If either interaction is unavailable, Bungie Help has shared a player-reported workaround: finish the Outer Steppes Strangelet quest, including its turn-in and cutscene.
Open the sealed door in Augur’s Bethel
The door is protected by a generator shield. Find and shoot all three blue power cores to overload it; two are exposed with Mattermorph, while the first is in the open.

- Find the first core. Look beneath the bridge near the generator and shoot the blue core.
- Locate the Mattermorph mound. Go to the upper platforms along the pipes, in the direction of the laser-grid doors.
- Expose the second core. Use Mattermorph on the mound, then find the core inside the green-lit pipe near the laser-grid doors and shoot it.
- Expose the final core. On the main level, look for a flashing green metal sheet near the subway train portal. Use Mattermorph to remove it, then shoot the core behind it.
- Open the door. When the HUD reports “Generator overloaded,” return to the sealed door, become Matterspark, and shock the generator.
Scan the remains, then activate the shrine
Once through the door, trigger the quest marker and let the opening Ikora and Ghost dialogue finish. Scan the remains first. Wait for the next dialogue to finish, then activate the shrine at the back of the room.
The objectives may be triggerable in a different order, but GameSpot’s walkthrough reports sequence-breaking problems when players do that. Following the scan-then-shrine order is the safer route.

Deliver the artifact to finish the quest
After investigating the shrine, take the artifact to Dean Rebecca in the Caldera and deliver it to complete Dark Academia. The quest is an Ikora Rey side quest in Kepler’s Augur’s Bethel area. GameSpot describes its rewards as a gear drop and lore concerning Orin and the Nine.

A Bungie Help responder said Bungie was aware of an interaction problem and relayed that some players had restored the Dark Academia interactions by completing the Outer Steppes Strangelet quest first. The reported workaround included finishing the quest, turning in the Strangelet, and watching the cutscene. It is not a confirmed fix for every player, and the current status of the issue is not established by the available Bungie help information.

If you try this route, complete the Strangelet quest and its turn-in and cutscene, then return to Dark Academia and check the remains and shrine prompts again. Bungie Help’s advice was based on player reports, not a guarantee.
