Death Stranding 2 Release Time: When It Launched and Early Access Explained

DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH has already launched on both platforms: PS5 on June 26, 2025, and PC on March 19, 2026. The PS5 Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Editions offered 48-hour early access starting June 24, 2025, but that launch benefit has expired; buying either edition now will not unlock the game early.

When did Death Stranding 2 release?

The dates above are past launch dates, not upcoming unlock times. For the PS5 launch, Sony did not publish an official full regional unlock map, according to a contemporaneous GameSpot regional timing guide. That guide reported a rolling midnight unlock based on the easternmost timezone in a region. In the US, it listed early access as June 23 at 9 p.m. PT / June 24 at midnight ET, and standard access as June 25 at 9 p.m. PT / June 26 at midnight ET. Those were secondary launch-week timings, not a current schedule.

Which PS5 editions included early access?

For the June 2025 PS5 launch, early access was included with the Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition. Both offered the full game and access 48 hours before the standard release. The Standard Edition did not include early access. The original PlayStation announcement and Kojima Productions announcement describe the launch editions and their contents.

• Digital Deluxe Edition: A digital edition of the game with the 48-hour launch access benefit.
• Collector’s Edition: Included a digital voucher for the game, not a physical disc, plus a Collector’s Box, 15-inch Magellan Man statue, 3-inch Dollman figurine, art cards and a letter from Hideo Kojima.
• Standard Edition: Did not provide the 48-hour early-access feature.

PlayStation’s US announcement listed historical launch prices of $69.99 for Digital Standard, $79.99 for Digital Deluxe and $229.99 for Collector’s Edition. Those are launch-period prices, not confirmation of current offers or resale prices.

Can you still get Death Stranding 2 early access?

No. The 48-hour head start was tied to the PS5 launch in June 2025. It cannot be activated now by purchasing a Digital Deluxe or Collector’s Edition after release. If you are shopping for the game today, choose the platform and format you want rather than paying extra for a launch window that has passed.

How can you play Death Stranding 2 now?

The game is available on PS5 and PC. The PC release launched through Steam and the Epic Games Store; the PC launch and input options are covered in PlayStation’s PC announcement. A PS5 physical edition was also announced, but current stock, merchant listings and prices can change, so check the seller’s present listing before buying.

Choose PS5 if

• You want to play on a PlayStation 5, using a digital or physical PS5 edition depending on current availability.
• You own a PS5 save or prefer to continue on that platform; saves do not transfer between PS5 and PC.

Choose PC if

• You want the Steam or Epic Games Store version and have enough storage. Nixxes recommended 150 GB of SSD capacity; its launch FAQ reported an install of about 115 GB on Steam, with additional voice-over languages increasing the size. These are launch-era figures and can change with updates and language selections.
• You prefer mouse and keyboard, or want to use a DualSense controller. PlayStation lists full mouse-and-keyboard support and DualSense integration; a DualSense controller is optional.

Do you need to play the first Death Stranding first?

No. Nixxes’ PC support FAQ says prior play of the first Death Stranding is not required because the sequel includes an in-game recap of key characters and events. It also says you can pause, including during cutscenes, to consult the Corpus. The FAQ notes that PS5 saves cannot be transferred to PC, or PC saves to PS5.
