It offers a new story in an alternate Destiny timeline—not a numbered sequel to, or replacement for, Destiny 2.
What is Destiny: Rising?
Destiny: Rising is a mobile entry in the Destiny universe developed and published by NetEase Games under license from Bungie. NetEase announced the game on October 14, 2024, describing it as a free-to-play sci-fi RPG shooter with playable heroes, a shared world, and multiple game modes. NetEase’s announcement and the official game site identify NetEase as the developer and publisher and Bungie as the licensor.
That makes “Destiny’s next big step” a useful description of the franchise’s move onto mobile, not an official claim that Rising is Destiny 3 or takes the place of Destiny 2.
Is Destiny: Rising available now?
Yes. NetEase announced worldwide iOS and Android availability beginning August 28, 2025. As checked on October 8, 2026, the official site lists the game as available now and links to the App Store, Google Play, and a PC emulator option. Store eligibility can vary by region, and the sources do not establish availability in every country or provide a complete device-requirements list; check the relevant store listing for your location and phone.

What is the story setting?
The game takes place in an alternate Destiny timeline, in the period after the Dark Age. The publisher’s premise follows humanity rebuilding after civilization’s collapse, with Lightbearers and the Iron Lords confronting alien threats. This is the story setup presented by NetEase, rather than evidence that Rising continues the mainline Destiny 2 plot.

These are publisher-described features; they are not independent findings about how the game performs or feels in play. NetEase said selected newer mobile devices support 60 frames per second, with 90 frames per second on select devices. Those frame-rate claims do not apply to every supported phone.
Can you play Destiny: Rising with a controller?
The official description supports both touchscreen controls and play with a compatible controller. It does not name a controller model or establish that every controller works with every phone. If you plan to use one, check compatibility with both your device and the game before buying; otherwise, touchscreen play is an available control option.

Is Destiny: Rising connected to Destiny 2?
Rising uses the Destiny universe under Bungie’s license, but its alternate-timeline story is presented as a new adventure rather than a direct continuation of Destiny 2. NetEase’s launch announcement also described a Destiny 2 emblem promotion tied to completing the “Bear the Light” event in Destiny: Rising. That announcement does not establish whether the event or reward can still be claimed.

NetEase first announced the game on October 14, 2024. A May 2025 post discussed iOS pre-registration and a closed beta scheduled for May 29 in the United States and Canada; those were pre-launch details, not current access instructions. Worldwide iOS and Android availability began August 28, 2025. The official site checked October 8, 2026 lists the game as available and includes patch notes dated October 7, 2026.
