In the Diablo 4 cellar event with three rows of exploding symbol tiles, step on the tile showing the symbol for the current row, then evade away before it detonates. Repeat for all three rows; finishing the sequence reveals a chest. First check that this is the symbol-tile puzzle, since not every cellar event uses these mechanics.
How to solve the three-row symbol puzzle
- Read the symbols. Find the three symbols displayed for the puzzle and identify the matching tile in the current row.
- Step on the matching tile. The tile will trigger an explosion. Do not stay on it.
- Evade immediately. Move clear of the blast. The step counts when you avoid being caught in the explosion.
- Repeat for the remaining rows. Complete the displayed sequence across all three rows to finish the event and reveal the chest, as described by PC Gamer’s cellar puzzle guide.

What if the puzzle resets or does not complete?
You were caught in an explosion
A player reply in a Blizzard forum discussion says taking damage resets the puzzle. If the sequence resets, begin again and evade clear of each explosion rather than staying on the selected tile: Blizzard forum discussion about the glyph puzzle.

A pet or mercenary appears to trigger a plate
One player report from March 2026 alleges that a pet or mercenary activated plates in this puzzle. That is an individual report, not confirmation of a universal or ongoing bug. If a plate seems to trigger unexpectedly, watch whether a companion is near it and try another attempt without one nearby: Blizzard forum player report.

The cellar itself may have a different issue
This solution applies to the three-row exploding symbol-tile event, not every cellar encounter. Blizzard’s Diablo IV 2.0 patch notes list a fix for the Sunbaked Overlook Cellar being impossible to complete. That specific historical fix does not establish that the rune puzzle is generally bugged: Blizzard’s Diablo IV 2.0 patch notes.
