If Diplomacy is Not an Option crashes, freezes, or will not launch on PC, first confirm whether you installed the full game or the separate Shareware edition, then compare your PC with that edition’s Steam requirements and install any available game update. Door 407’s April 2026 update improved RAM use and fixed some related crash cases, but no source establishes one cause or a guaranteed fix for every crash.
1. Confirm which edition you have
The full game and Diplomacy is Not an Option: Shareware have separate Steam listings and different graphics and storage requirements. Check the title shown in your Steam library before comparing your PC: using the wrong listing can make a compatible system appear below spec, or mask a genuine shortfall.
2. Compare your PC with the matching requirements
Steam’s published requirements are a compatibility check, not a diagnosis. Being below a minimum may contribute to trouble, but meeting or exceeding it does not prove what caused a crash.

These are the listings for the full game and Shareware. If you are short on RAM, check your PC’s supported memory type and maximum capacity before considering an upgrade; the published figures alone do not establish that buying memory will fix a crash.

3. Install available game updates
Door 407’s April 1, 2026 update, version 1.0.138_r, was titled “RAM Utilisation Update is Here!” Its notes say it improved RAM use, especially during long play sessions, and fixed some related crash cases. The notes describe the fix as covering “a few rare crash cases some players may have experienced.” Update the game through Steam and test again, particularly if the problem appears after a long session. The update does not show that RAM use is the cause of every player’s crash.
4. Test general PC troubleshooting checks one at a time
A third-party troubleshooting video suggests the checks below. They are general possibilities to test, not developer-confirmed remedies for every Diplomacy is Not an Option crash. Change one thing at a time and retry the same action that triggered the problem so you can tell whether anything changed.

- Update your graphics driver. Install an available driver for your graphics card from its manufacturer, then restart the PC and test the game.
- Verify the game files in Steam. In your Steam Library, right-click the game and open Properties, then Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam complete the check before launching again.
- Temporarily disable overlays. Turn off overlays you use, such as Steam’s in-game overlay or an overlay provided by another app, then test again. Re-enable them if they make no difference.
- Try launching as administrator. This is a suggested test, not a confirmed fix. If you try it, use the game’s executable and restore the prior setting if it does not help.
- Recheck the matching requirements. Make sure you are comparing against the full-game or Shareware listing that matches your installation, including RAM, graphics, and available storage.
5. Contact the game’s support if it still crashes
If the crash continues after these checks, use the product website or customer support destination linked from the full-game Steam listing. Include the edition you play, your PC specifications, when the crash happens (for example, at launch or after a long session), and any error text. Those details can help support narrow down a problem that the published requirements and update notes cannot diagnose on their own.
