The Demon Prince is the mandatory boss at the end of The Dreg Heap in Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City. The fight starts against two demons, and the one you kill last determines which signature attack the Prince uses in phase two: meteors or a laser. The listed reward is the Soul of the Demon Prince.
Where to find the Demon Prince
The boss is at the end of The Dreg Heap. From the Earthen Peak Ruins bonfire, proceed to the hole in front of it and drop down to reach the arena. The encounter is part of The Ringed City DLC and is mandatory within that content. The paired demons are exclusive to the DLC. How the fight works
Phase one: Demon from Below and Demon in Pain
You begin facing both demons, each with its own health bar. Demon from Below starts empowered and attacks first; Demon in Pain becomes empowered shortly afterward. Their active and exhausted periods alternate, creating opportunities to attack the less aggressive demon while watching the other.
Expect claw combinations, delayed overhead attacks, toxic attacks, and fire-related transitions. Track both enemies rather than focusing only on the one you are attacking. When the last demon dies, it rises in a fire shockwave as the Demon Prince, so create distance as the transition begins.

Phase two: your kill order chooses the variant
The demon left alive until last determines the Prince’s signature phase-two move:

This gives you control over which signature attack you face, but the reference does not establish that either variant is universally easier. Choose based on which attack you are more comfortable responding to.

Damage, status effects, and preparation
The Wikidot reference lists the Demon Prince’s fire absorption at 78%, so fire damage is a poor default choice for this encounter. It also reports that demon enemies take 20% bonus damage from the Black Knight Sword, Black Knight Greatsword, Black Knight Greataxe, and Black Knight Glaive. These are reference values, not claims of firsthand testing.
- Consider: bleed, which the reference lists as effective against the boss.
- Avoid relying on: poison or frost, which the reference lists as immunities.
- For weapon selection: the named Black Knight weapons receive the listed demon damage bonus.
Summons
The reference lists Slave Knight Gael and Amnesiac Lapp as summon options near the bonfire. It does not establish quest prerequisites or other restrictions, so check the relevant summon signs and character availability in your game rather than assuming either sign will always appear.

Lore in the item descriptions
The Lorian’s Greatsword description connects Lorian to the demon prince: “Before Lorian embraced his brother’s curse, he was a knight who single-handedly slayed the demon prince, but the victory eternally scorched his sword with flame.”
The Soul of the Demon Prince description emphasizes the shared origin and dwindling flame of the demons: “The demons, birthed from a common Chaos, share almost everything between them, even the pride of their prince, and his near-faded flame. So that the last demon standing may rekindle it.”
