Deadhand Theater’s current status on Steam
The first question is whether there is a downloadable demo to install. The Steam listing says, “This game is not yet available on Steam,” and gives the release date as “To be announced.” That means the full game has no public release date on the listing.

A playtest request is not the same thing as a public demo: access may be limited, invitation-based or unavailable until the developer enables it. The cited listing does not confirm a generally available demo download, so you should not assume that searching Steam’s library will produce an installable demo.
If Steam later exposes a separate demo application or grants playtest access, treat that build as a changing pre-release version. Requirements, compatibility labels and even available features can change before launch.

The current Steam metadata lists the following targets. These are store requirements, not a published benchmark. The listing does not state the testing resolution, frame-rate target, graphics preset, processor generation, graphics-memory requirement or whether the figures apply to a specific demo build.

“Minimum” normally identifies the developer’s baseline target for starting and playing the build, while “recommended” is the preferred configuration. It is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or image quality. In this case, both tiers specify 8 GB of RAM and 1 GB of storage; the listed step up is the processor and graphics card.
What the minimum line tells you
- Windows 10 is the listed operating system. The page does not state a separate Windows 11 requirement or provide Linux and macOS requirements.
- Core i3 is the minimum processor class. No model number or generation is supplied, so an older and newer Core i3 cannot be treated as identical.
- 8 GB of RAM is the current minimum. The same amount is shown in the recommended row.
- A GTX 1060 is the minimum graphics listing. The store metadata does not specify a VRAM variant, driver version or graphics preset.
- 1 GB of free storage is listed. Keep additional space available for Steam files, updates and temporary installation data even though the page gives only this figure.
What the recommended line changes
The recommended row raises the processor from Core i3 to Core i5 and the graphics card from GTX 1060 to RTX 2060. RAM remains 8 GB and listed storage remains 1 GB. Because no workload, resolution or frame-rate target is published, “recommended” should be read as the developer’s preferred class rather than a measured promise.

An earlier crawl of the same Steam listing showed different numbers: 4 GB minimum RAM, 2 GB of storage, and 8 GB recommended RAM. Those values are historical metadata, not the current specification. The live listing’s current figures are 8 GB minimum RAM, 8 GB recommended RAM and 1 GB storage for both tiers.

Store metadata can be edited as development progresses. Before installing any future demo or playtest, open the live Steam page and read the requirements shown there rather than relying on a cached article, an old screenshot or a third-party system checker.
Can Deadhand Theater run on Steam Deck?
There is no confirmed answer yet. Steam’s official badge currently says Steam Deck Compatibility Unknown. Valve has not supplied a current Verified, Playable or Unsupported classification on the listing.
Unknown is an absence of an official assessment, not a positive or negative result. It does not mean the game is broken, and it does not mean it will work. You should not promise that the demo runs, quote a frame rate, or select Proton settings solely from the Windows requirements.
Why the Windows figures cannot settle Deck compatibility
The requirements describe a Windows configuration. A Steam Deck installation also depends on the game’s build, its compatibility layer, graphics API, launcher behavior, text and interface scaling, input handling and performance in the actual build. None of those Deck-specific results is published in the cited listing.

The absence of a Deck badge also means there is no official store-page confirmation that the title’s menus, installer, display text or controls meet Valve’s Deck criteria. A GTX 1060 or RTX 2060 comparison cannot be converted into a guaranteed Deck outcome without testing.
Useful context for Deck owners, but not proof
Steam describes Deadhand Theater as a single-player, turn-based roguelike deckbuilder. Its design uses poker hands as weapons, collectible and upgradeable talismans, deck changes through cards and sigils, body-part sacrifices for tactical effects, and hexes and stage modifiers. The listing also includes a mouse-only control option.
Turn-based play may sound less demanding than a fast action game, but that description does not establish graphics performance, battery behavior, controller support or readable text on a Deck screen. A mouse-only option is not evidence that gamepad input works. These details are context for what to inspect if access becomes available, not a compatibility verdict.
How to check the status yourself
- Open the official Deadhand Theater store listing in Steam.
- Read the availability area. If it still says “This game is not yet available on Steam” and “Release Date: To be announced,” there is no released full game to install.
- Look for the playtest request. Submit it only if you understand that a request does not guarantee access and is not confirmation of a public demo.
- Check the system-requirements section again immediately before installing. Use the current minimum and recommended rows rather than an older cached set of numbers.
- On a Deck, inspect the compatibility badge on the same listing. “Unknown” means Valve has not assigned a current Verified, Playable or Unsupported result.
- If a build becomes available, check whether Steam identifies it as a demo or a playtest and note the build’s own update date. Do not assume that a later test build has the same requirements as an earlier one.
Preparing a Windows PC for a future build
A PC that matches the minimum row has the listed baseline, but the metadata does not promise a frame rate. A machine at or above the recommended row is the safer starting point for testing, although it still is not a performance guarantee.

- Use Windows 10, the operating system named on the listing.
- Verify the exact processor and graphics model rather than checking only a broad “Core i3” or “Core i5” label.
- Confirm that at least 8 GB of system memory is available to the game and the operating system.
- Make more than the listed 1 GB of free storage available so Steam can download, unpack and update files.
- Check the live page again after an update, because the older listing already demonstrates that these values can change.
If your computer falls below one listed item, the evidence does not support declaring the game impossible to run. It only means your configuration is below the developer’s stated target. Conversely, meeting every line does not prove smooth performance because no test conditions or frame-rate measurements are published.

Once an actual build is available, separate four questions that are often incorrectly treated as one:
Is it publicly downloadable?
Confirm whether the page offers a normal demo download or only a playtest request. A request page can remain visible even when access is restricted.

Does it launch?
Record whether the build starts from Steam, reaches its main menu and remains stable when a run begins. A successful launch is useful evidence, but it is not the same as verified long-session performance.

Do controls and text work on Deck?
Check menus, card selection, deck management, tooltips and any screens that require precise pointer movement. The listing’s mouse-only option makes this an especially important practical check; it does not answer the question in advance.
Is performance acceptable at the Deck’s native resolution?
Only measured testing can answer this. Note the build version, display settings, frame-rate behavior, battery impact and any stutter during transitions. No such measurements are published in the current listing, so none should be quoted as an established result.
What is known about the game itself
Deadhand Theater is presented as a dark, turn-based roguelike deckbuilder. Poker hands function as weapons.
