Disney’s “new game” is Smugglers Gambit, an in-house Disney Games island inside Fortnite—not a separate Disney console or PC release. It is a Star Wars co-op adventure set at Mers(a) Veta Station, where players complete missions, build reputation, and unlock gear. Its unusual feature is a physical-to-digital link with the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction. Fortnite remains the much larger host platform, with Battle Royale, creator-made islands, social tools, and digital commerce.

Smugglers Gambit is an island, not a standalone game
Smugglers Gambit is built by Disney Games and Digital Entertainment and runs inside Fortnite. It does not replace Fortnite, install as an independent Disney title, or create a separate platform ecosystem. Disney’s connection with the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction launched on August 16, 2026.

Disney Parks describes a Star Wars adventure involving co-operative missions, pirates, Imperial remnants, dangerous wildlife, reputation-building, and gear unlocks. Hondo Ohnaka is part of the story framework. The Fortnite hub presents the core loop plainly: take missions, improve your reputation, and unlock equipment.

The attraction link is the defining feature
Smugglers Gambit can begin in the physical world and continue in Fortnite. A guest can accept a mission in the Disneyland app or the My Disney Experience app before boarding Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Eligible riders who link their MyDisney and Epic accounts can convert ride scores into usable credits and unlock a Forsworn Trooper outfit.

You do not need to visit a Disney park to play the island. Disney says any Fortnite player can complete a Smugglers Gambit quest and receive the Gambit 2D Loading Screen. The park visit is therefore an optional route to additional ride-linked rewards, not an entry requirement for the digital adventure.

The practical choice is not “Disney’s game or Fortnite” as two competing downloads. It is a choice between a tightly themed activity within Fortnite and Fortnite’s much wider catalogue of modes and communities.
How the Smugglers Gambit loop works
1. Take a mission
In the digital island, missions provide the immediate objectives. The official descriptions emphasize co-operative play, so the intended experience is to coordinate with friends rather than treat the island as a purely solo campaign.
2. Explore the Outer Rim setting
Mers(a) Veta Station on Ord Ryla is the hub for the adventure. Encounters include pirates, Imperial remnants, and dangerous wildlife. These elements give the island a more specific narrative identity than a general-purpose Fortnite map.

3. Build reputation and unlock gear
Progress is expressed through reputation and equipment. The Fortnite summary describes reputation-building and gear unlocks as the central progression systems; it does not present Smugglers Gambit as a competitive Battle Royale ladder.
4. Add the attraction mission if you are visiting a park
Before riding Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, a guest can accept the linked mission in the Disneyland app or My Disney Experience app. After the ride, an eligible guest who has connected the relevant MyDisney and Epic accounts can receive ride-score credits and the Forsworn Trooper outfit. The exact reward window and eligibility terms can change, so check the current in-app instructions when you plan to ride.
How to start and connect the experiences
- Have an Epic account that can access Fortnite. Smugglers Gambit is delivered through Fortnite, so there is no separate Disney launcher or standalone edition to obtain.
- Enter the Smugglers Gambit island. Use Fortnite’s island discovery features to locate the Disney experience and launch it.
- For park-linked play, open the correct Disney app before the ride. Disneyland guests use the Disneyland app; Walt Disney World guests use My Disney Experience. Accept the available Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run mission before boarding.
- Link the accounts when prompted. The ride reward requires the eligible rider’s MyDisney and Epic accounts to be linked. Use the same accounts throughout the process; switching accounts can prevent a score or reward from being associated with the intended Fortnite profile.
- Complete the ride and return to Fortnite. Ride-linked scores can become usable credits for eligible participants, and the Forsworn Trooper outfit is an account-linked reward described by Disney and Epic.
- Play without a park visit if that is your situation. Any Fortnite player can complete a Smugglers Gambit quest for the Gambit 2D Loading Screen, even without visiting Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney’s public descriptions establish the account-linking route and the rewards, but they do not publish a single universal menu path for every device or a permanent reward deadline. Treat the current Disneyland, My Disney Experience, and Fortnite prompts as authoritative at the time you play.

Smugglers Gambit inherits Fortnite’s account and safety framework. Epic’s Safety and Security Center identifies several controls that parents and guardians can use:

