The expansion followed a difficult year at the original location, where the co-owners told GeekWire that the shop had faced a burglary, an armed hold-up and other damage.
What happened at Pink Gorilla’s International District store?
In a January 2023 report, GeekWire said Pink Gorilla’s co-owners described several security incidents at the International District shop in 2022. They reported a $14,000 burglary in July, an armed hold-up in October and other incidents, including broken windows. The owners characterized 2022 as worse for crime at that store than the previous 17 years; that is their account of the shop’s experience, not a measure of crime across Seattle. The incidents led the owners to consider leaving the neighborhood. Instead, they kept the International District store and opened another location on Capitol Hill. Co-owner Cody Spencer told GeekWire, “We’ve been in the International District for 17 years. If we leave, that place is kind of doomed. It’s just a spiral. Another business leaves, then another and another.” He also pointed to employee retention and community efforts to improve the area.
Why did Pink Gorilla add a Capitol Hill store?
Foot traffic was central to the choice, Spencer said. He linked the volume of people passing through Capitol Hill to the store’s ability to maintain its stated low prices, while noting that a more rural location might require higher prices. The article did not include price comparisons, so this is the owners’ explanation of their strategy rather than an independently measured pricing advantage.

GeekWire reported that the new shop at 613 E. Pike St. had opened on January 1, 2023, and described it then as a 1,400-square-foot venue and Pink Gorilla’s third Seattle location. Those details refer to the opening-period report and do not establish the shop’s present size.
Did Pink Gorilla leave the International District?
No. The Capitol Hill opening was an addition, not a relocation. Pink Gorilla’s current official site lists Seattle stores in the University District, Capitol Hill and the International District, as well as a separate Las Vegas store. That means the three-location count applies to Seattle, not necessarily to the company overall.

Hours vary by location and can change, so check Pink Gorilla’s official site before visiting. The available sources do not establish the stores’ current security conditions or whether later incidents occurred.

Online and in-store inventory are separate, according to the official site. A website listing therefore does not confirm that an item is available at a particular Seattle shop; check with the store if you are making a trip for a specific game or product.
