The weapon twist is the point: some weapons can help the dinosaur, while others can hinder progress. The game’s clearest documented inspiration is Google’s Chrome Dino; the available descriptions do not establish a full catalogue of other classic-game references or a formal content rating.
What is Dino Swords?
Dino Swords is a portrait-mode browser game presented as MSCHF Drop #28 and branded as an MSCHF x 100 Thieves project. Its official site describes a simple goal: find and use up to 26 weapons while trying to post a high score on a global leaderboard. Christina Bull’s project portfolio describes the same idea as Chrome’s hidden runner reimagined with weapons, some of which can benefit the player and some of which can impede progress. The available descriptions do not provide a complete weapon-by-weapon guide.
The weapons make the game’s premise more chaotic than Chrome Dino’s basic run, duck, and jump loop. They do not, by themselves, substantiate a claim that the game contains graphic violence; the sources cited here do not provide a formal content rating.
How it relates to Google’s Chrome Dino
Google’s Chrome Dino began as an endless runner on Chrome’s offline page. In a September 6, 2018 account, the game’s creators traced the idea to early 2014, when they wanted to make losing an internet connection less frustrating. The desert setting and cacti came from the offline page, while Chrome’s pixel-art error illustrations influenced the visual style. Designer Alan Bettes described the eventual controls as the basics of a runner: “run, duck and jump.”

- Advanced Gaming Buttons – Get an edge over the competition with two mappable buttons you can program on-the-fly, mid-game—no system settings to configure
- 3-Way Trigger Locks – Set the travel distance of the triggers with three different positions to pull off quicker actions in your favorite FPS games or go full throttle in a high-end race car
- Dual Rumble Motors – Take your gaming experience to the next level, providing tactile feedback and sensations that bring your virtual worlds to life
- Immersive Impulse Triggers – Provides reactive rumble sensations using built-in motors so you can feel the action of the game*
- Extra Long USB-C Cable – Provides you with 10ft of distance for more comfort and flexibility than shorter cables
Google said the game was submitted in September 2014 and expanded to all platforms by December after an early version performed poorly on older Android devices. The same 2018 article reported that Chrome UX engineer Edward Jung put play at 270 million games per month across laptop and mobile. That is a creator-reported figure from 2018, not a current usage count.
Chrome Dino can be launched without disconnecting from the internet by entering chrome://dino in Chrome’s address bar, according to Google. Its retrospective also describes an arcade mode for practicing high scores. Dino Swords takes the recognizable runner foundation in a different direction by adding weapons and a global leaderboard.

Who made Dino Swords?
The project was presented as a collaboration between MSCHF and 100 Thieves. In launch-period coverage by The Next Web, MSCHF’s Daniel Greenberg said the team had imagined ways to modify the Chrome dinosaur game and decided to make one. 100 Thieves founder Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag described it as their take on the Chrome runner, made more extravagant with 26 weapons.
Christina Bull’s portfolio credits the project team as follows:

Was there a Dino Swords collectible?
Yes. Christina Bull’s portfolio says a limited-edition collectible figurine was released alongside the game. That establishes a past physical release, but not current stock, a matching current Amazon listing, or present-day availability.

What does “homage to classic games” mean here?
The documented lineage is specifically Chrome’s offline dinosaur runner and the familiar conventions of a simple retro-style runner. Google’s account says the designers wanted rigid movement reminiscent of vintage video games. Beyond that, the available descriptions do not identify a definitive set of other classic games that Dino Swords references, so the broader “classic games” framing should be understood as a description of its retro runner feel rather than a verified list of inspirations.
