Disney and Epic announced a multiyear plan for a persistent games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite—not just a batch of character skins. The visible crossovers are arriving in stages, but the wider experience described in 2024 remains a company ambition rather than a fully delivered feature set. A 2026 report points to a more direct connection between Disney parks and Fortnite, though it does not establish a launch date for the complete universe.
What is the Disney and Fortnite deal?
On February 7, 2024, Disney and Epic Games announced a multiyear collaboration to create an open, persistent, social games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite. Disney also announced a $1.5 billion investment to acquire an equity stake in Epic, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. The investment was part of the announcement; it was not a promise to deliver a particular game or set of cosmetics.
The companies described an experience powered by Unreal Engine, with Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar worlds and characters. Their stated possibilities included playing, watching, shopping, interacting with characters and stories, creating experiences, and sharing them. Those were announced plans, not evidence that every capability was available at launch. Disney CEO Robert A. Iger called it the company’s biggest entry into games; Epic CEO Tim Sweeney described the goal as a persistent, open, interoperable ecosystem.
Disney’s announcement said Fortnite had more than 100 million active players and creators, and that Marvel’s Nexus War with Galactus had drawn more than 15.3 million concurrent players. These are figures Disney cited in February 2024, not current player counts.

What Disney content has been announced or reported for Fortnite?
2024: Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel plans
At its August 2024 D23 showcase, Disney announced Disney Animation characters Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook; a first Pixar content arrival featuring The Incredibles; Star Wars characters and items; and Marvel’s Absolute Doom season. Disney Experiences reported that more than 1.3 million concurrent players watched the showcase live in Fortnite. That is the event’s reported audience, not a current Fortnite audience figure.
Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said the projects were in active development at the time. The announcement signaled that the collaboration included more than cosmetics, but did not establish that the full shared universe had arrived. Disney’s D23 announcements provide the dated details.
2025: a Star Wars season, show premiere, and account linking
On April 29, 2025, Epic announced Fortnite: Galactic Battle, a Star Wars-themed Battle Royale season, and an in-game premiere of Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld ahead of its Disney+ premiere. Epic also described an option for eligible players to link Epic and MyDisney accounts to unlock a First Order Stormtrooper Outfit. Epic called account linking a “first step” toward moving between the companies’ ecosystems. These were 2025 announcements and do not, by themselves, confirm what remains available now.

2026: a reported connection to the Smugglers Run attraction
In an August 15, 2026 report, TechRadar described Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite, pairing the park attraction with a Fortnite island called Smugglers Gambit. TechRadar characterized it as the first time a physical attraction produced an unlockable Fortnite reward, and noted that earlier Disney-themed Fortnite islands were largely standalone. This is a reported later development, not a detail from the original 2024 announcement; TechRadar’s report describes the connection.

No. Character outfits and themed items are the easiest part of the partnership to see in Fortnite, but the 2024 announcement promised a broader ecosystem for games, social experiences, viewing, shopping, creation, and sharing. The later Star Wars season and in-game series premiere show that the announced collaborations can extend beyond cosmetics. The reported Smugglers Run link points toward a connection with a physical Disney attraction, but does not establish that all the original interoperability goals have been delivered.
A useful way to judge progress is to distinguish content that appears inside Fortnite from features that connect Fortnite to Disney services, player-created experiences, or physical parks. A themed island or skin is a crossover; account linking or a park-linked reward is evidence of a more direct bridge. Neither category alone proves that the complete persistent universe described by the companies is finished.
When will the full Disney-Fortnite universe come out?
The sources cited here do not establish a definitive release date for the complete universe. At D23 in August 2024, Disney said the larger experience was “still a few years away.” That was a forecast made at the time, not a current schedule. The dated content announcements and TechRadar’s 2026 report show developments along the way, but do not supply a confirmed launch date for the full vision.
For that reason, a specific item, season, show premiere, or island should not be mistaken for the launch of the entire planned experience. Availability can vary by date and Fortnite update; the announcements cited above do not confirm current shop rotations or reward eligibility.
