ELDEN RING has no official, current procedure for disabling Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). The available file-renaming instructions come from a 2022 Steam Community post, are unverified on current game builds, and are described as an offline-only workaround. If your goal is to play offline, Steam’s own Offline Mode guidance is the safer starting point; if EAC is preventing launch, first troubleshoot the standard game installation rather than assuming that bypassing it will solve the problem.
What EAC does in ELDEN RING
FromSoftware’s Terms of Service for Online Services for ELDEN RING describe EAC as part of the game software. The terms say it automatically loads and installs its latest version when the game starts, and that it is used to prevent conduct prohibited by the online-service terms. They also say EAC monitors hardware, analyzes software binaries, and scans hardware memory for cheat detection and prevention. Those are the publisher’s descriptions of the system, not findings from independent technical testing.
The terms prohibit online conduct including falsifying data and using software functions or failures in a way the company did not intend. For conduct prohibited by the terms, the company or service provider may issue warnings, delete recorded data, or suspend or cease service use.
What changes when you play without EAC
The key trade-off is online access. The 2022 Steam Community post describing a file-renaming workaround says that the game will launch without EAC but cannot participate in online play. That is a user-posted description, not official support guidance, and it has not been established as functional on current builds.

There is no evidence here that disabling EAC improves performance or guarantees protection from account consequences. The terms describe potential enforcement for prohibited online conduct, but do not say that choosing offline play by itself automatically triggers a ban.
How to play offline using Steam’s supported mode
Steam’s Offline Mode guidance recommends launching games before disconnecting to confirm there are no outstanding updates or installation requirements. It warns that an offline launch may fail if Steam or game files need updating. This is general Steam advice; it does not confirm that any EAC bypass works for ELDEN RING.

- While online, open Steam and launch ELDEN RING normally at least once. Allow Steam and the game to complete any required updates or installations.
- Close the game, then use Steam’s Offline Mode according to Steam Support’s instructions.
- Launch the game from Steam while offline. If it cannot start because an update or installation is pending, reconnect and resolve that requirement before trying again.
How to disable EAC for offline play: the old community method
A Steam Community discussion published in 2022 describes renaming launcher executables in the Steam PC game folder so Steam starts the game without EAC. It is not an official method, its continued operation is unverified, and it should not be treated as guaranteed troubleshooting.
The post does not provide a current, publisher-supported procedure that can be relied on across updates. Because the method changes game files, preserve the originals before making any change. Do not use this description as a reason to modify files on consoles or other editions; the evidence only concerns Steam PC.

Before attempting it
- Understand that the instructions are community-authored and dated 2022, not current guidance from FromSoftware or Steam Support.
- Make a recoverable copy of the original files before changing anything.
- Expect online play to be unavailable through the described bypass, and do not assume it will work on your installed build.
Returning to the standard launch
- Restore the original file names and files from your backup.
- Use Steam’s game-file verification option if needed to restore official files.
- Launch ELDEN RING through Steam normally and allow updates to finish before attempting online play.
If EAC is blocking launch
A launch failure does not establish that EAC must be disabled. First try the standard Steam launch path and check whether Steam or the game needs an update or installation, since Steam says those requirements can prevent offline launches. If the problem continues, the sources cited here do not establish a specific ELDEN RING repair procedure or a current EAC bypass that resolves it; avoid treating the old file-renaming post as a verified fix.

FromSoftware’s PC update notice dated January 11, 2024 says that an Easy Anti-Cheat update was included for SteamOS compatibility and was required for online play at that time. It lists App Ver. 1.10.1 and Regulation Ver. 1.10; those are historical version references, not current version numbers. The notice demonstrates that EAC and online requirements can change with updates, but it does not validate the community workaround. Read the official PC update notice.

The community workaround concerns Steam PC. The available sources do not establish an official EAC-disable procedure, a current non-Steam PC method, or directions for consoles. Do not apply Steam PC file instructions to other editions or platforms.
