The current community skill table reports that five hard points unlock a second demon and ten unlock a third; gear-based +skills do not raise those summon-cap breakpoints. The skill also increases several combat stats as its level rises.
What Demonic Mastery does
Demonic Mastery is a passive Warlock skill that enhances summoned and bound demons. Its listed prerequisite is Summon Goatman; the independent skill page also lists it as a tier-one skill with a maximum level of 20.

Blizzard’s Reign of the Warlock overview describes the Demon tree as letting the Warlock summon Goatmen, Tainted, and Defilers, and says the Warlock can bind demons encountered in battle or consume an enslaved demon. Blizzard’s overview does not name Demonic Mastery or provide its numerical effects, so the detailed figures below are those reported by the community-maintained skill table.
When does Demonic Mastery add another demon?
The current Japanese community table gives these capacity breakpoints:

| Hard points in Demonic Mastery | Maximum demons |
|---|---|
| 1–4 | 1 |
| 5–9 | 2 |
| 10 or more | 3 |
Only points allocated directly to Demonic Mastery count toward these capacity thresholds. A displayed skill level increased by equipment does not substitute for the five or ten hard points required to raise the demon limit. The table reports no additional summon slots above level 10 and a maximum capacity of three.
This is different from the skill’s other bonuses, which the table reports by skill level. For example, gear can raise the displayed level for those listed bonuses, but it does not count as hard-point investment for the demon cap.

What bonuses does the skill provide?
The community table lists attack rating, attack speed, damage, and run/walk speed bonuses. At skill level 20, it reports:
- 500 attack rating
- 24% attack speed
- 200% damage
- 33% run/walk speed
The table says attack speed reaches a 25% cap at levels 21–25. Its patch 3.2 note says the attack-speed bonus changed from item IAS to skill IAS and is capped at 25%. These values are community-reference figures, not numerical stats published in Blizzard’s overview. An independent skill page confirms the skill’s identity and prerequisite but currently says formula data is unavailable.

How many points should you spend?
The capacity milestones make five and ten hard points useful reference points for builds deciding how many demons they want. The community table recommends levels 1, 5, or 10 as common capacity-focused stopping points; it says further investment may make sense when Goatmen or bound demons are a primary damage source. That is the wiki’s build assessment, not a universally established optimal allocation.
- Choose the target capacity: one demon, two at five hard points, or three at ten.
- Weigh the opportunity cost: points above ten do not increase the listed capacity, but the table continues to show improved combat bonuses as skill level rises.
- Consider your build’s use of demons: the value of additional bonuses depends on whether summoned or bound demons are central to your damage plan and what other Warlock skills could use those points.
The community table also states that Consume’s buff occupies a demon-cap slot. Blizzard’s overview does not describe that interaction, so treat it as a community-reported mechanic rather than an official confirmation.
Rank #4
- The Diablo Prime Evil Collection includes Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo III, the Reaper of Souls expansion which includes Act V, Adventure Mode and the Crusader class, and the Rise of the Necromancer pack, with the Necromancer class, and additional cosmetic items. This collection also includes the Mephisto pet and the fearsome wings, Hatred’s Grasp, for Diablo III.
Why older guides may show different breakpoints
The skill table’s patch history shows a change in patch 3.2. Before that patch, it listed two demons at level 10 and three at level 20. Its current post-3.2 table instead lists two at level 5 and three at level 10, with hard-point investment required for the capacity increases. For the current reported thresholds, use the post-3.2 values rather than the older breakpoints.

How to access the Warlock
Blizzard says existing Diablo II: Resurrected owners can purchase the Reign of the Warlock expansion, while new players can buy the Infernal Edition, which includes the base game and expansion. Blizzard also states that Xbox Game Pass includes the base game but not Reign of the Warlock. Edition contents, regional availability, and storefront details can change; consult Blizzard’s official expansion page for current access information.
