The FTC’s Fortnite refund claim window is closed: the deadline was July 9, 2025, and the agency is not accepting new claims. The headline figure of $250 or more was never guaranteed. If you already filed, the FTC says some claims remained under review and additional payments were expected in 2026; check its official Fortnite refunds page for the latest status.
Can you still claim a Fortnite refund from the FTC?
No. The FTC deadline to submit a claim was July 9, 2025. The agency says it is not accepting new claims, so someone who did not file by the deadline cannot apply now through this settlement program. Who was eligible to apply?
The FTC’s historical eligibility rules covered people who met at least one of these circumstances:
- They were charged in-game currency for items they did not want between January 2017 and September 2022.
- Their child charged purchases to their credit card without their knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.
- Their Fortnite account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after they complained to their credit card company about wrongful charges.
The person filing had to be at least 18. A parent or guardian had to file on behalf of someone younger than 18. These criteria applied to the now-closed FTC program, not to ordinary refund requests made to Epic.

How much was the Fortnite refund?
There was no guaranteed $250 payment. The FTC says an approved payment depends on multiple factors, including how many people filed claims. The $250 figure in the headline is not an official fixed award, and the agency’s published payment totals do not establish what an individual claimant will receive. FTC payment information

When will people who already filed get paid?
According to the FTC’s program page, people who filed after February 14, 2025 do not need to take further action while their claims are reviewed. As of the page’s July 2025 update, the FTC expected additional payments in 2026 after reviewing and validating claims. That is an expectation, not a confirmed payment date; check the FTC program page for updates.
Payment method and acceptance deadlines
Claimants selected a payment type during the claim process. If approved, they receive that type. The FTC says to cash a mailed check within 90 days or accept a PayPal payment within 30 days. For questions, the FTC lists the refund administrator at 1-833-915-0880. FTC payment instructions

Is an ordinary Epic refund the same as the FTC settlement?
No. The FTC program distributes settlement refunds for eligible claims; it is separate from asking Epic to refund a particular purchase. Epic’s support center distinguishes Fortnite Item Shop purchases, purchases inside developer-made islands, Epic Games Store purchases, and Fab Marketplace purchases, and warns that not every purchase is refundable. For a current purchase dispute, use the relevant Epic Games support flow. For an already-filed settlement claim, use the FTC page.
How to avoid Fortnite refund scams
The FTC says it will never charge a fee to file a Fortnite refund claim. It also will not demand money, threaten you, tell you to transfer money, or promise you a prize. What the settlement covered
The FTC said Epic agreed to settle allegations that it unlawfully charged players for unwanted purchases, allowed children to make unauthorized charges without parental permission, and blocked some users who disputed wrongful charges from accessing purchased content. These are allegations described by the FTC, not a court finding. In its December 19, 2022 statement, Epic said: “Games should go above and beyond to make sure players even more clearly understand when they are making a purchase with real money or with virtual currencies to prevent accidental purchases.” Epic also said it introduced hold-to-purchase confirmation, instant cancellations, self-service refunds, and an updated chargeback policy at that time.
