The headline appears to refer to MeepCity, but its reported shutdown has not been confirmed by a cited statement from the developers or Roblox. A September 4, 2025 report says the game closed after social features associated with inappropriate interactions among underage users were removed or restricted. It does not identify those features by name or establish that their removal caused the closure.
What happened to MeepCity?
A September 4, 2025 article by Indie Kings reported that MeepCity had closed following the removal or restriction of social features. The article characterized the features broadly as dating mechanics and private-chat options, but did not cite a developer announcement or Roblox status record to confirm the closure. Nor does it provide evidence establishing why the game closed. The shutdown and its proposed connection to feature changes should therefore be treated as reported claims, not verified facts. Indie Kings
Which features were removed?
The report does not give exact feature names, describe precisely what changed, or establish when any change took place. It is not possible from the cited account to say which specific mechanics were removed or restricted, or to independently verify that feature changes preceded a shutdown. Indie Kings
What did Roblox change about social hangouts?
Roblox announced a separate policy clarification on August 15, 2025. It said social hangout experiences that depict private spaces, or are primarily set in adult environments such as bars and clubs, would be restricted to users aged 17 or older who have verified their age with ID. Roblox said it would also use detection measures to identify violative scenes and take down servers with high levels of violative user behavior. These are platform-wide rules and enforcement measures; the announcement does not say they caused MeepCity to close. Roblox’s policy clarification

In that announcement, Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman wrote: “We’ve seen that Social Hangouts—experiences where the primary purpose is to chat with other users as the user or their avatar—can sometimes contain inappropriate user behavior when they include certain settings.”
Do Roblox’s later age-safety changes explain the report?
No. Roblox subsequently announced plans to expand age estimation for users of communication features, and in 2026 said Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts were available worldwide. These are broader platform measures; neither announcement confirms a MeepCity shutdown or links one to the game’s features.
