Try these steps in order
After each change, launch Veilguard and see whether the crash returns. Changing one thing at a time makes it easier to tell what helped. These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes.
1. Install available updates
Check for updates to both the Xbox system software and the game, then retry. EA’s game-specific guidance also suggests returning to the standard Xbox operating system if the console is running an Xbox Insider build. EA’s Series X|S troubleshooting discussion
2. Fully quit the game and Quick Resume apps
Quit Veilguard rather than simply switching away from it, and close other apps listed in Quick Resume. Then start the game again. EA staff recommend this for Xbox Series X|S.

3. Remove USB devices and restart
Disconnect USB accessories and storage devices that are not needed for the test, then restart the console and launch the game again. EA includes removing USB devices and restarting in its Xbox crash and freezing troubleshooting guide.
4. Power cycle the Xbox
If a regular restart does not help, power cycle the console using the current instructions in Xbox Support’s restart or power-cycle guide. Retry Veilguard afterward.

5. Reinstall the game and check its storage location
Uninstall and reinstall Veilguard. If it is currently installed on an external drive, try installing it on the console’s internal storage and test again. EA suggests reinstalling and trying internal storage when the game is on an external drive.
6. Consider the further steps in EA’s guide
EA’s general Xbox troubleshooting guide also lists clearing the alternate MAC address and deleting local saved data. These steps are not established as specific fixes for Veilguard. Read the Xbox prompts and understand the local-save and cloud-sync implications before deleting data; the reviewed guidance does not explain the exact sync behavior or guarantee that deletion will resolve the crash.

What the crash symptoms do—and do not—tell you
One player in EA’s Xbox discussion described audio cutting out, the game freezing, and then returning to the dashboard at different moments. That is an individual report, not proof of a particular cause or of how common the problem is. A freeze after a cutscene or a crash at another gameplay moment does not, by itself, identify whether the cause is the game, console, storage, or something else.
EA’s Patch 5 notes, dated January 23, 2025, said the game was in a stable place and that EA would monitor for game-breaking bugs. The listed fixes do not mention Xbox crashes, so the notes do not establish that all crashes are resolved or that a particular Xbox crash was fixed. Read EA’s Patch 5 notes.

Changing graphics modes is not an established crash fix. EA’s specifications page says the Xbox Series X|S fidelity and performance modes target 30 and 60 FPS, respectively; it does not recommend changing modes to resolve crashes. EA’s specifications article.

- Whether you use an Xbox Series X or Series S.
- The game version and Xbox system software version.
- When the crash happens, such as on startup, during a specific activity, or after a cutscene.
- Whether the game is installed on internal or external storage.
- What you tried and whether anything changed.
