The evidence does support a separate Book 4 disclosure about Ridoc, but that is not proof the collection confirms a theory.
What is Threshing Day?
Threshing Day is a collection of thirteen stories set in the Empyrean world. Yarros’s official page describes it as “Thirteen unforgettable stories. One Legendary Day.” Publishers Lunch reported that Yarros called the stories “thirteen threshing stories about some of your favorite characters and their dragons.”

The collection was released on September 29, 2026, according to USA Today’s July 16 report; Yarros’s site currently lists it as available. USA Today also reported that the deluxe first edition includes 16 original illustrations by Joe Requeza. Edition details and stock can vary, so check the listing for the copy you want.
Is it the next Fourth Wing book?
No. Threshing Day is supplementary fiction, not Book 4 of the main series. In the announcement reported by Publishers Lunch, Yarros said, “I hope this gives you a fun trip back to Basgiath while I’m writing book four!” That distinguishes the collection from the next main-series installment.
#1 Best Overall
Readers looking for the continuation after Onyx Storm should not treat the collection as that continuation. Its stated format is a set of threshing stories about characters and dragons, rather than the next numbered novel.
What did Yarros say about Ridoc?
A separate disclosure is being reported about Book 4. Brit + Co’s coverage of a New York Mets Fourth Wing Night Q&A quotes Yarros saying of Ridoc, “I can tell you that right now as I am writing book 4, he is still currently among us.” The report also says she was plotting Book 5 alongside Book 4.
This is an update about Ridoc’s status while Yarros was writing Book 4, attributed through event coverage. It is not reported as a passage from Threshing Day, nor does it name a fan theory that the collection settles.
What the “officially confirmed” claim establishes—and what it doesn’t
The reports about Threshing Day establish its format, release, and relationship to Book 4. The Q&A coverage supplies the Ridoc comment. None of those details identifies the supposed “major fan theory” or shows Yarros confirming it in the collection. Without a named theory and a statement or passage tied to it, the headline’s confirmation claim is not substantiated by these sources.
Rank #3
That does not prove no reader could interpret a story as supporting a theory. It means interpretation and an official confirmation are different claims: the latter needs an identifiable statement from Yarros or clear textual evidence, neither of which is established here.

- For more Empyrean-world stories: choose Threshing Day, the thirteen-story collection.
- For the next main-plot installment: wait for Book 4; Yarros described the collection as a trip back to Basgiath while she was writing that novel.
For release-calendar context, Yarros’s Coming Soon page lists Peculiar Stars for November 17, 2026, and Fourth Wing Graphic Novel: Vol. 1 for April 6, 2027. Those listings are separate from the question of whether Threshing Day confirms a theory.
