31, 2024. Separately, its August 30, 2006 announcement reported more than 500,000 original-game units shipped in the first two weeks; that is a shipment figure, not a like-for-like series sales total.
