What award was Dispatch competing for?
The headline refers to Players’ Voice, The Game Awards’ public-vote award. It is distinct from the ceremony’s main Game of the Year prize. The official Players’ Voice page describes the format as “3 Rounds, 3 Chances To Vote”: 30 nominees are narrowed to 10, then five, before a final vote selects the winner. The Game Awards’ Players’ Voice bracket identifies the award as 100% fan-voted.
Dispatch advanced to the final five alongside Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Reaching that round made it a Players’ Voice finalist; it does not mean it was a finalist for the main Game of the Year category.
Was Dispatch one vote away from winning?
There is no published tally establishing that. The official bracket does not show how many votes each game received or the margin between them, so “one vote away” should be read as headline framing, not a confirmed result. The page currently marks voting closed and names Wuthering Waves the Players’ Voice winner.
