Choose Dicevaders if you want tactical grid placement, an alien-force build, and dice you can manipulate to set up combos. Choose Dicey Dungeons for a character-and-equipment-focused alternative, or Dice A Million if escalating score runs and shop upgrades are the draw. There is no universal winner here: the best fit depends on what you want your dice to do.

Why choose Dicevaders?
Dicevaders is the clearest fit if you want to make tactical decisions on a grid and shape a run around an alien force. Its official Steam description presents it as a dice-based roguelike deckbuilder set in the StarVaders universe: acquire units and artifacts, place invaders to improve scoring, and manipulate dice to create combinations. The game’s description sums up that emphasis with: “Dice aren’t a game of chance here, they’re your most powerful tool.” Dicevaders on Steam
That mix makes the dice feel like part of the tactical build, not simply a result to accept. The useful question is whether you enjoy arranging pieces and engineering combinations. If you would rather focus on characters and equipment or on a rising score-and-shop loop, one of the alternatives may suit you better.
Its announced scope
In its September 29, 2026 launch announcement, the developer said Dicevaders includes 10 commanders, more than 60 units, 120 artifacts, more than 30 constellations, six difficulty levels, a multiverse campaign, 13 additional challenge modes, and daily challenges. What the Steam rating tells you
Steam showed Dicevaders at 94% positive from 288 user reviews when retrieved on October 4, 2026. That is a dated Steam snapshot, not an independent quality rating; both the review count and ratio can change. Dicevaders on Steam
When Dicey Dungeons makes more sense
Dicey Dungeons is a strong alternative if you want an established, single-player dice roguelike with a character-based framing. Terry Cavanagh developed and published it; it released on Steam on August 13, 2019. So choose it over Dicevaders when the character-and-equipment angle is more appealing than building a force through grid placements. If the deciding factor is exactly how rolls work or how equipment interacts with them, consult the game’s current listing and materials rather than relying on an unsupported mechanical comparison.
When Dice A Million is the better fit
Consider Dice A Million if you are more interested in escalating score runs than tactical grid placement. PC Gamer’s March 4, 2026 overview describes a loop involving dice, cards, rings, increasingly difficult bosses, and rising shop prices. This makes Dice A Million the adjacent pick for players who want to chase compounding upgrades and see how far a score run can go. Pick Dicevaders instead if arranging placements and deliberately manipulating dice are the central appeal.
