Players have been sharing striking, exaggerated character-creator faces from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered since the game launched. They make for memorable “nightmare fuel,” but the available reporting points to player-made designs—not a confirmed game-wide face bug.
What is behind the funny Oblivion Remastered faces?
The faces are player-character designs shared on social media soon after launch. GameSpot reported that the updated character creator could produce both appealing and exaggerated results, framing the posts as a funny reaction to the game’s new look. That establishes a social-media trend, not a measured level of virality.
There is no substantiated technical explanation tying the images to a bug. Without an official diagnosis or a reproducible test, it is more accurate to treat the bizarre faces as striking results made in the creator than as evidence that characters across the game are malfunctioning.
What changed in the remaster’s visuals?
Bethesda described the remaster as featuring “more detailed character models and improved lip synching.” Those official visual updates may help explain why faces attract attention, but they do not establish that either change caused the shared designs or made them look strange.

Contemporary coverage described social media as filling with player-character designs soon after release. That supports calling the images a trend, but no suitable published figure quantifies its reach.
