Possibly in broad performance terms, but there is no verified evidence that either console will match a specific high-end PC graphics card. A September 2026 report attributes estimates of 40 TFLOPS for PS6 and 56 TFLOPS for Microsoft’s next Xbox, Project Helix, to leaker Kepler_L2. Those are unconfirmed figures, not official specifications or game benchmarks.
What is confirmed about the next Xbox—and what is not known about PS6
Microsoft has officially announced Project Helix as its next-generation Xbox. The company says the console is built around a custom AMD system-on-chip through a multi-year partnership and is designed to play both Xbox console and PC games. Microsoft has not published a final GPU specification in the cited announcement.
Microsoft says developer alpha hardware is planned to begin shipping in 2027. That is a development timeline, not a retail release date. The company also describes its ray-tracing goal as an “order of magnitude leap in ray tracing performance and capability”; this is a vendor claim, not an independently measured result. Xbox Wire’s March 11, 2026 announcement quotes Microsoft vice president Jason Ronald: “Project Helix is designed to play your Xbox console and PC games, delivering leading performance and ushering in the next generation of console gaming.” Read Microsoft’s Project Helix announcement.
The sources cited here do not establish an official Sony PS6 GPU specification, architecture, or performance target. Neither console has an independently tested game benchmark in the cited reporting.

What the 40-TFLOPS and 56-TFLOPS rumors claim
TechSpot reported on September 24, 2026 that leaker Kepler_L2 claimed the graphics chips for PS6 and Project Helix had been taped out and could theoretically reach 40 and 56 TFLOPS, respectively. TechRadar reported the same tipster and figures that day. Tape-out and performance figures remain attributed leak claims; Sony and Microsoft have not confirmed them as console specifications.
| System or comparison | Reported figure or claim | Status |
|---|---|---|
| PS6 GPU | 40 TFLOPS, attributed to Kepler_L2 | Unverified estimate reported by TechSpot on September 24, 2026; not an official specification. |
| Project Helix GPU | 56 TFLOPS, attributed to Kepler_L2 | Unverified estimate reported by TechSpot on September 24, 2026; not an official specification. |
| Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5080 | Suggested as possible performance comparisons in earlier reporting | Speculative comparison points from an August 2025 TechSpot report, not confirmed matches or benchmark results. |
On the leaked figures alone, Helix would have the higher theoretical TFLOPS number. That does not establish that it will run games faster than PS6, nor that either console will equal an RX 9070 XT or RTX 5080. The 2025 PC-card comparison predates the newer reported estimates and remains speculation. TechSpot’s earlier report on the PC GPU comparison.

Why TFLOPS cannot identify an equivalent PC graphics card
TFLOPS describes theoretical floating-point throughput under particular assumptions; it is not a direct measure of frame rate or visual quality. A figure from one GPU architecture cannot be translated cleanly into an equivalent figure from another architecture. TechSpot specifically cautions that the alleged PS6 figure is not directly comparable with GPUs based on different architectures. TechSpot’s report on the leaked TFLOPS estimates.
Real game performance also depends on factors that the reported numbers do not disclose, including clock speeds, memory capacity and bandwidth, CPU resources, ray-tracing hardware, AI-based upscaling, power and thermal limits, and how developers optimize for each platform. A console’s integrated design and software can affect results, so a headline throughput number cannot substitute for testing games on finished hardware.

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
A credible console-to-PC comparison would need independently tested retail hardware and comparable games, resolution, graphics settings, and performance targets. Until those exist, naming a matching card or ranking PS6 against Helix from TFLOPS alone goes beyond the available evidence.
Quick Recap
What to watch for as the rumors develop
- Official specifications: Sony’s published PS6 details and Microsoft’s final Project Helix hardware specifications would replace anonymous or attributed estimates with confirmed information.
- Comparable hardware details: Architecture, clocks, memory and bandwidth, CPU resources, and power limits would help explain what the throughput claims might mean.
- Independent game testing: Benchmarks on finished systems, using the same games and matched settings, are needed to judge real performance against PC GPUs.
