The rumor began in 2024, when fans speculated that a console hidden under a black cloth in an image associated with Kojima and Death Stranding 2 might be Sony’s then-unannounced hardware. The cited reports identify no device and provide no confirmation from Kojima or Sony.
What started the PS5 Pro rumor?
In September 2024, coverage drew attention to an image showing a console covered from view in connection with Hideo Kojima and Death Stranding 2. Some fans wondered whether the concealed hardware might be a PS5 Pro. That was speculation about an obscured device, not a report that the console had been identified. ComicBook.com’s report framed the idea as a fan theory.

Was the covered console actually a PS5 Pro?
The available reports do not establish what the device was. A separate Push Square report called the PS5 Pro inference a reach and suggested a development kit as another possible explanation. That alternative is also unconfirmed.
- What was reported: A device was covered in the image.
- What fans speculated: It might be a PS5 Pro.
- What another explanation proposed: It might be a development kit.
- What remains unknown: The device’s identity and whether its covering meant anything.
Did Kojima deliberately tease a new console?
There is no confirmation in the cited coverage that Kojima deliberately teased a console, and neither report establishes that Sony identified the device as a PS5 Pro. The question mark in the original rumor is important: the claim rests on interpretation of a covered object, not on a statement from Kojima or Sony.

What does Death Stranding 2’s official announcement confirm?
Kojima Productions’ official announcement named Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, identified Kojima as a director, and said the game was arriving exclusively on PlayStation 5 in 2025. That announcement provides context for the image’s association with the game; it does not identify the covered hardware.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is this a new PS5 Pro sighting?
No. The reports at issue date to September 2024. They describe speculation about an image from that period, not a fresh sighting or confirmation in 2026. The most accurate description is an old fan theory about an unidentified, covered console.
