There is no single DigitalOcean price for streaming to YouTube. Budget for the Droplet, any outbound data above your team’s shared transfer allowance, and optional storage or snapshots. As of DigitalOcean’s pricing and billing pages checked October 3, 2026, a Basic Droplet starts at $4 per month, but that entry plan is an example—not a recommendation for every streaming workload.
What makes up the bill?
A practical estimate is: Droplet cost + outbound-transfer overage, if any + optional Volumes and snapshot charges. Your total depends on the Droplet plan and runtime, what the server sends, how much transfer your team uses across its Droplets, and whether you need persistent storage beyond local disk.
Droplet compute: the starting cost
DigitalOcean’s pricing page lists these Basic Droplet examples as of October 3, 2026. Prices and plan availability can change; check the current Droplet pricing before budgeting.
| Basic Droplet example | Monthly price | Included transfer | Listed local SSD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 512 MiB RAM, 1 vCPU | $4 | 500 GiB | 10 GiB |
| 1,000 GiB transfer example | $6 | 1,000 GiB | Not stated for this example on the cited pricing page |
| 2,000 GiB transfer example | $12 | 2,000 GiB | Not stated for this example on the cited pricing page |
These figures describe plan examples, not the cost of a complete streaming setup. A server that only forwards an already encoded feed has a different compute workload from one that encodes or transcodes video. DigitalOcean also offers CPU-optimized Droplets for workloads needing consistent dedicated CPU performance, including media streaming; that does not mean every YouTube stream requires one.

- 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
Bandwidth: count public outbound traffic
DigitalOcean’s billing distinction is direction-specific: inbound transfer to Droplets is free, while outbound transfer uses the allowance included with Droplets and is charged at $0.01 per GiB after the applicable allowance. DigitalOcean says allowances and usage accrue to a shared team pool, do not roll over month to month, and have no regional price variation. See DigitalOcean’s bandwidth billing documentation (last verified September 14, 2026).
One feed to YouTube is not the same as a viewer relay
If a Droplet sends one upstream feed to YouTube, its outbound profile is tied to that feed. If the Droplet also distributes video to viewers, those viewer connections add outbound traffic. Do not estimate the two arrangements as if they were equivalent. The required bitrate, runtime, and destinations for a particular YouTube setup are not established by DigitalOcean’s pricing pages, so use the actual configuration rather than a universal bandwidth total.

The allowance belongs to the team pool
Do not treat each Droplet’s included transfer as a sealed personal quota. DigitalOcean’s example billing guidance explains that one Droplet’s usage can be offset by allowance contributed by another Droplet in the same team. Add up relevant team-level usage and allowances, then apply the overage rate only to outbound transfer beyond the available pool.
Storage: local disk, Volumes, and Spaces
The Droplet plan includes local SSD, while a network-attached Volume is an additional storage line item. DigitalOcean’s published Volumes prices checked October 3, 2026 are:

See DigitalOcean Volumes pricing. DigitalOcean’s plan guidance distinguishes Volumes for additional application data from Spaces for offloading files and metadata. Spaces can be considered for stored media assets, but traffic from a Droplet to Spaces currently counts against Droplet outbound transfer allowance; storage offload does not automatically remove egress costs. See Droplet plan guidance and Spaces pricing documentation.
Estimate your own streaming cost
- Choose the Droplet configuration and runtime. Record the plan, its monthly price and included transfer, and how long it will run. The smallest plan’s listed figures are a starting point for comparison, not proof that it can handle your encoding or relay workload.
- Describe the traffic topology. Note whether the Droplet sends only an upstream feed to YouTube or also serves viewers, and identify any other public outbound destinations.
- Estimate actual outbound transfer. Use the stream’s encoded bitrate and hours for the feed, plus any viewer or other egress traffic. The cited DigitalOcean sources do not provide a YouTube-specific bitrate or audience assumption, so those inputs must come from your actual workflow.
- Apply the team pool. Compare estimated team-wide outbound usage with transfer allowances across the team’s Droplets. Allowances do not roll over into the next month.
- Add optional storage. Include provisioned Volume capacity and snapshot capacity if used. If using Spaces for files, account for Droplet-to-Spaces traffic in outbound transfer as well.
- Apply the current overage rate. If team outbound usage exceeds the available allowance, budget $0.01 per additional GiB under DigitalOcean’s documented rate, and verify current prices before committing.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is simply to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube, StreamNeo is an alternative to managing a Droplet: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Quick Recap
Which costs are easy to miss?
- Team-level aggregation: an individual Droplet’s listed allowance does not tell you the unused allowance or overage position for the whole team.
- Extra destinations: a viewer relay or other public egress can change the transfer calculation substantially compared with sending one upstream feed.
- Persistent data: Volumes and snapshots have separate published prices; using Spaces does not make Droplet-to-Spaces outbound transfer free.
- Workload sizing: compute price alone does not establish whether a plan can encode, transcode, or relay your particular stream.
