If your Diablo 4 Season 15 quest stopped progressing, first update to Diablo IV version 3.2.3, Build #73883, or newer. That patch prevents a bug triggered by using a Splinter of a Prime Evil before the Seasonal questline is complete. It does not repair characters already caught by the bug. For those characters, Blizzard’s confirmed recovery is to create a new character in the same partition, finish the Seasonal questline, and then use the resulting Prime Evil Powers on every character in that partition.
What is actually blocking Season 15 progression?
The documented Season 15 blocker occurs when a character uses a Splinter of a Prime Evil before completing the Seasonal questline. That premature use can leave the questline unable to finish and prevent access to Prime Evil Powers. This is a quest-state problem, not an objective that becomes easier by repeating the same activity.

Blizzard addressed the trigger in the October 14, 2026 Diablo IV patch notes for version 3.2.3, Build #73883. The change stops new characters from entering this broken state, but it does not rewrite quest progress that was already recorded incorrectly. A character that was affected before the update therefore needs the separate recovery path described below.

Use the symptom and the character’s history to choose the right path. The distinction matters because patching is enough for an unaffected character, while an already-bugged character requires a new character in the matching partition.

Step 1: install the preventative fix
- Close Diablo IV completely rather than leaving it suspended in the background.
- Open the platform client or console game library that manages your installation and check for an available Diablo IV update.
- Install version 3.2.3, Build #73883, or any later build. The exact screen used to display the build depends on your platform, so rely on the version information shown by your installed client.
- Launch the game again after the update finishes. Do not assume that downloading a partial patch or restarting only the game executable installed the complete build.
- Before using any Splinter of a Prime Evil, confirm that the Seasonal questline is complete on the character you intend to play.
This update prevents the known trigger from creating additional affected characters. It is still worth installing even if you plan to use the recovery route, because the replacement character should begin on the corrected code.
Step 2: determine whether your character is already affected
The key question is chronological: did the character use a Splinter of a Prime Evil before the Seasonal questline was complete? If yes, treat the character as potentially affected even if the quest tracker still displays an ordinary objective. Blizzard’s note specifically says that the patch does not reset quest progress on characters that are already bugged.
Do not spend hours repeating the same event, dungeon, or collection objective in the hope that a hidden counter will eventually move. Repetition cannot undo the premature Splinter use recorded on the affected character, and no official reset command is described in the patch note.

Step 3: recover access to Prime Evil Powers with a new character
Blizzard’s workaround is a progression transfer through the Seasonal questline, not a repair of the original character. Follow these steps in order.

- Note the affected character’s partition. Match both relevant settings: Normal versus Hardcore, and Normal versus Solo Self-Found (SSF). Blizzard describes this as creating the replacement in the same partition, specifically “Normal/Hardcore and Normal/SSF.”
- Create a new Season 15 character with the same partition settings. A character in a different mode or SSF status is not the documented match.
- Play through the complete Seasonal questline on that new character. Continue until the questline is fully complete rather than stopping when the first related reward appears.
- Return to the affected character and check Prime Evil Powers. Blizzard says that completing the Seasonal questline on the same-partition replacement unlocks Prime Evil Powers for every character in that partition.
The original character does not become a normally progressing quest character through this process; the benefit is that the partition-wide power unlock becomes available. You can then continue using the characters that matter to you without waiting for a quest-reset tool that Blizzard has not announced.
How to match the partition correctly
Partition identity is more than simply choosing the Season 15 option. Match the character’s regular or Hardcore status and its regular or SSF status. If the affected character is a Normal, non-SSF character, create the replacement with those same settings. If it is Hardcore or SSF, preserve that choice as well. When in doubt, write down the character-creation settings before making the replacement so you do not complete the questline in the wrong partition.
What should happen after completion?
The expected result is an unlock of Prime Evil Powers for all characters in that matching partition. The workaround is not described as moving the new character’s gear, level, or individual quest flags to the old character. Its purpose is to open the power system at the partition level.

Why updating alone does not fix an old stuck character
Version 3.2.3 changes the conditions that can trigger the bug. It does not retroactively reconstruct a quest history in which a Splinter was used too early. Blizzard states this directly: “This change prevents this bug from happening but does not reset quest progress on characters who are already bugged.”

