The Deildegast is identified by EMF Level 5, Ghost Writing, and D.O.T.S. Projector. Its defining hunt mechanic is a speed counter tied to distinct objects that players move or use between hunts: it starts at 3.0 m/s, drops by 0.1 m/s for each qualifying object, and can reach 0.4 m/s after 26 objects. The counter resets after every hunt or hunt attempt, and the ghost never gains speed from line of sight.
The mechanics and percentages in this guide are the version-specific figures reported for Phasmophobia v0.19.0.2, verified September 26, 2026, by fan references. Treat them as subject to change in later patches.

What the Deildegast is
The Deildegast is a ghost in Phasmophobia themed around misplaced objects. Its journal description presents a strength at the beginning of an investigation and a weakness that allows both living and dead players to slow it. In practical terms, the ghost begins a hunt at full speed unless players have handled qualifying objects since the previous hunt or reset.

The name is associated with Norwegian folklore about a spirit condemned to replace boundary stones it moved during life. That folklore connection is useful thematic context, but it has not been confirmed by Kinetic Games as the specific design explanation for the in-game mechanics.

- Dripping horror text inspired by paranormal themes for spooky seasonal appeal
- Bold high-contrast lettering that stands out on dark backgrounds at night events
- 16” x 16” bag with two 14” long and 1” wide black cotton webbing strap handles.
- Made of a lightweight, spun polyester canvas-like fabric.
- All seams and stress points are double-stitched for durability, and the reinforced bottom flattens to fit more items and hold larger objects.
Kinetic Games announced the Deildegast as a new ghost in a Steam update. The announcement gave it an increased contract appearance chance for the first few weeks after release; that was a temporary launch boost and should not be treated as a current probability advantage.
What evidence does the Deildegast leave?
A Deildegast’s three evidence types are:
- EMF Level 5
- Ghost Writing
- D.O.T.S. Projector
Use the journal to mark each confirmed evidence type, but do not rely on evidence alone when a contract has hidden evidence, custom difficulty settings, or an observation that appears inconsistent. Its hunt behavior provides the strongest secondary test.
Deildegast hunt mechanics
The following figures are the mechanics reported for v0.19.0.2 by versioned fan references. They describe game values, not player-population statistics.
| Mechanic | Reported value | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Hunt sanity threshold | 50% average sanity | Expect a normal hunt check once the team average is at or below this level, subject to the contract’s settings and other hunt rules. |
| Starting hunt speed | 3.0 m/s | This applies when no qualifying object has been counted since the previous hunt or reset. |
| Object reduction | 0.1 m/s per distinct qualifying object | Each different qualifying object moved or used by a player outside a hunt lowers the next hunt’s speed. |
| Minimum speed | 0.4 m/s | The reduction stops at this floor after 26 qualifying distinct objects. |
| Line-of-sight acceleration | None | The Deildegast does not build speed while it can see a player. |
| Counter reset | After a hunt or hunt attempt | It also resets when a Crucifix burns, according to the versioned guide. |
The object count is based on distinct objects, not the number of times an interaction is repeated. Using the same light switch repeatedly does not provide a new 0.1 m/s reduction. Interactions must occur between hunts; touching an object during an active hunt does not create a mid-hunt slowdown.

Worked speed examples
| Distinct qualifying objects since reset | Expected starting speed |
|---|---|
| 0 | 3.0 m/s |
| 9 | 2.1 m/s |
| 13 | 1.7 m/s |
| 26 or more | 0.4 m/s minimum |
These values describe the speed at the start of the next hunt. Once a hunt ends, the counter returns to its starting state, so the same object-handling routine has to be repeated before a later hunt.
Which objects count?
The versioned mechanics reference lists four useful categories of qualifying interactions:
- Throwable objects
- Light switches
- The fuse box
- Faucets
Doors, investigation equipment, and cursed possessions do not count toward the Deildegast’s distinct-object reduction. A qualifying interaction must involve a different object; repeating the same object does not add another increment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDead players can still perform qualifying interactions for this purpose. That makes the journal’s “living and dead players” weakness unusually literal: a teammate who has died can continue contributing to the next hunt’s slowdown if the game allows that interaction in the current situation.