- Purchase protection: a parent can require a PIN for purchases.
- Reporting and enforcement: players can report conduct, while Epic documents sanctions and an appeals process.
- Community rules: the rules define prohibited behavior across Fortnite experiences.
- Account security: Epic recommends account-security measures including two-factor authentication.
A sensible setup for a child’s account
- Confirm whether the account is a Cabined Account and complete parental consent if the child needs features that are restricted by default.
- Set voice chat deliberately rather than leaving the setting at its broadest option. Co-op missions can be played with friends, but voice access also exposes a child to other players.
- Require a purchase PIN before allowing access to V-Bucks or other digital purchases.
- Explain how to report a player and how to leave a conversation or match that feels uncomfortable.
- Enable two-factor authentication and keep the Epic account email and recovery details under adult control.
What the controls do not prove
These are available tools and stated policies, not a measured safety result. No independent study or controlled test establishes a specific child-safety outcome for Smugglers Gambit. The controls can reduce exposure and limit purchases, but they cannot guarantee that every interaction will be appropriate or that a child will never encounter abusive behavior. Supervision and clear family rules remain necessary, particularly when voice chat is enabled.
How the Fortnite economy applies to Disney’s island
Smugglers Gambit uses Fortnite’s existing digital economy
There is no separately disclosed Smugglers Gambit price in the official descriptions summarized here. The island is distributed through Fortnite and uses the platform’s account and commerce systems. Disney adds promotional cosmetics and account-linked rewards, while Fortnite supplies the underlying V-Bucks and digital-item framework.
Epic’s policy describes V-Bucks cards, digital durable and consumable items, creator-island sales, Item Shop revenue, and platform fees. Those policies explain how money can move through Fortnite; they do not establish an average spend, a Smugglers Gambit budget, or revenue generated by Disney’s island.

These percentages should not be read as a Smugglers Gambit sales forecast. They describe Fortnite’s broader rules, and Epic can change policy dates, eligibility, or payout mechanics. A V-Bucks gift card is a digital Fortnite product; availability, denomination, region, and retailer eligibility should be checked at the time of purchase.

What Disney’s rewards mean for spending
The Forsworn Trooper outfit and Gambit 2D Loading Screen are described as promotional or quest-linked rewards. The available material does not establish that either reward must be bought with V-Bucks. The ride-linked route may require participation in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and an eligible linked account, but no single total cost for the physical visit and digital experience is published here.

The strategy is larger than one island
In 2024, The Walt Disney Company invested $1.5 billion in Epic as part of a planned games and entertainment universe spanning Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and other properties. That investment is corporate context, not a stated production budget for Smugglers Gambit.
The scale of earlier collaborations shows why Fortnite is attractive as a distribution platform. The Associated Press reported more than 15.3 million concurrent players for the 2024 Marvel Nexus War with Galactus event. That historical figure is not a Smugglers Gambit player count and should not be used to estimate this island’s audience.
Fortnite is also becoming a viewing and storytelling venue
In April 2025, Epic and Disney placed the first two episodes of Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld inside Fortnite before the series’ Disney+ debut. Account linking between MyDisney and Epic could unlock a First Order Stormtrooper outfit. This was presented as the first debut of a Disney+ series in a game, extending Disney’s use of Fortnite beyond playable maps.

Disney’s 2026 D23 messaging describes Smugglers Gambit as the first extension of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run beyond the physical attraction into a connected digital Fortnite adventure, built in-house by Disney Games. Adam Sussman, president of Epic Games, described the direction this way: “Building on Epic’s technology, Disney’s Imagineers are shaping the future of interactive entertainment, where an experience goes from the physical world into Fortnite.”
Sean Shoptaw, Disney’s executive vice president of Games and Digital Entertainment, said: “For the first time, through the recently launched mission aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, the attraction extends into a connected digital adventure in Fortnite, deepening the way guests can interact and engage with both.”
Which experience fits which player?
Choose Smugglers Gambit when you want a focused Star Wars adventure
- You prefer co-op missions to an open-ended menu of unrelated modes.
- You want a persistent-feeling loop built around reputation and gear.
- You enjoy Star Wars world-building, Hondo Ohnaka, and an Outer Rim setting.
- You are visiting a Disney park and want a ride score to have a digital follow-up.
Choose broader Fortnite play when variety matters most
- You want Battle Royale, social spaces, creator-made islands, and many different genres in one platform.
- Your group does not share an interest in Star Wars or the Millennium Falcon attraction.
- You want to move among many official and community experiences rather than follow one themed mission loop.
Use both if your group wants different things
Because Smugglers Gambit is a Fortnite island, trying it does not require abandoning the rest of the platform. A group can play the Disney adventure for its missions and switch to other Fortnite modes afterward. The meaningful trade-off is focus versus breadth, not two incompatible ecosystems.
Availability, costs, and evidence limits

Verdict: a Disney adventure inside a much bigger platform
Smugglers Gambit is best understood as Disney’s most direct physical-to-digital experiment with Fortnite, not as “Disney’s own Fortnite.” It gives Star Wars fans a defined co-op mission loop, reputation and gear progression, and optional rewards tied to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Fortnite supplies the accounts, safety controls, distribution, social layer, and monetization system.
For a player who wants a self-contained Star Wars-flavored activity, the island’s focus and attraction connection are the reason to try it. For players seeking the broadest range of modes and creator experiences, Fortnite remains the larger proposition. Families should use Epic’s controls before play and treat them as safeguards to configure—not as proof that every online interaction is risk-free.
