The Paladin is playable in Diablo IV, but access to the class is tied to purchasing an eligible Age of Hatred expansion bundle. The separate Path of the Paladin class quest is available to all players, including those who do not own an expansion; completing that quest does not, by itself, grant access to play the Paladin.
What kind of class is the Paladin?
Blizzard describes the Paladin as a melee class that combines weighty attacks with divine abilities. Its announcement emphasizes hammer-and-shield combat, while a Blizzard-authored Xbox Wire overview calls it a “sword and board” class.

That overview names Blessed Hammer, Blessed Shield, Condemn, Zeal, and Heaven’s Fury as examples of Paladin abilities. It is not a complete skill list, and names or mechanics may change in later updates. Read the Xbox Wire Paladin overview.
How do you unlock the Paladin in Diablo 4?
Blizzard says Paladin access is included with purchasing an Age of Hatred expansion bundle. The publisher’s announcement identifies Paladin Early Access and Vessel of Hatred among the benefits of the Lord of Hatred edition. Can you do the Paladin quest without owning an expansion?
Yes. Blizzard says the Path of the Paladin class quest is available to all players and classes regardless of expansion ownership. This is quest access, not Paladin class access: the quest’s availability does not mean a player without the required expansion bundle can create or play a Paladin. Blizzard’s announcement explains the distinction.

What changed in Diablo 4’s skill trees?
Blizzard’s expansion overview reports more than 40 reworked choices, 80 additional options, and up to 83 available Skill Points. These are figures for the game-wide skill-tree update, not counts of Paladin skills or Paladin-only options. The Diablo IV Team’s launch overview provides the update context.

A single “best” build is not established by the available official class and expansion announcements. Skill balance, gear, and rankings are patch-sensitive, so an up-to-date build recommendation should identify the patch and the activity it is meant for—such as leveling, general play, or endgame—rather than presenting one setup as universally strongest.
