You forage during dungeon runs, bring ingredients to camp, use the station that accepts them, and carry meals or potions into the next trip. Recipes provide timed stat effects, so food influences survival, stamina and movement rather than serving as decoration.
The key rules are station-specific: the Cooking Pot combines two or three ingredients, the Skillet accepts one or two, the Oven needs Coal, the Rotisserie can burn unattended food, and the Kettle needs water for potions. Recipes unlock when your character picks up at least one ingredient used by that recipe.

How the cooking loop works
Deep Dish Dungeon combines exploration, scavenging, campsite improvement and crafting into a repeating preparation loop. During an expedition, collect ingredients and other resources. Back at camp, place those ingredients into the appropriate station, wait for the recipe’s processing time, and store the resulting food or potion for a later run.

Steam’s description says that food is progress: recipes unlock over time and produce different stat effects. That makes cooking part of character progression. A meal can increase maximum health, maximum stamina, movement speed or other combat-relevant attributes for a limited duration, so the useful question is not simply “what can I cook?” but “which effect will help the next expedition, and can I make it reliably?”

The release-build recipe table groups production into Crafting, Workbench, Cooking Table, Cooking Pot, Skillet, Oven, Rotisserie, Kettle and Forge Anvil. The last three non-food stations matter for the wider crafting system, but the six cooking-focused stations determine how meals and potions are made.
Cooking stations and their rules
Each station has its own input pattern. Putting the correct ingredients into the wrong station either produces a different result or nothing at all.
| Station | Inputs and operating rule | Examples or requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Cooking Pot | Uses two or three ingredients. Every input must belong to one recipe’s ingredient list. Recipes are checked in a fixed order, and the first match is cooked. Each batch yields one dish. | Two Tomatoes make Tomato Soup; two Raw Meat make Meat Soup; Raw Meat plus a vegetable makes Stew; Noodles plus Raw Meat makes Ramen. |
| Skillet | Accepts one ingredient by itself or exactly two ingredients from one recipe list. Three ingredients produce nothing. | Use it for single-item cooking or two-item combined dishes. |
| Oven | Takes one item at a time and requires Coal. | Bakes prepared dough or pies and roasts single ingredients. |
| Rotisserie | Has three slots and roasts one item in each slot. | Food left too long burns, so remove finished items promptly. |
| Kettle | Requires water before brewing. | Used for Healing Potion, Immunity Potion, Refresh Potion and Stamina Potion. |
The Cooking Pot’s fixed recipe order is important when several combinations could appear valid. If a mixture matches an earlier recipe, the station makes that dish instead of letting you select a later interpretation. For predictable results, use the smallest ingredient combination that uniquely identifies the meal.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow recipes unlock
The main unlock rule is ingredient discovery. In a developer explanation recorded by NPC Tips on 7 March 2026, the rule was stated as: “Each player needs to grab one of the items in the recipe to unlock it.” In practical terms, picking up an ingredient unlocks recipes that use that ingredient, although some recipes also require a prerequisite item.
This is a discovery system rather than a menu that begins fully populated. If a recipe is missing, look for an ingredient you have never collected instead of repeatedly trying random combinations at camp. A recipe can remain unavailable until its required ingredient or prerequisite has been picked up.

Ingredients to collect and how to plan them
The documented cooking overview names apples, meat, mushrooms, corn, cassava, tomatoes, beans and cilantro among the ingredients. Named dishes include Shepherd’s Pie, meat and mushroom stew, ramen, pastel and cassava fritters. Herbs and other ingredients can modify an existing dish where the recipe permits them.

A recipe that calls for “any vegetable” or “any protein” can accept an eligible item from that category, and raw or cooked forms may qualify where the recipe specifies that flexibility. This has two planning consequences:
- Keep a range of vegetables and proteins rather than hoarding one exact ingredient.
- Read the recipe’s category requirement before spending a rare item; a common substitute may preserve the rare ingredient for another dish.
Ingredient planning is therefore about flexibility as much as quantity. A small stock of adaptable vegetables and proteins can cover more recipes than a large stock of one item that only appears in a single dish.

The following examples are documented combinations from the release-build table. They illustrate the station logic rather than representing every recipe in the game.