How to identify a Deildegast step by step
- Collect the evidence available in the contract. Check for EMF Level 5, Ghost Writing, and D.O.T.S. Projector. Record which evidence is confirmed and which is excluded by the difficulty settings.
- Lower sanity until a hunt is plausible. The reported threshold is a 50% average sanity check. Do not intentionally create a dangerous situation without an escape plan, especially on small maps or with inexperienced teammates.
- Prepare a controlled object test. Between hunts, move or use several different qualifying objects. Count each distinct throwable, switch, faucet, or fuse-box interaction only once.
- Start with a known count. Around 15 different objects is the practical test suggested by the guide. A count near that level should produce a noticeably slower hunt than an untouched 3.0 m/s start, although exact observations can vary with version and listening conditions.
- Listen during the next hunt. Compare the footsteps with an earlier hunt or with a speed you can identify confidently. A substantial slowdown after distinct object handling supports Deildegast.
- Check the reset. After the hunt or a failed hunt attempt, repeat the object routine. If the ghost is a Deildegast, the next hunt should again begin from the unmodified 3.0 m/s state unless new qualifying interactions have been counted.
- Watch line of sight. The Deildegast should not accelerate simply because it sees a player. If its speed builds during a sustained visual chase, that observation rules against a Deildegast under the cited mechanics.
- Confirm with evidence and repeated behavior. One noisy hallway, a sprinting teammate, or a poor audio comparison can mislead you. Use the evidence combination and at least one repeatable speed change before committing the identification.
How to run the speed test safely
Use a route with escape options
Do not test in an open room with no hiding places. Pick a section where you know the nearest safe route, keep electronics and dropped equipment from creating confusion, and make sure every player knows whether the test is observational or a deliberate hunt trigger.
Count objects before the hunt, not during it
Arrange the test between hunts. For example, use several separate light switches, turn on different faucets, move distinct throwable props, and interact with the fuse box if it is safe to do so. The counter is not a live debuff that accumulates while the ghost is already chasing someone.
Compare consistent audio conditions
Footstep distance, room geometry, doors, and teammates can make a ghost sound faster or slower than it is. Use the same listening position where possible, and compare the Deildegast’s next hunt with a hunt before any object interactions. The guide’s approximately 15-object test is a practical target, not a replacement for evidence.

| Candidate | What changes its speed | Difference from a Deildegast |
|---|---|---|
| Deildegast | Distinct qualifying objects handled between hunts; no line-of-sight acceleration | Speed resets after a hunt or hunt attempt and can drop to 0.4 m/s after 26 qualifying objects. |
| Revenant | Whether it has detected a player | Its speed is tied to detection, not to a count of different objects. |
| Deogen | Distance to a player | It changes speed as the distance to its target changes, rather than using the Deildegast’s object counter. |
| Young Thaye | Its age and the progression of the investigation | It slows as it ages; that change is not reset by each Deildegast-style object test. |
The comparison is strongest when paired with evidence. Do not call a Revenant, Deogen, or young Thaye solely because the first hunt sounded quick, and do not call a Deildegast solely because a later hunt was slow.

Doors and light switches
The versioned guide reports a 10% interaction chance for doors and light switches, compared with 25% for a standard ghost. This is a fan-guide figure verified for the cited version, so use it as a tendency rather than an absolute rule. A Deildegast can still interact with these objects.
Object interaction success
The same reference reports an 85% success rate when the ghost attempts to interact with an object. On a failed attempt, it returns to its favorite-room state. This can make an interaction pattern look less active than expected and is another reason not to base an identification on a single event.
“Doors starting open” custom difficulty
When the “Doors starting open” custom difficulty option is used, the guide says its effect is effectively reduced by one level for a Deildegast. Treat this as a version-specific interaction with the custom setting, not as a universal change to every contract.

Favorite-room relevance
The preferred room can matter when an object interaction fails, because the ghost returns to that state according to the cited mechanics. If an interaction appears to fizzle without producing the behavior you expected, track the ghost’s room rather than assuming the test has disproved it.
Using the weakness to survive
If the evidence points to a Deildegast, the safest exploitation is procedural rather than improvisational:
- Before each planned hunt, handle different qualifying objects to reduce the upcoming starting speed.
- Spread the interactions across players when practical; dead teammates’ qualifying interactions can count as well.
- Remember that the benefit disappears after the hunt or a hunt attempt, so repeat the routine rather than assuming the ghost remains slow.
- Do not expect the slowdown to stop a hunt already in progress. It changes the next hunt’s starting speed.
- Keep a route and hiding plan even after reaching a low calculated speed. The 0.4 m/s figure is a reported minimum, not a guarantee that every chase is harmless.
A useful team callout is “counted objects since reset.” One player can maintain the count while others collect evidence, preventing accidental double-counting of the same switch or prop.

Version and source limitations
The detailed figures in this guide come from fan references that state verification against Phasmophobia v0.19.0.2 on September 26, 2026. They are not presented as a permanent developer specification. A future patch may change the threshold, speed values, object list, interaction percentages, reset conditions, or custom-difficulty behavior.
Kinetic Games’ roadmap for 2026 discussed quality-of-life work, a planned October Unity 6 upgrade, the July 21, 2026 Willow Street rework, and a move of Phasmophobia 1.0 and the next map to 2027. Those roadmap statements provide release context but do not establish or override any Deildegast mechanic.
