The verified scores do support a partial order of specific releases and platform listings, but they are not interchangeable franchise-wide ratings. Scores below are critic Metascores, not user scores, and were checked on October 8, 2026.
Verified Devil May Cry Metascores, lowest to highest
This is a partial ranking of the Metacritic listings for which the available records establish a numeric critic score. A listing can represent a particular platform or edition; it should not be read as a definitive score for every version of that game. Where the evidence does not identify a platform, it is marked as not stated rather than inferred.

Why this is not a complete series ranking
The first two games lack verified individual scores here
The available evidence does not establish numeric Metascores for the original Devil May Cry or Devil May Cry 2. Metacritic describes Devil May Cry HD Collection as bundling those games with Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition. A collection-level score belongs to that package; it cannot stand in for three separate game scores.
#1 Best Overall
- Featuring Dante, Devil May Cry HD Collection is full of the award-winning gameplay and style that the series has become known for, now playable on modern consoles.
- Originally debuting in 2001, Devil May Cry immediately redefined the action genre, with its signature emphasis on slaying demons with style.
- The half-demon Dante uses his innate abilities and the powers of ancient demons to fight a one-man war against the forces of darkness and save humanity from damnation
- Devil May Cry 2 released in 2003 and centers on Dante and his new devilishly agile partner Lucia in their fight to defeat a man hell-bent on achieving supreme power.
- Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, featured a number of enhancements, including the opportunity to play as Dante's twin brother, Vergil, as well as the addition of Bloody Palace Mode and Turbo Mode.Battery: no battery used
Devil May Cry 5’s score is not established by the cited record
The returned Devil May Cry 5 listing shows 64 critic reviews, but the available record does not provide a numeric score. The review count alone cannot determine its rank. Capcom’s 2019 announcement named Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC as platforms at that time; that historical announcement is not a current availability statement. Capcom later announced that Devil May Cry 5 sales had topped 10 million units in 2025, a sales milestone rather than evidence of its Metacritic position.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why platform and edition matter
Metascores attach to particular listings, not automatically to a game in every form. The clearest example here is Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition: its cited PC page scores 66/100 from eight critic reviews, while its Nintendo Switch page scores 82/100 from 34. Treating either number as the universal score for the edition would conceal a substantial difference between the platform pages.
Rank #2
- 3 Great games remastered in High Definition for optimum playback
- Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition
- Adventure horror game from Capcom
- Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening special Edition is Dante's Awakening, featuring a number of enhancements, including the opportunity to play as Dante's twin brother, Vergil,
The same care applies to numbered and special editions. The cited Devil May Cry 4 listing is 84/100 from 63 reviews, while the separate Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition page is 76/100 from 31. Those scores describe distinct listings and should not be merged into a single franchise ranking.

How to read this ranking
- Use critic Metascore: the table ranks critic scores, not user ratings.
- Keep the listing attached to the number: platform, release and edition distinctions can change the score and review count.
- Do not fill missing entries with a compilation score: a package containing multiple games is not an individual-game result.
- Read the order as partial: without verified numeric scores for the original, Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 5, their positions relative to the listed entries remain unresolved.