The release-build table contains 142 recipes across its crafting menu and stations. That is a database count from NPC Tips’ release-build data, checked 15 October 2026, not a publisher marketing statistic. CapyDB reports 65 food and drink entries in a Steam-demo import (build 1013, last imported 10 October 2026). The two figures describe different data sets and should not be added together or treated as interchangeable.
Cooking times, fuel and freshness
Crafting, Workbench and Cooking Table recipes take three seconds in the release-build data. Cooking stations use recipe-specific times, so a short preparation is not a universal rule.
| Recipe | Cooking time | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Tomato Soup | 45 seconds | Release-build table |
| Corn Bread | 60 seconds | Release-build table |
| Deep Dish Pizza | 180 seconds | Release-build table |
| Cooked Meat | 40 seconds | Release-build table |
| Grilled Steak | 40 seconds | Release-build table |
The Oven also consumes Coal, so fuel belongs in the expedition checklist whenever you plan to bake or roast there. The Rotisserie has three slots, but its throughput comes with a failure risk: food left too long burns.
The demo cooking loop included spoilage and baskets that keep food fresh longer. Those preservation details are build-sensitive. Treat them as demo behavior rather than a guaranteed rule for every full-release patch, and remove Rotisserie food when it is done regardless of which build you are playing.
Food buffs and choosing a meal
Official descriptions establish that meals affect stats and bolster strength, but exact values below come from CapyDB’s Steam-demo file import, not an official balance statement. The numbers are therefore useful examples of scale, not a promise that every full-release value is identical.

Use four questions when selecting food for a run:
- What is available? A powerful recipe is not useful if its ingredients are too scarce to replace.
- Which station and fuel does it need? Oven recipes consume Coal; Kettle recipes need water.
- How long can you wait? A 180-second preparation may be sensible before a planned expedition but inconvenient during a quick restock.
- What does the route demand? Health supports attrition, stamina supports repeated actions, movement speed helps repositioning, and other effects may suit a specific ability or combat plan.
For a long dungeon run, duration can matter as much as the size of the bonus. A shorter, easy-to-replace meal may cover a brief outing, while a 30-minute dish such as the documented Apple Pie example is better aligned with an extended expedition if its ingredients and station are available.
A reliable camp-to-dungeon preparation routine
- Review the next expedition. Decide whether you need health, stamina, movement or a potion effect before spending ingredients.
- Check your recipe unlocks. If a desired recipe is locked, plan a pickup expedition for one of its ingredients. In co-op, each player should collect the item personally.
- Sort ingredients by category. Separate vegetables, proteins, noodles, fruit and other components so flexible substitutions remain visible.
- Confirm the station. Use the Cooking Pot for two- or three-item recipes, the Skillet for one or two items, the Oven for Coal-fired baking or roasting, the Rotisserie for three single-item slots, and the Kettle for water-based potions.
- Measure the batch against the timer. Start long recipes before other camp tasks, and do not assume every station finishes in three seconds.
- Watch active stations. Remove Rotisserie food as soon as it is done to avoid burning. Account for demo-specific spoilage if that build includes it.
- Equip or store the result. Carry the meal or potion into the expedition where its timed effect can be used, rather than consuming it early while still organizing camp.
Common mistakes and fixes
Adding three ingredients to the Skillet
The Skillet accepts one ingredient or exactly two ingredients from a single recipe list. Three ingredients make nothing. Remove the extra item and try the one- or two-item combination shown by the recipe.
Getting an unexpected Cooking Pot dish
The Pot checks recipes in a fixed order and cooks the first match. If your combination has multiple possible interpretations, use a more specific pair or remove an ingredient that is not required for the intended recipe.
Trying to use the Oven without Coal
The Oven requires Coal for each baking or roasting operation. Gather fuel before starting an Oven batch; otherwise the recipe cannot proceed even when the food item is ready.
Leaving food on the Rotisserie
Each of the three slots roasts one item, but finished food can burn if it remains too long. Treat the Rotisserie as an attended station and collect each item immediately.

Assuming a teammate unlocked your recipe
Recipe discovery is recorded per player in the documented co-op rule. Pick up the relevant ingredient yourself rather than relying on another player’s unlock.
Reading demo values as final balance
CapyDB’s 65-entry count and its Apple, Bean Soup and Apple Pie buffs come from a Steam-demo import. NPC Tips’ 142-recipe count and cooking times come from release-build data. Keep those boundaries in mind when a current game update differs from an older table.
Release and database boundaries
Steam lists the full game release as 13 October 2026. NPC Tips’ recipe table is based on release build 25955406 and was checked 15 October 2026. CapyDB’s counts and buff values come from demo build 1013, last imported 10 October 2026. NiaMeowDB explicitly warns that its page is not a complete full-game recipe database.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
These dates explain why recipe totals, ingredient lists and stat values may disagree between pages. Use the release-build table for station behavior and timing where available, and treat demo-derived counts or buffs as historical reference points until confirmed against the build you are playing.
Practical takeaway for expedition planning
Start by unlocking recipes through deliberate ingredient pickups, then build a small, flexible pantry of vegetables and proteins. Match each recipe to its station, reserve Coal for Oven work, keep water available for Kettle potions, and supervise the Rotisserie. Finally, choose food by the combination of effect, duration, preparation time, availability and spoilage risk rather than by the headline bonus alone.
