What Bungie said would happen to disabled items
In its October 10, 2024 This Week in Destiny article, Bungie said some items and perks might be disabled during the dungeon race. Players could still equip them, but their effects would not work inside the dungeon during the restriction period.

Bungie said it would post the final list no later than an hour before launch and directed players to Destiny 2 Team and Bungie Help for updates. The article itself did not enumerate the final list, so it is not evidence that any particular item beyond those confirmed separately was disabled.
Shadowshot was specifically disabled
A Bungie Help forum response dated October 13, 2024 states that Shadowshot was disabled from the dungeon because it was likely to cause Guitar errors. A second Bungie Help response on October 14 said it would remain disabled until fixed because it caused teams to be kicked from the activity with a Guitar error.

This confirms Shadowshot as a Vesper’s Host restriction, but not as the entire race list. The current Disabled Items support page shows current status, not an archived record of every restriction from the October 2024 race. The complete historical list and the end date for each restriction are not established by these sources.
When the race took place and how Contest Mode worked
Vesper’s Host launched on October 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Bungie planned Contest Mode to run for 48 hours, with Normal Mode becoming available after the first three teams cleared the dungeon. The launch article recommended 1985 Power to remain at the cap through all encounters.
The official race rules define the competition and its completion conditions:
- Each competing fireteam had to consist of three players and start Vesper’s Host in Contest Mode.
- The first three fireteams to complete the dungeon were the race winners.
- A team’s finish was recorded when it looted the final chest.
- At least one team member had to have completed and received loot for every encounter, while the activity had to be a first completion for every member of the fireteam.
Race prizes were historical
The rules offered each winning fireteam’s three members a customized Vesper’s Host Activewear Hoodie and bracelet, with an approximate retail value of $145 per winner. Bungie’s launch article also listed May 6, 2025, as the deadline to earn the hoodie, bracelet, and collectible dungeon pin through Bungie Rewards. Those were time-limited, historical offers; the cited information does not establish current availability.
