Not in the sense of writing a new ending. Mass Effect Legendary Edition uses Mass Effect 3’s Extended Cut as its default finale. That version adds cinematic sequences, epilogue scenes and context compared with the game’s original launch ending, while keeping the core ending choices intact. The collection does not let you switch back to the original launch cut.
What changed between Mass Effect 3’s launch ending and Legendary Edition?
The key change is which version of the finale you get. Mass Effect 3 originally launched with a shorter ending. BioWare later released the Extended Cut, which expanded the ending’s scenes and aftermath. Legendary Edition includes that expanded version by default, rather than restoring the launch-day cut.

What does the Extended Cut add?
BioWare announced the Extended Cut on April 5, 2012, describing it as an expansion of the events at the end of Mass Effect 3, with additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes intended to give players more insight into how their journeys conclude. The stated aim was to provide more closure and clarity while maintaining the team’s artistic vision. BioWare’s announcement
In other words, it gives the finale more explanation and aftermath; it was not announced as a replacement plot with wholly different ending choices. So “Legendary Edition changes which version of the ending you see” is more precise than “Legendary Edition rewrote the ending.”

Do your choices or war preparation still affect the finale?
The trilogy’s core ending choices remain. What can differ is the state of your campaign going into the final fight. Legendary Edition changes Mass Effect 3’s Galaxy at War rules: Galactic Readiness is no longer raised through the original external multiplayer or companion app, and BioWare says reaching full preparation is harder than it was in ME3 with the earlier Extended Cut balance. - Carry your playthrough across the trilogy. BioWare identifies importing progress from Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 as the most reliable way to improve final-act results.
- Pay attention to setup decisions. Improvements to Mass Effect 2 reputation and dialogue checks can make important preparation moments more reliable.
These are changes to the conditions surrounding the finale, not evidence of a newly written ending.

Did the remaster fix the Mass Effect 3 ending?
That depends on what you mean by “fix.” Legendary Edition gives players the expanded Extended Cut rather than the short launch version, so it includes BioWare’s added context and epilogues. It does not introduce a separate, wholly rewritten finale or restore the original launch cut as an option. Whether the additional explanation resolves a player’s objections to the ending is a matter of preference, not a technical change the remaster can settle.

The collection’s broader remaster work affects how the trilogy looks and plays, but it should not be confused with a different ending. BioWare and EA describe visual improvements including higher-resolution textures, enhanced or rebuilt cinematics, and updated lighting and effects.
