Deck of Haunts System Requirements and Steam Deck Compatibility

Deck of Haunts is Steam Deck Verified. Its published minimum PC target is Windows 10, a 2.3 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM, 3 GB of VRAM and 2 GB of available storage. Steam also lists full controller support, so the game is designed to be playable with a gamepad on Valve’s handheld. However, Verified does not promise a particular frame rate, battery runtime or graphics preset for every Steam Deck model; Steam does not publish those figures for this game.

At a glance

Question Answer
Can it run on Steam Deck? Yes. Steam marks Deck of Haunts as Verified.
Minimum operating system Windows 10
Minimum processor 2.3 GHz
Minimum memory 8 GB RAM
Minimum graphics memory 3 GB VRAM
Minimum storage 2 GB available space
Controller support Full controller support; Steam also lists Xbox and PlayStation controller support
Release date May 7, 2025 on Steam

Those figures are the publisher’s stated minimums, not recommended specifications. They tell you the baseline configuration the Windows version expects, while the Verified badge is the most useful buying signal for a Steam Deck owner.

What Deck of Haunts is

Deck of Haunts is a single-player indie simulation and strategy game developed by Mantis. You play a malevolent haunted house rather than a conventional hero. The central loop is to construct and expand a mansion, manipulate visitors’ fears with haunt cards and special rooms, push them toward insanity, extract their essence and spend that essence to unlock additional rooms and powers.

That design matters when considering hardware. The game is built around planning a mansion, selecting cards and managing visitors over a sequence of encounters, so precise mouse aiming is not the only way to play. Steam’s listing includes full controller support and a mouse-only option, covering both handheld and desktop control preferences.

Published minimum PC requirements

Component Minimum requirement How to interpret it
Operating system Windows 10 The listed minimum for the Windows PC version.
Processor 2.3 GHz Steam gives a clock-speed floor but does not identify a specific CPU model or core count.
Memory 8 GB RAM System memory requirement for the published minimum configuration.
Graphics 3 GB VRAM Dedicated graphics-memory figure in the minimum specification; no GPU model is named.
Storage 2 GB available space Minimum free disk space stated on the Steam page.

Operating system

Windows 10 is the only operating system named in the published minimum specification. The requirement does not state a Windows edition, 32-bit or 64-bit mode, or a separate Linux desktop target. If you are building or checking a Windows installation, use Windows 10 as the documented floor rather than assuming that a much older Windows release is supported.

Processor

The requirement is expressed as a 2.3 GHz processor. Because no model, architecture or core count is supplied, clock speed alone cannot tell you how a particular CPU will perform. A processor that meets the number on paper may still differ in single-threaded speed, age and power limits. Treat 2.3 GHz as the stated minimum threshold, not as a performance guarantee.

RAM and VRAM

The minimum calls for 8 GB of system RAM and 3 GB of video RAM. RAM is shared by Windows, Steam and the game; VRAM is the graphics-memory figure listed for the GPU. Steam does not name a specific graphics card, integrated GPU, resolution or quality preset, so the numbers cannot be converted into a guaranteed frame rate without additional testing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Storage

Keep at least 2 GB free on the drive where Steam will install the game. That is the published requirement for the game files. Leaving additional working space is sensible for Steam’s download, unpacking and update process, but no larger official installation or update size is stated.

Steam Deck compatibility: what Verified means

Steam’s storefront marks Deck of Haunts as Verified, the strongest compatibility category shown for Steam Deck titles. The same listing reports full controller support, Steam Cloud and Steam Workshop, as well as a level editor and single-player play.

Verified is a compatibility assessment, not a benchmark. It indicates that the title passed Steam’s checks for the handheld experience, including its control and display expectations. It does not publish a guaranteed frame-rate target, battery-life figure, thermal result or graphics setting for each Steam Deck model. Those quantitative performance details are not established for this game, so a buyer should not infer a fixed 30 or 60 frames per second from the badge alone.

Controls and accessibility listed on Steam

  • Full controller support.
  • Support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers.
  • Adjustable difficulty.
  • Adjustable text size.
  • Subtitle options.
  • Camera-comfort settings.
  • Custom volume controls.
  • An option to play without quick-time events.
  • A mouse-only mode.

These options make the control scheme more flexible than a game that requires a keyboard and mouse. On Deck, you can use the built-in controls; at a desk, you can choose a supported external controller or mouse-driven play. The listing does not provide a complete per-setting description, so check the in-game menus for the exact names and available values after installation.

