Deadlock system requirements and PC settings for higher FPS (2026 guide)

Deadlock does not yet have a complete official minimum or recommended PC specification. Steam currently lists only “Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system”; its operating-system, processor, graphics and sound-card fields remain unspecified for both tiers, and the release date is listed as to be announced. You can still make an informed compatibility decision and tune performance by measuring frame time in an actual match rather than relying on unofficial spec lists.

The settings guidance below reflects a performance guide updated October 6, 2026 and checked against the October 5, 2026 patch. Deadlock is still changing, so treat every hardware tier and setting recommendation as a starting point and retest after major updates.

What Deadlock officially requires

Valve has not published a full hardware baseline. The current Steam requirements page gives one official statement: “Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system.” The rest of the requirement fields are not populated.

Steam listing Current status What you can conclude
Operating system Not specified for minimum and recommended A 64-bit operating system is required; a supported Windows version is not specified on the page.
Processor Not specified for minimum and recommended A 64-bit processor is required; no model, generation or core count is official.
Graphics Not specified for minimum and recommended No official GPU model, VRAM amount or API requirement is published.
Sound card Not specified for minimum and recommended No official sound-hardware specification is listed.
Release date To be announced Requirements may change as development and optimization continue.

Lists that claim a specific processor or graphics card is the “minimum” should therefore be treated as community guidance, not Valve certification. The absence of an official target also means a PC that launches the game may still need settings changes to deliver a stable frame rate in a crowded fight.

Can your PC run Deadlock?

Use a practical test instead of a pass/fail label. Deadlock’s performance guide describes 16 GB of RAM as a comfortable baseline for a modern Source 2 game while Discord and a browser are open, and strongly recommends an SSD. Those are sensible operating targets, not published requirements.

Check the parts that matter most

  • Memory: 16 GB gives the game and ordinary background applications more room than an 8 GB system. If you have less, close browsers and overlays before testing; do not interpret 16 GB as an official minimum.
  • Storage: An SSD is recommended. A hard drive can mean longer loads and more noticeable in-game hitches, even when average FPS looks acceptable.
  • Graphics card: VRAM determines how comfortably you can keep textures high. The guide uses 6 GB or more as an example level at which Medium or High textures can usually be used with little frame-rate cost, but it is not a benchmark guarantee.
  • Processor: A fast GPU cannot fix a processor or engine bottleneck. If changing resolution or upscaling barely changes FPS, investigate CPU limitation before buying a graphics card.

Suggested starting hardware tiers

The following classes come from the current performance guidance. They are starting points, not measured FPS promises; cooling, drivers, resolution, map activity and background software all change results.

Use case Suggested starting point How to approach settings
High-end target RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT class Begin at your monitor’s native resolution, then tune shadows and effects while watching team-fight frame time.
Mid-range target RTX 3060 or RX 6600 class Use Quality upscaling if the GPU is limiting; keep textures as high as available VRAM allows.
Older laptop No specific model is guaranteed Use Low settings, Quality or Balanced upscaling and a 60 FPS cap as an initial profile.

Compare two PCs using sustained FPS during team fights, not an empty-lane peak. Also consider whether the limit is the GPU or CPU, available VRAM, frame-time consistency, input latency, storage load times, target resolution and total upgrade cost.

Set up an accurate FPS test

Deadlock can look smooth in a quiet lane and then stutter when several players trigger abilities. The in-game Telemetry HUD exposes the information needed to tune the actual bottleneck.

  1. Open Settings → Game → Telemetry and enable the telemetry display.
  2. Play or recreate the problem in a real match, preferably during a busy team fight. Do not judge performance from the practice area or an empty lane alone.
  3. Watch FPS and frame time while the fight is happening. A stable frame time is more useful than a brief high-FPS peak.
  4. Change one graphics option at a time, repeat a comparable fight and record whether the result improves.
  5. Keep the setting that improves consistency without making distant targets or effects too difficult to read.

This method matters because Deadlock is still being patched. The performance guide was checked against the October 5, 2026 patch, but a later update can move a workload from the GPU to the CPU or change the cost of an effect.

Best Deadlock settings for higher FPS

1. Preserve native resolution when possible

Start at your monitor’s native resolution for the clearest image. If telemetry shows the graphics card is the limit, enable FSR on Quality (available across GPU vendors) or DLSS on Quality (for supported NVIDIA RTX cards). Quality modes reduce the internal render cost while retaining more detail than an immediate resolution drop.

