The announcement says the game was released in May 2018. The 15 million figure is the publisher’s total as of its announcement date; it is not a current October 2026 count. Units sold also should not be treated as the number of distinct people who played the game.

Quantic Dream’s earlier updates trace the game’s reported lifetime sales milestones. These are successive figures from the publisher, not an independently audited sales series.

The 2025 update is available on Quantic Dream’s blog, and the 2020 and 2023 figures appear in the studio’s company history.
What Quantic Dream said about the milestone
David Cage, Quantic Dream’s president and writer/director, said in the January announcement: “More than seven years after its release, Detroit: Become Human continues to resonate with audiences, bringing always more players together around the world.” He also described it as “a shared journey for tens of millions of players.” That phrase is Cage’s characterization, not a separate player-count statistic; the release reports units sold.

Guillaume de Fondaumière, the company’s CEO and head of publishing, called the milestone evidence of the game’s “emotional resonance and lasting cultural impact.” That is his assessment, rather than an independently measured finding.

Quantic Dream has not provided a reason for the increase from its previous reported milestone of more than 11 million before 2025 began. The announcement does not attribute the growth to discounts, a platform change, word of mouth, streaming, or another specific factor. It also offers no revenue figure or sales breakdown by platform.
