To get the free pet in Diablo IV, complete the in-game pet quest: it awards Asheara, a canine companion. The practical route reported by players is to visit Kyovashad, interact with the Well Behaved Dog, then equip Asheara through the Wardrobe. Pets pick up gold and materials; they are not described as combat companions.
How to unlock the free pet
-
Log in to Diablo IV and check your quest log for the pet unlock quest. Blizzard said the quest is granted in-game to all players, and completing it awards Asheara the Canine Pet.

Youtooz - Diablo IV: Inarius Plush (9in)- Inarius has descended from the Temple of Firstborn to return to Youtooz in brilliant plush form!
If you do not see the quest, check the Wardrobe’s Pets section first. Players on Blizzard’s forum have reported that a pet may already be unlocked for their account; this is community guidance, not a guarantee about how every account will appear.
What pets do in Diablo IV
Blizzard describes pets as helping with gold and material pickup: “Aiding with Gold and Material pick-up, Pets will serve as your trusty sidekick throughout the dangerous world of Sanctuary.” The official description establishes a loot-pickup function, not a combat role.

Other pet rewards and how to interpret them
Asheara’s quest is the straightforward free route. Diablo IV has also offered other pet cosmetics through expansion editions, seasonal progression, a Battle Pass, and the shop. Those offers differ in cost and availability, and past promotions should not be treated as current unlocks.
| Route | Examples | Availability context |
|---|---|---|
| In-game quest | Asheara the Canine Pet | Free; Blizzard said the pet quest is granted in-game to all players. |
| Expansion edition bonuses | Alkor the Snow Leopard, Hratli the Canine, and Natalya the Tiger | Listed in Blizzard’s June 9, 2024 Vessel of Hatred announcement. The pet feature must first be unlocked in-game to use these pets. The announcement does not establish that a particular edition currently includes them. |
| Seasonal journey | Dante the Dog (Season 9); Dorian the Raven (Season of Witchcraft) | Historical seasonal rewards. Blizzard listed Dante for Chapter 6 of Season 9 in its July 1, 2025 Season 9 announcement and Dorian for completing the Season of Witchcraft journey in its January 2025 Season of Witchcraft announcement. Those notices do not show that the rewards can still be earned. |
| Battle Pass or shop | Scapegoat Pet; Azul Prestige Pet Bundle | Blizzard’s July 1, 2025 Season 9 article listed Scapegoat in the Deluxe Battle Pass bundle and Azul in Tejal’s shop for 2,500 Platinum at that time. This is a historical offer and price, not confirmation of current stock or pricing. |
| Current seasonal Reliquary | Bear Pet | Blizzard’s Season of Hell’s Legacy page search excerpt mentions a Bear Pet in the Beasts Reliquary. The precise unlock conditions and availability window are not established here; check the in-game Reliquary for current details. |
Can pets fight enemies?
The official pet description says pets help pick up gold and materials. It does not identify combat abilities, attacks, or gameplay differences between pets, so choose among them as cosmetics rather than assuming one has stronger combat effects.