  • Processor specifications: Adopting AMD Ryzen 5 5600 processor, with a basic clock speed of 3.5GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.4GHz, it can achieve fast response computing performance
  • Graphics Card: Features GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card with 6GB dedicated video memory for gaming and multimedia applications
  • Memory configuration: Equipped with 32GB DDR4 RAM (16GB * 2), providing sufficient memory capacity for multitasking and demanding applications
  • Gaming Performance: Designed to handle modern gaming titles and graphics-intensive tasks with smooth frame rates and visual quality
  • Desktop System: Complete gaming desktop computer system ready for setup and use out of the box

Use Balanced only when Quality is not enough. Avoid Performance presets unless necessary: the lower internal resolution can make distant targets harder to read, which is a meaningful disadvantage in a competitive match.

2. Lower shadows

Set shadows to Low or Medium. Shadows are expensive and visually noisy during fights, so this is usually a better first sacrifice than reducing the entire image to a blurry resolution.

3. Reduce particles and effects

Set particles or effects to Low or Medium. Ability and spirit effects can become a major cost when several players act at once, exactly where a stable frame time matters most.

4. Disable ambient occlusion and keep anti-aliasing low

Turn Ambient Occlusion Off and set Anti-Aliasing to Low. These options generally offer less competitive value than retaining texture detail, while removing them reduces additional rendering work.

5. Keep textures as high as VRAM allows

Leave textures at Medium or High when your card has enough VRAM, rather than lowering them automatically. The guide’s practical example is 6 GB or more for usually running Medium or High with little FPS cost. If you see memory-related hitching or the game cannot maintain consistency, step textures down one level and retest.

6. Disable V-Sync and choose a stable cap

Turn V-Sync Off. If disabling it causes tearing, cap FPS a few frames below the monitor’s refresh rate. A cap the PC can hold continuously feels better than a fluctuating peak that collapses in a team fight.

Use exclusive fullscreen when practical for the lowest latency. If your system cannot sustain the cap, lower the cap rather than allowing large swings between high and low frame rates.

7. Enable latency and platform options

  • Turn on NVIDIA Reflex when the option is available.
  • Update the graphics driver before diagnosing a new performance problem.
  • Close browsers, recording tools and overlays while testing so their load does not obscure the game’s behavior.
  • On a laptop, select Windows High Performance power mode while plugged in.

Diagnose GPU, CPU and frame-time limits

When the GPU is limiting

If Quality upscaling or a lower render resolution produces a clear FPS improvement, the graphics card is doing most of the limiting. Keep native output resolution if possible, use FSR or DLSS Quality, then lower shadows and particles. This sequence protects readability better than immediately selecting a Performance preset.

When the CPU or engine is limiting

If switching from native resolution to Quality upscaling barely changes FPS, the graphics card may not be the main constraint. A processor or engine limit can dominate in a large fight, and buying a faster GPU will not necessarily solve it. Keep the clearer resolution, reduce CPU-heavy background activity and use a frame cap your processor can sustain.

When averages look fine but the game feels uneven

Use telemetry’s frame-time behavior rather than average FPS alone. A high average with repeated spikes is less useful than a lower, steady cap. Test the same type of fight after every change so you do not mistake a quieter moment for an improvement.

Fix stutter and FPS drops step by step

  1. Reproduce the drop: Enable telemetry and trigger the issue in a real team fight. Note whether the drop appears with many effects, after loading, or continuously.
  2. Apply the GPU profile: If resolution scaling helps, use FSR or DLSS Quality, shadows Low or Medium, particles Low or Medium, ambient occlusion Off and anti-aliasing Low.
  3. Stabilize output: Disable V-Sync, set a cap below your refresh rate if tearing appears, and choose a cap the system can maintain during the fight.
  4. Remove external interference: Close browsers and overlays, update the GPU driver and, on a plugged-in laptop, switch to Windows High Performance.
  5. Check storage and memory: An SSD is strongly preferred over a hard drive for shorter loads and fewer hitches. Aim for 16 GB of RAM as a comfortable modern Source 2 baseline, while recognizing that neither figure is an official Valve requirement.
  6. Repair after a patch or crash: Use Steam’s file-verification option, then retest the same scenario. A patch can alter performance, so do not assume an old settings profile still applies.
  7. Re-evaluate the bottleneck: If upscaling makes almost no difference, stop lowering image quality and investigate CPU or engine limitation instead.

Choosing an upgrade without promising an FPS gain

Upgrade only after telemetry identifies the constraint. A memory upgrade is most relevant when you are below the 16 GB practical baseline and background applications force the system to page. An SSD addresses hard-drive load times and hitches, not a guaranteed increase in average FPS. A graphics-card upgrade makes sense when resolution scaling and lower visual settings produce a measurable improvement and the GPU remains saturated; choose capacity that leaves enough VRAM for your intended texture level.

For any two-PC or upgrade comparison, record the target resolution, sustained team-fight FPS, frame-time consistency, input latency, GPU-versus-CPU limit, VRAM, storage behavior and total cost. Without a controlled test under the same patch and match conditions, no fixed FPS number is reliable.
