If your Wordle streak suddenly shows as zero or is shorter than expected, first open Wordle on the current NYT Games page and check that you are signed in to the correct New York Times account. A different account, a logged-out session, missing browser data, or an app-and-website mismatch can make a valid streak appear to have reset.
Do not start by clearing all browser data or changing your device’s date and time. Those steps can remove the only local copy of an unsigned-in streak or create additional inconsistencies.

Check the account before doing anything else
- Open Wordle through the NYT Games website or the NYT Games app.
- Sign in to the New York Times account that normally holds your Wordle progress.
- Wait for the puzzle to finish loading.
- Select the bar-graph statistics icon in the upper-right corner.
Compare the results with the streak you expected to see. Wordle stats can look like they were erased when the game is using a different NYT account. This is especially common if you play in the app but check your stats on the website, or if one session is logged out. Account synchronization works only when the supported devices and sessions use the same account.
Check the account on every place where you play: the NYT Games website, the NYT Games app, and any iPhone, Android, or desktop browser session. If one device shows the correct history and another does not, avoid playing more puzzles on the incorrect session until the account mismatch is resolved.

Why a Wordle streak can appear to reset
You played while logged out
When you play without signing in, progress may remain tied to that browser or device instead of being attached to your NYT account. Signing in later does not necessarily merge the locally stored results into the account automatically. This can make an old local streak and a newer account-based streak appear to compete with each other.
Before removing cookies or site data, return to the original browser and device if possible. If that was the only place an unsigned-in streak existed, its local data may be the only remaining copy.
The app and website use different accounts
A completed puzzle in the NYT app does not guarantee that the website will display the same statistics if the two sessions use different accounts. Sign out where necessary, then sign back in with one intended NYT account on both platforms.

Private browsing or blocked storage prevented synchronization
Incognito and private windows may discard the cookies or site data Wordle needs after the session ends. Ad blockers, privacy extensions, script blockers, and cookie restrictions can also interfere with reading or saving statistics.
For a diagnostic test, open Wordle in a normal browser window with extensions temporarily disabled for the site. If the statistics work there, browser storage or an extension is likely involved. A private-window test can also reveal whether the normal session has a cookie or cached-data problem, but private browsing is not a reliable place to maintain a streak.
NYT site data was cleared
Deleting cookies or website data can sign you out and remove locally stored Wordle statistics. If you were never signed in and the streak existed only in local browser storage, clearing that data may make it unrecoverable. This is why a full browser-data wipe should not be the first troubleshooting step.

A stale shortcut or cached session loaded
An old bookmark, shortcut, cached page, or legacy Wordle entry point can load an inconsistent session. Reopen the game from the current NYT Games Wordle page rather than relying on an old saved link.

The daily boundary caused a missed puzzle
Wordle’s daily puzzle changes according to the game’s date boundary, and community reports describe streak resets after solving close to midnight or while traveling between time zones. These reports are anecdotal rather than an official NYT explanation, so treat time-zone problems as a possibility—not proof that every reset has the same cause.
The puzzle completed but the stats did not sync
Some players have reported seeing a completed puzzle while the result screen indicated that statistics could not sync. In that situation, the puzzle result and the displayed streak can temporarily disagree. There is no guaranteed repair procedure established by the available evidence, so first preserve the current account and session rather than repeatedly clearing data or changing devices.

Safe recovery sequence
1. Stop switching between accounts
Write down which account is signed in on the NYT Games app, the website, and the device where the streak was last correct. Use the same account everywhere. If you find the correct account, allow Wordle to load fully and then reopen the statistics panel.
2. Return to the device with the original progress
If you played while logged out, check the original browser or device before clearing anything. The local session may still contain the missing history. Do not assume that signing in on a second device will import those results.

Close the stale tab, bypass an old shortcut, and launch Wordle from the current NYT Games site. Then sign in and check the statistics icon again.

4. Review extensions and cookie settings
Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy tools, script blockers, or cookie restrictions for the NYT site, then reload Wordle in a normal window. Restore the protections afterward if the site continues to function correctly.
5. Clear only NYT site data, and only when appropriate
This step can help when corrupted or stale site data prevents an already account-backed streak from loading. It can destroy a streak that exists only locally, so use it only after checking the account and original device.
The relevant domain is usually nytimes.com; older setups may also contain entries for wordle.com. Remove only the matching NYT or Wordle entries, not all browser history and cookies.
- Safari on Mac: Open
Safari→Settings→Privacy→Manage Website Data. Search fornytimesand remove the matching entries. - Firefox: Open Wordle, select the lock icon in the address bar, and choose
Clear cookies and site data. Alternatively, go toSettings→Privacy & Security→Cookies and Site Data. - Safari on iPhone or iPad: Open iOS or iPadOS
Settings→Safari→Advanced→Website Data. Search fornytimesand delete only the matching entries. - Chrome on Android: Open the three-dot menu →
Settings→Site settings→All sites→nytimes.com, then clear or reset the stored data.
Afterward, reopen Wordle from the current NYT Games page, sign in to the intended account, and let the game load before checking stats. Clearing site data is a reset of the browser session—not a method that automatically restores a missing streak.

- Do not wipe all browser data first. A full cleanup can remove local progress and sign you out everywhere.
- Do not assume clearing the cache restores stats. It may help only when stale data blocks an account-backed history; it can also delete locally stored statistics.
- Do not change the device date or time. Community discussions mention date manipulation, but there is no verified NYT-supported repair method, and changing date boundaries can create more inconsistencies.
- Do not edit local-storage keys unless you accept the risk. Unofficial developer-tools methods refer to keys such as
nyt-wordle-statistics,nyt-wordle-state, andwordle-legacy-stats, but these are browser-specific, unsupported, and can overwrite current progress. There is no verified current command-line command for restoring a Wordle streak.
When the streak probably cannot be recovered
Recovery is least likely when the streak was created while logged out, the original browser data was cleared, the device was reset, or the private browsing session has already closed. In those cases, there may be no account-backed copy for Wordle to retrieve.
If the streak is attached to the correct NYT account but still does not appear after trying the normal account, browser, and site-data checks, contact New York Times support. Describe the account and platforms involved without sharing passwords or other sensitive information.
