Reach Azure Hollow through Cinder Cavern, equip the shovel you want to change, and interact with the altar. Each Tome gives one random enchantment, and a later Tome replaces the shovel’s current effect.
How enchanting works in DIG
In DIG, enchanting gives your equipped shovel one random enchantment. You need an Enchantment Tome, then travel to the Enchanting Altar in Azure Hollow. Using another Tome later rolls a new enchantment and replaces the shovel’s existing effect, so there is no separate slot for stacking multiple enchantments.

Where to find the Enchanting Altar
The altar is in Azure Hollow, the underground settlement reached through Cinder Cavern.
Recommended Free Tools
- Travel to Cinder Cavern. Common navigation references place it north of Fernhill Forest, near Rooftop Woodlands and across from Verdant Vale. Landmarks may change as DIG is updated, so use these as general directions rather than fixed coordinates.
- Enter the cavern and follow the route to the elevator.
- Pay the elevator fee of $1,000.
- Continue through the lower cave system, following the blue glowing mushrooms.
- Enter Azure Hollow and find the Enchanting Altar or its pedestal.
A fast vehicle can make the trip easier. An Emergency Flare is also a useful precaution if you become lost or need a way to recover during the journey.

How to get an Enchantment Tome
There are two reported ways to obtain a Tome:
- Dig for one: Tomes can appear randomly while digging. One guide estimates the chance at roughly 1 in 250, but that figure is not confirmed by an official DIG source and may not represent the current live rate.
- Check the wizard tower: Community guides agree that a Tome can be purchased for approximately $15,000 from the wizard during the relevant weather event, generally described as Storm or Stormy weather.
The wizard details reported by guides do not fully agree. They differ over the tower’s name, the required weather, the season, level requirements, and even the location information. For that reason, do not rely on an old coordinate guide or assume that a level requirement is current. If you are trying to buy a Tome, bring $15,000, watch for the relevant weather event, and check the wizard tower in the current game.
How to enchant a shovel
- Bring an Enchantment Tome to Azure Hollow.
- Equip the shovel you want to roll an enchantment for. The currently equipped shovel is the one affected.
- Equip or hold the Enchantment Tome.
- Interact with the Enchanting Altar or pedestal, usually by holding the on-screen interaction key.
- Accept the result. The Tome produces one random enchantment.
Before confirming, check that the correct shovel is equipped. A new Tome does not add a second effect alongside the old one: it rerolls the shovel’s enchantment and replaces the previous result.
All 14 DIG enchantments
The current reference set contains 14 enchantments. The listed effects and names come primarily from community-maintained DIG references, so check the in-game description if a future update changes the wording.
Rank #2
| Enchantment | Effect | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Bulky | +15% Control | General digging when control is the limiting stat |

| Lucky | +10% Luck | General loot-focused digging |
| Storming | +40% Luck during Stormy weather | Storm farming |
| Sundering | +20% Boss Damage | Boss-focused builds |
| Altered | +15% chance for a random item modifier or mutation | Players hunting modified or mutated finds |

| Sparkled | +3% chance for Shiny items | Shiny-item hunting |
| Chrono | Dug items are +10% older | Players pursuing item-age goals |
| Abundant | Increases the chance of obtaining additional rewards or items | Reward-quantity farming |
| Prodigy | 1.5× digging XP | Leveling and experience grinding |
| Scrapper | 45% chance not to consume a Magnet when used | Magnet-dependent farming |
Some guides spell Scrapper as “Scrappy,” but Scrapper is the name used by the main reference set. The wording around Altered also varies between “modifier,” “mutation,” and similar terms. Use the exact description shown in your game if it differs.
What is the best enchantment in DIG?
There is no universally best enchantment. The right roll depends on what the shovel does well already and what you are trying to collect or accomplish.
| Your goal | Most relevant choices | Why |
|---|---|---|
| General digging and loot | Lucky, Strong, Bulky, or Swift | These improve broad stats rather than requiring a particular activity or weather condition. |
| Storm farming | Storming | Its +40% Luck applies during Stormy weather, making it highly situational but powerful for that activity. |
| Bosses | Sundering | It is the specialized option because its documented effect is +20% Boss Damage. |
| Modifiers or mutations | Altered or Noir | Altered targets random item modification or mutation chances, while Noir targets Dark items or the Dark mutation. |
| Shiny items | Sparkled | It directly increases the chance for Shiny items. |
| Size attributes | Wumbo | It targets the chance of receiving or changing an item’s size attribute. |
| More digging XP | Prodigy | The documented effect is a 1.5× digging XP multiplier. |
| Magnet farming | Scrapper | Its 45% chance not to consume a Magnet can reduce resource consumption. |
| More reward quantity | Abundant | It is the explicit extra-reward option, although the exact probability increase is not specified. |
| Older items | Chrono | It makes dug items 10% older. Do not assume that older automatically means more valuable unless the item’s value rules separately confirm it. |
Suggested shovel pairings
These are build suggestions, not mandatory combinations or official rules:
- Chrono: Prismatic or Frigid
- Scrapper: Ruby or Shortcake
- Lucky: Copper or Jam
- Bulky: Frigid or Abyssal
- Abundant: Magnet or Candlelight
- Strong: Solstice or Prismatic
- Wumbo: Starfire or Prismatic
- Prodigy: Gold Digger or Jam
- Sundering: Frigid or Slayer
- Swift: Candlelight or Abyssal
- Altered: Jam or Candlelight
- Sparkled: Prismatic or Gold
- Storming: Shortcake or Spore Spade
- Noir: Jam or Candlelight
Use the table as a starting point, then compare the enchantment with your shovel’s actual stats and your farming route. A specialized effect can be worse than a broad-stat effect if you rarely perform the activity it supports.

Enchanting odds and the Enchant Blessing
Each of the 14 enchantments is listed as having equal odds. That makes the chance of a particular enchantment:
1 in 14, or approximately 7.14% per Tome.
The roll is random, and the available references do not document a pity system or an improved chance after repeated failures. In practical terms, saving several Tomes gives you more attempts but does not guarantee a chosen result.
Rank #4
Enchanting also grants the temporary Enchant Blessing buff, which provides +0.5 Luck for 10 minutes. Enchanting again while the buff is active refreshes its duration rather than adding another separate duration. Available information confirms the temporary Luck bonus, but does not establish that it changes the enchantment-roll distribution itself. Do not treat the blessing as a guarantee of a better enchantment.

- Decide on a goal first: do not reroll a useful general-purpose enchantment simply because it is not the community’s favorite.
- Equip the intended shovel before using the altar: the currently equipped shovel receives the result.
- Keep spare Tomes if possible: every roll is still approximately 1/14 for a chosen effect.
- Match situational effects to your schedule: Storming is much more valuable if you actively farm during Stormy weather.
- Use the Enchant Blessing window: if you plan to do Luck-sensitive farming after enchanting, the +0.5 Luck buff lasts 10 minutes.
- Do not overstate secondary benefits: Chrono’s documented effect concerns age, and Abundant’s exact increase is unspecified.
Optional Roblox spending note
If you are looking for a general gift or Roblox balance for a player, an optional Roblox Gift Card is the relevant purchase category. It does not provide an Enchantment Tome, guarantee a particular roll, or improve enchantment odds; keep it separate from the in-game farming strategy.

Yes. Using another Tome at the altar rerolls the shovel’s enchantment and replaces the previous effect; enchantments do not stack in separate slots.