That explains the common report of a quest remaining stuck after a successful patch installation. The update is working as a prevention measure; the old character still contains the earlier state. A contemporaneous GamesRadar report dated October 15, 2026 likewise described the patch as fixing the blocker without resetting affected progress.
Checks for symptoms that do not match the Splinter bug
Not every stalled-looking quest is proven to be the Season 15 progression bug. If the character never used a Splinter before completing the Seasonal questline, or the problem appears only after a connection failure, use these low-risk checks before assuming the quest data is permanently damaged.
Restart the game and the session
Exit to the platform level, close the game, and start a fresh session. This can clear a temporary client or party-state mismatch, but it is not an official reset for the documented Splinter bug.
Verify the intended Seasonal character
Confirm that you are looking at the Season 15 character and not an Eternal character or a different seasonal character. Check the character name, mode, and SSF status before abandoning an objective or creating a replacement.

Retry without a party if the state appears inconsistent
If the quest advanced for one player but not another, leave the party temporarily and attempt the objective alone. Treat this as a diagnostic check only. Blizzard’s confirmed recovery for the Splinter-triggered state remains the same-partition new-character route.
Record reproducible details
For a Blizzard Support report, record the exact quest step, the objective text, platform, character mode, SSF status, current build, and whether a Splinter of a Prime Evil was used before the Seasonal questline ended. Include what happened immediately after the objective was completed and whether the issue occurs in solo play. These details distinguish a known trigger from an unverified symptom.

Season 15 also had a separate login delay on September 15, 2026, followed by a hotfix. A service incident can prevent a character from loading or make progression appear unavailable, but it is not evidence that the Splinter quest bug affected that character.
Check Blizzard’s current service notices when the problem is login failure, repeated authentication errors, or a sudden inability to reach seasonal characters. If the notice describes an active incident, wait for the service to recover and then test again. If you can log in normally and the character used a Splinter too early, the documented progression workaround is the more relevant path.

Common mistakes that waste time
- Assuming the newest patch repairs every old save. Build 3.2.3 prevents new occurrences; it does not reset an already-bugged character.
- Continuing to farm the same objective. Repeating content does not remove the premature Splinter state.
- Creating the replacement in the wrong partition. The workaround requires the same Normal or Hardcore and Normal or SSF settings.
- Stopping the replacement character before the Seasonal questline is complete. The partition-wide unlock is tied to completion of the full Seasonal questline.
- Using another Splinter to test the quest. Until the Seasonal questline is complete, avoid actions that reproduce the documented trigger.
- Blaming hardware or accessories. A controller, physical game copy, or PC-cleanup utility does not perform the quest-state workaround. The recovery is an in-game character and partition procedure.
- Assuming every delay is an outage. The September 15 login incident was separate from the Splinter progression bug.
A practical decision checklist
- Is the installed game on Diablo IV 3.2.3 Build #73883 or newer?
- Did the character use a Splinter of a Prime Evil before the Seasonal questline was complete?
- What are the character’s exact partition settings: Normal or Hardcore, and Normal or SSF?
- If the trigger occurred, have you created a new Season 15 character with both settings matched?
- Has that replacement completed the entire Seasonal questline?
- After completion, have you checked Prime Evil Powers on the other characters in that partition?
- If the trigger did not occur, have you ruled out a current login or service incident?
- Have you collected the quest step, platform, build, mode, SSF status, and reproduction details for Support?
What the official evidence establishes
The strongest evidence is Blizzard’s October 14, 2026 patch note for 3.2.3, Build #73883. It identifies premature Splinter use as the trigger, states that the patch prevents new occurrences, and gives the same-partition new-character completion route for affected players. Blizzard’s September 15 service notice documents a separate login delay and subsequent hotfix. The October 15 GamesRadar report independently described the same limitation: already-bugged characters still need the workaround.
No published statistic establishes how many Season 15 characters were affected, and no universal quest-reset procedure is documented. That is why the steps above separate the confirmed recovery from general diagnostic checks.
Short answer for the two most common questions
“My quest is stuck after using a Splinter of a Prime Evil. What do I do?”
Install 3.2.3 Build #73883 or later, then create a new Season 15 character in the same Normal or Hardcore and Normal or SSF partition. Complete the Seasonal questline on that character to unlock Prime Evil Powers for every character in the partition.

No. The patch blocks the trigger going forward; Blizzard does not describe it as resetting quest progress already damaged by the bug. Use the same-partition new-character workaround instead.
