Disney Lorcana’s first competitive bans were Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere in Core Constructed. Ravensburger made them ineligible for that format effective April 8, 2025, citing an overly powerful item-based interaction that opponents struggled to stop. Hiram was later banned separately in Infinity Constructed, effective March 26, 2026. These are format-specific tournament bans, not removals from casual play.
Which Lorcana cards were first banned?
Ravensburger’s first card-ban announcement covered Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere in Core Constructed. The bans took effect April 8, 2025; the company published its explanation on July 16, 2025, describing the action as the first card bans since Disney Lorcana launched in August 2023. Ravensburger’s Core Constructed announcement
The announcement addressed tournament eligibility in a particular format. It did not say the cards were deleted from the game or forbidden in every kind of play.
Why did Ravensburger ban Hiram and Fortisphere?
The central concern was the Hiram-and-items interaction. Ravensburger said opponents could not interact with Hiram in the relevant situations, while Hiram could banish items such as Fortisphere before opponents had a chance to respond. The resulting advantage was difficult to stop and could make games predictable and one-sided.

Ravensburger also said Fortisphere placed too much emphasis on Steel item use, which the team felt did not align with that ink’s core strengths. Its broader stated aim was healthier, more varied competitive play. Elaine Chase, Ravensburger’s Chief Marketing Officer for TCGs, said bans were “the last line of defense” and would be used when they could increase excitement for competitive play. The full explanation
Pawpsicle was not banned
Ravensburger considered Pawpsicle but left it eligible. The company said it continued to support item-focused Sapphire decks even without Hiram. The first Core Constructed ban therefore did not remove all item-based strategies.
Hiram received a separate Infinity Constructed ban in 2026
On March 26, 2026, Ravensburger announced that Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker was also banned in Infinity Constructed, effective immediately. Steve Warner, the game’s co-creator and design-team lead, said Hiram continued to create an “insurmountable resource gap” and had become too efficient for the format’s health. The announcement said the change was intended to encourage diverse deckbuilding. Ravensburger’s Infinity Constructed announcement
This was a distinct format decision made after the 2025 Core action. The 2026 announcement establishes Hiram’s Infinity ban; it does not, by itself, establish his current Core Constructed status.

Core Constructed and Infinity Constructed are different
Ravensburger’s August 2025 Fabled release notes describe Core Constructed as having a rotating set pool, while Infinity Constructed allows cards from any set subject to its own ban list. Rotation and bans govern tournament eligibility; the notes also say players can continue using cards at home. Fabled set release notes
That distinction matters when asking whether a card is “banned.” The answer depends on the format, date, and event rules—not just the card name. The English-language 2025 Core announcement also said its initial ban did not apply to Core events in China and Japan, where localized announcements would address the treatment. That was a regional qualification to that announcement, not evidence of a current global rule.
Is Hiram Flaversham still legal in Lorcana?
The available official announcements establish Hiram’s historical Core ban effective April 8, 2025, and his Infinity ban effective March 26, 2026. They do not establish his exact Core Constructed legality as of October 8, 2026. Core rotation and later format updates can change tournament eligibility, so check Ravensburger’s current official format list and the rules for the specific event before building a deck or entering a tournament.
Can you still play the banned cards casually?
Yes. Ravensburger’s ban announcements preserve use of the cards in casual play with friends and family, and its set notes distinguish tournament legality from playing at home. If a casual group uses custom restrictions, follow the group’s agreement; the competitive bans do not themselves require players to remove these cards from their collections or home games.
