No. The accessory behind the 2024 speculation was Nintendo’s original Switch Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way), and its announcement did not confirm that Switch 2 would use magnetic Joy-Con. Switch 2 eventually launched with Joy-Con 2, which Nintendo says cannot be charged on the old stand.
Which accessory prompted the Switch 2 speculation?
Nintendo announced the Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) in July 2024 for the original Nintendo Switch Joy-Con. It can also charge Nintendo Entertainment System controllers. The stand was planned to become available on October 17, 2024, according to BGR’s July 18, 2024 report.
The timing looked unusual: Nintendo had said it would announce its successor to Switch within the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. BGR’s Jacob Siegal asked, “Why would Nintendo start selling an accessory for a console just months before the accessory becomes obsolete?” That was a reporter’s rhetorical question, not a statement from Nintendo about the stand’s purpose.
Did the stand confirm the magnetic Joy-Con leak?
No. The connection was an inference, not confirmation. BGR cited VGC editor Chris Scullion’s observation that contemporaneous reports suggested the successor’s Joy-Con might attach magnetically rather than use the original Switch’s rail. If the new controllers used a different attachment system, the original stand might still serve owners of older Joy-Con. But the stand’s announcement did not establish that design, nor that Nintendo created the accessory in response to the reported change.

Nintendo’s investor material later recorded that Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, after the company’s earlier commitment to announce the successor within the fiscal year ending March 2025. Does the original charging stand work with Switch 2 or Joy-Con 2?
Nintendo’s current compatibility guidance says the Two-Way Charging Stand is not compatible with Joy-Con 2. Original Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but that does not make the old charging stand suitable for the newer controllers. Nintendo lists the stand as an accessory for original Switch Joy-Con; check Nintendo’s compatibility guidance for the distinction.

How do you charge Joy-Con 2?
Nintendo lists a separate Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip for the newer controllers. Its UK accessory listing says Joy-Con 2 attach to the grip and charge through its USB-C port.
