First, identify the affected AboutGolf program
Look at the error window, desktop shortcut, or Start menu entry. You may see an AboutGolf game, launcher, or an older World Tours-era product. The error may appear when starting the game itself, a launcher, or an installer.
To inspect the shortcut:
- Right-click the AboutGolf shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Note the path in Target and the folder shown in Start in.
- Click Cancel.

Reinstall from original media
If no repair option exists:
- Back up saved games if you know where the game stores them.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the AboutGolf program.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original AboutGolf installer from trusted installation media.
- Install the game into its normal folder.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine

Antivirus software may remove an old application DLL after detecting it, or cleanup software may delete it as unused. Check the quarantine history before changing Windows settings.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for the AboutGolf installation folder or
direct32.dll. - Select an entry to see its details.

- The game came from legitimate original media.
- The installer and its folder are trusted.
- The detection refers to the expected AboutGolf installation.
- You are not dealing with a repackaged or modified download.
Microsoft warns that restoring a threat can cause Defender to detect it again. If the file was removed from a legitimate installation, reinstalling the game from trusted media is safer than restoring an isolated DLL.
After reinstalling, start the game again. If Windows Security immediately removes the restored file, leave the file quarantined and contact the game vendor or support provider. Do not broadly disable antivirus protection or whitelist an unverified download.

Fix 3: Confirm that the DLL is beside the game
Time needed: 5 minutes
A 32-bit game can run on 64-bit Windows, but its application DLL usually belongs in the game’s own folder. Windows does not need an application-specific DLL placed in System32 or SysWOW64.
To inspect the installation folder:
- Right-click the AboutGolf shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Click Open File Location.
- Look for
direct32.dllin the folder containing the game executable. - If it is missing, run the repair or reinstall procedure again.
- If it is present, do not move it to a Windows folder.
- Double-click the game’s original shortcut to test it.
If the shortcut points to a file on a removable drive, network share, backup folder, or another computer, reinstall the game locally. A copied executable may search in the wrong location or lack other files from the original installation.
A file with the right name can still be the wrong build. Do not substitute direct32.dll from another AboutGolf release or from a DLL download page. Matching the filename does not prove that the version, dependencies, or internal interfaces match your game.
Fix 4: Install a Microsoft runtime only when the new error names it
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
There is no evidence that direct32.dll is a DirectX component. Do not install DirectX merely because the filename contains “direct.” The file is reported as an AboutGolf application module, not as a Windows runtime file.

If the error names DirectX
Microsoft provides the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer. Older games may also need optional legacy components from the DirectX End-User Runtimes June 2010 package.
To install the web package:
- Open the Microsoft download page.
- Download
dxwebsetup.exe. - Right-click the downloaded file.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Accept the license terms.
- Allow the installer to complete.
- Restart Windows.
- Start AboutGolf again.
The June 2010 package installs legacy side-by-side components. It does not replace the DirectX version built into Windows, and it does not supply an arbitrary game DLL such as direct32.dll.

If the error names a Visual C++ runtime
Use Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.

A 32-bit game generally needs the x86 redistributable even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. Follow the architecture indicated by the application or by the new error.
- Open the Microsoft Visual C++ download page.
- Choose the supported package matching the application’s architecture.
- Download the installer.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Choose Install or Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the game again.
Installing a newer runtime is not guaranteed to replace every older runtime generation. If the AboutGolf installer includes a runtime installer, use the copy supplied with the same legitimate game release.
Fix 5: Run Windows Update, DISM, and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Windows repair tools are useful when protected Windows components are damaged. They are not expected to restore direct32.dll, because this file is associated with an application rather than Windows.
Start with Windows Update:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart if prompted.
- Check for updates again until Windows reports that it is current.
Then run DISM followed by SFC:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command and press Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test AboutGolf again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command can restore a third-party DLL that was never part of Windows.
Repeating these commands will not fix a missing application file if the AboutGolf installation itself is incomplete. Fix 6: Test compatibility and administrator access
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
An old 32-bit game may load its DLL correctly but still fail because of changes in modern Windows. Test compatibility only after confirming that the complete game installation is present.
Run the compatibility troubleshooter
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Troubleshoot.
- Select Other troubleshooters.
- Find Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
- Select Run.
- Choose the AboutGolf executable.
- Follow the recommended test settings.
- Select Test the program.
- If it starts, accept the settings.
You can also configure the executable directly:
- Right-click the game executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version offered by the dialog.
- Select Run this program as an administrator only if the game requires it.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the game.
Administrator mode does not replace a missing DLL. It only helps when permissions prevent the game from reading its installation folder or writing required configuration data.
Fix 7: Check drivers only for a separate graphics or hardware error
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
A display-driver problem can prevent an old game from rendering, but it does not normally create or repair direct32.dll. Use Device Manager only when the error also mentions graphics, display initialization, DirectDraw, or a device problem.

- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the listed graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Install an offered driver and restart Windows.
- Test AboutGolf.

- Return to Device Manager > Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver, if available.
- Restart Windows.

Do not use Device Manager to search for direct32.dll. Drivers and application DLLs are different parts of the system.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent system change
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when AboutGolf worked recently and the error began after a driver installation, Windows change, or other software installation.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Next.
- Select Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can revert system files, settings, drivers, and installed programs. It does not normally remove personal documents, but review the affected programs shown before confirming.
If the game was already incomplete before the restore point, System Restore will not recreate the missing AboutGolf installer files. Run the game repair or reinstall afterward.
Do not copy direct32.dll into System32
Random DLL instructions often recommend copying a downloaded file into:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
That is the wrong default approach for this file. On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains 64-bit system files and SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. Neither folder is the normal home for an AboutGolf application DLL.

Do not run:
regsvr32 direct32.dll
unless documentation for your exact AboutGolf release explicitly requires registration. There is no established evidence that this application file needs it.