How to check and install it on Steam Deck

  1. Open the Steam Store on your Deck. Search for Deck of Haunts and open its store page.
  2. Confirm the compatibility label. The page should show the Verified Steam Deck status. This is the storefront’s current compatibility signal for the title.
  3. Check available storage. Make sure the target drive has at least 2 GB free, the amount listed in the PC requirements.
  4. Select Install. Choose the internal drive or an inserted microSD card with enough free space, then let Steam download and unpack the files.
  5. Launch from your Library. Open the game’s page in Game Mode and start it with the default controller layout.
  6. Adjust accessibility and controls. If text, camera movement, sound or event timing is uncomfortable, open the game’s settings and use the adjustable text size, subtitles, camera-comfort, volume and quick-time-event options listed by Steam.
  7. Use desktop controls when preferred. The mouse-only option can be useful in Desktop Mode or on a Windows PC if you prefer pointer input for mansion management and card selection.

The Verified label removes the need to begin with compatibility experiments such as community control profiles or unofficial translation layers. It still cannot tell you how long a charge will last or which visual preset is best for your particular hardware, so treat those as personal settings decisions rather than guaranteed specifications.

Windows PC and Steam Deck: what can be compared

Comparison point Windows PC Steam Deck
Compatibility evidence Steam publishes minimum requirements: Windows 10, 2.3 GHz CPU, 8 GB RAM, 3 GB VRAM and 2 GB storage. Steam storefront status is Verified.
Controls Mouse-only play is listed; supported Xbox and PlayStation controllers can also be used. Full controller support is listed for the handheld’s built-in controls.
Operating-system information Windows 10 is the documented minimum. Steam’s Verified status covers the supported handheld experience; the listing does not provide a separate Deck OS specification.
Storage information At least 2 GB available space. Reserve at least 2 GB on the selected internal or removable drive.
Graphics headroom The published floor is 3 GB VRAM; no GPU model or recommended tier is named. Verified confirms storefront compatibility, but no model-specific graphics preset or frame-rate target is published.
Performance data No official FPS benchmark is listed. No official FPS or battery-life figure is listed.

The practical distinction is therefore evidence, not a promise of superiority. A Windows buyer can compare a computer against the five stated minimums. A Deck buyer has a stronger go/no-go signal because the storefront has already assigned Verified status, but still needs to choose personal limits for frame rate, brightness and battery use.

What Steam does not specify

Several details readers often look for are absent from the published listing. There is no recommended PC configuration, named processor or graphics-card model, resolution target, graphics-preset table, frame-rate guarantee, battery-life estimate or performance breakdown by Steam Deck model. The minimum figures should not be rewritten as recommended settings, and the Verified badge should not be rewritten as a promise of a particular FPS number.

This distinction is especially important for older Windows machines and integrated graphics. The 3 GB VRAM line is a published minimum, but without a named GPU or test conditions it cannot establish that every device reporting 3 GB will deliver the same result. Likewise, a 2.3 GHz CPU can represent very different real-world performance depending on its generation and power envelope.

Best Value
Valve Steam Deck 1TB Upgraded Handheld Gaming Console with Carring case, 1280 x 800 OLED Display Silicone Soft Cover Protector & Joystic Cap & Tempered Glass Film Bundle
  • Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
  • Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

For changes after launch, consult the game’s Steam Community announcements. That page contains developer announcements, update notes and guidance for reporting bugs or crashes. If an update changes controls, adds accessibility options or addresses a launch problem, those announcements are the appropriate place to check the developer’s current instructions rather than relying on an old setup guide.

Troubleshooting checklist

The game will not install

  • Confirm that the selected drive has at least 2 GB free, the published minimum.
  • Restart Steam and retry the download if the client stops while reserving or unpacking space.
  • On Windows, verify that the computer is running Windows 10 or a newer supported Windows environment; the documented minimum is Windows 10.

The game launches but controls are wrong

  • Return to the Library page and confirm that Steam recognizes the title as Verified.
  • On Deck, start with the built-in controller layout and reconnect any external device before relaunching.
  • Use the game’s mouse-only option if pointer control is more reliable for your setup.

You encounter a crash or suspected bug

  1. Close and relaunch the game, then install any pending Steam update.
  2. Check the Steam Community announcements for a matching update note or developer workaround.
  3. Follow the reporting guidance posted by the developer, including the circumstances of the crash and the platform on which it occurred.

Is it a good Steam Deck purchase?

For compatibility, the answer is favorable: Deck of Haunts is officially Steam Deck Verified, supports the handheld’s controller-oriented play and includes several accessibility adjustments. Its small published storage requirement also makes installation straightforward on a Deck with limited free space.

The remaining uncertainty is performance detail. Steam does not publish a model-by-model FPS target, battery estimate or recommended graphics configuration. If those numbers determine your purchase, the available evidence cannot provide a definitive promise. If your decision is based on whether the game is recognized as playable on Deck with full controller support, the Verified label directly answers that question.
