1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf Delta Force crashes on your Steam Deck, there is no verified universal fix: the game is listed as Unsupported for Steam Deck and SteamOS, and the available compatibility reports do not establish that a particular Proton setting resolves crashes on current builds. Try Steam’s reversible troubleshooting steps below, but treat each as a test rather than a guaranteed fix.
What the compatibility status means
SteamDB’s Delta Force record lists Windows as the supported system and Steam Deck/SteamOS as Unsupported. SteamDB says the record was last updated October 7, 2026, but the compatibility test itself is dated December 20, 2024. The record is a status snapshot, not a test of every later game build or individual Deck setup. View the SteamDB compatibility record.

Valve explains that the Deck Verified categories reflect how well a game works on Deck, and that compatibility can change as games and system software change. Check the game’s current compatibility information on its Steam Store page rather than treating an older test as a guarantee. Valve’s Deck Verified overview.
A Delta Force developer wrote in a Steam Discussions support thread that Linux and Steam Deck were not supported at that time. The game’s December 5, 2024 FAQ likewise said it did not support either platform. Those are historical statements, not proof of the game’s present status on their own; together with the compatibility listing, however, they do not support calling any user-reported workaround an official fix. Try these troubleshooting steps in order
Make one change at a time and retry the game. That makes it easier to see whether a step changed the failure, without mistaking a general Steam Deck maintenance step for a title-specific fix.
- Note where it fails. Record whether the launcher opens and closes, the game exits immediately, it crashes during a match, Steam shows “Running” without a game window, or an error appears. Also note your Deck model, SteamOS version, game build, and selected Proton version. These details help support staff distinguish different failures.
- Update SteamOS and restart. Install available system updates, then restart the Deck and try again.
- Close third-party Desktop Mode applications. Temporarily exit or disable apps you installed through Desktop Mode, then retest. Valve lists updates, restarting, and disabling third-party desktop applications among its general steps for app instability. Steam Support: general troubleshooting for games.
- Check compatibility details. Look at the game’s current Steam Deck compatibility information before experimenting with settings. Valve’s Unsupported category means a game is not currently considered functional on Deck; it does not identify the cause of a particular crash.
- Test Proton only as an experiment. In Steam, open Delta Force’s Properties, then Compatibility, and test the latest Proton option if available. Change one setting at a time and record which version you tried and what happened. Steam Support recommends trying the latest Proton when appropriate, but no supplied evidence verifies a Proton version as a fix for current Delta Force crashes. Avoid relying on an old forum post’s Proton version as a current solution.
- Verify files only for installation-file errors. If the message is error 193 or explicitly says files are missing, use Steam’s game-file verification option. If the problem remains, the Delta Force FAQ recommends reinstalling for those errors. This advice is specific to error 193 or missing-file problems; it is not established as a fix for every crash. Delta Force FAQ, dated December 5, 2024.
- Send the details to support if it still fails. Include the crash point, exact error text, Deck model, SteamOS version, game build, and Proton selection when contacting Steam Support or Delta Force support. The reports available for this title do not establish a universal current Deck fix.
Why a reported Proton fix may not apply
Compatibility reports can describe different devices, game builds, and failure points. For example, a dated Proton issue describes a Linux desktop case in which the launcher opened but starting the game crashed or left Steam showing it as running. That report does not verify a fix for a current Steam Deck installation. Proton issue #7964.

If testing a suggested setting, treat it as a reversible experiment and keep track of the result rather than assuming it will work on your setup. Steam Community support discussions.
