DJI Osmo Pocket 4P Review: Is the Dual-Lens Pocket Gimbal Worth It?

Verdict: The DJI Osmo Pocket 4P is worth the extra weight and cost over a single-lens pocket gimbal only if you will use its built-in 60mm-equivalent camera. That second, 1/1.28-inch, f/1.8 camera makes portraits, events and distant subjects substantially easier to frame. If you mostly shoot arm’s-length vlogs and want the lightest, simplest setup, the Pocket 4 remains the more straightforward choice.

What the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P is

The Osmo Pocket 4P is a released handheld camera with a three-axis gimbal and two optical viewpoints. DJI positions it as a dual-lens pocket vlog camera: a wide camera for self-facing video, groups and landscapes, plus a 60mm-equivalent medium-tele camera for portraits and subjects that are farther away. DJI announced the model at Cannes in May 2026 as a compact stabilized camera with 10-bit D-Log 2, compatibility with the DJI Mic series and support for DJI stabilization accessories (DJI’s announcement).

The practical distinction is optical coverage, not a menu setting that merely enlarges the same image. The wide view is listed as 20mm equivalent in Digital Camera World’s comparison, while DJI specifies the second camera at 60mm equivalent. You can still select digital zoom beyond those native views, but those extra magnifications do not add another optical lens or the detail of a new sensor.

The second camera is the reason to buy the 4P

What 60mm equivalent changes

A 60mm-equivalent view gives a noticeably tighter perspective than the 20mm-equivalent wide camera. It lets you fill the frame with a face without moving the gimbal close to the subject, isolate a performer at an event, or record details across a room while keeping the camera in a comfortable position. DJI says the medium-tele camera’s perspective produces more natural-looking facial proportions and its wide f/1.8 aperture can create more background blur; those are manufacturer descriptions rather than independent measurements.

For a creator who alternates between talking to camera and filming other people, the two viewpoints remove a common pocket-camera compromise: the wide lens is excellent for arm’s-length framing but makes distant subjects look small, while cropping a wide image throws away detail. On the 4P, switching to the second camera is an optical change.

The lens transition is visible

Digital Camera World reviewer Adam Juniper praised the creative flexibility of the second camera but reported a noticeable jump when zooming through the full 1× to 12× range. The jump is associated with switching between the two lenses, so a continuous, perfectly smooth zoom should not be expected. For a clean shot, choose the lens before recording or make the transition deliberately as an editorial effect rather than relying on an invisible push-in (Digital Camera World review, August 5, 2026).

Optical and digital zoom are different

DJI lists photo zoom of up to 9× and video zoom of up to 12× on its UK product page. Those are product-page maximums that combine the camera’s native viewpoints with digital magnification. The only optical viewpoints established for the 4P are 20mm equivalent and 60mm equivalent. Treat 3×, 6× or 12× selections as progressively tighter crops, not as additional lenses (DJI Store UK specifications).

Image quality and recording features

Dynamic range and log recording

DJI claims up to 17 stops of dynamic range when recording in D-Log 2. That figure is a manufacturer maximum claim; the available material does not include an independent laboratory measurement. D-Log 2 is intended for a color-grading workflow, giving editors more latitude to balance bright skies and dark foregrounds than a ready-to-share picture profile.

There is an important limitation: DJI states that 10-bit D-Log 2 supports only 1× zoom. In practical terms, you should not assume that the full digital zoom range or the medium-tele framing is available while retaining that specific log mode. If a graded 10-bit master matters more than reach, plan shots around the 1× setting. If the 60mm view is the priority, check the camera’s on-screen mode and zoom restrictions before recording rather than discovering the limitation after a shoot.

Color, stabilization and portability

Digital Camera World’s review described the 4P as highly capable and specifically praised its color, dynamic range, portability and battery life. A Tom’s Guide hands-on report based on three days of shooting in Malta also described stabilization, color and dynamic range positively, while noting that some specifications were not yet available at that early stage (Tom’s Guide, June 29, 2026). These are reviewer observations, not a controlled test performed for this article.

The gimbal is valuable when you are walking, panning or filming yourself without a separate stabilizer. The pocket form also makes the 4P easier to carry than a conventional interchangeable-lens camera and gimbal combination. Its trade-off is that the second camera adds mass compared with the single-lens Pocket 4.

Resolution and frame-rate information

Digital Camera World’s comparison table lists 4K/240fps for the Pocket 4P. The table is a publication-reported specification; confirm the current manual and product page for the exact crop, codec, lighting requirements and mode combinations before planning a high-frame-rate production. A frame-rate headline alone does not establish whether every lens, color profile or stabilization option works at that setting.

Controls, screen, microphones and battery

Touchscreen and microphones

DJI lists a 2.0-inch touchscreen with 556×314 resolution and 1,000-nit brightness, along with three microphones, as specifications shared with the Pocket 4. The bright screen should be easier to monitor outdoors than a dimmer panel, while the three-microphone array provides an integrated starting point for vlogging. Wind, distance and room acoustics still determine whether an external microphone is needed.

Battery and charging

The listed battery capacity is 1,545 mAh. DJI claims 80% charge in 18 minutes and a full charge in 32 minutes when using its 65W Portable Charger, based on a laboratory test. The charger is sold separately, and the claim is a charging-time result rather than a runtime guarantee; recording resolution, frame rate, screen brightness, stabilization and temperature all affect operating time. Carry a suitable power source for a full day rather than treating the 32-minute figure as a promise of shooting endurance.

Remote control is an extra purchase

Digital Camera World lists separate remote control as a drawback. The camera can therefore be used as a self-contained handheld unit, but a remote-operated setup for locked-off shots or solo presentations requires an additional accessory. DJI also identifies compatibility with its Mic-series equipment, and the review mentions a fill lamp among the accessory possibilities. Check exact model compatibility and what is included in a bundle before ordering; accessory availability and package contents vary by market.

Pocket 4P versus Pocket 4

The decision is primarily about framing flexibility versus simplicity and weight. The figures below come from Digital Camera World’s comparison table, while DJI’s page supplies the shared screen, microphone and battery information. They are not a substitute for checking the current regional manual.

Specification Osmo Pocket 4P Osmo Pocket 4
Weight 230 g 190.5 g
Onboard storage plus microSD support 103 GB plus microSD 107 GB plus microSD
Native optical views 20mm-equivalent wide and 60mm-equivalent medium-tele 20mm-equivalent view
Listed video capability Up to 4K/240fps in the comparison table The comparison table does not list a corresponding frame-rate figure

The 39.5 g difference is small in a camera bag but noticeable when the device hangs from a neck strap or is held at arm’s length for a long take. The 4P also lists 4 GB less onboard storage in that comparison. Those are reasonable costs for the second viewpoint if you routinely need it; they are unnecessary costs if almost every shot is wide.

Choose the 4P when framing problems are frequent

  • You film portraits, interviews, ceremonies or performances where a 60mm-equivalent view keeps you at a respectful distance.
  • You switch between selfie presentation and filming other people in the same session.
  • You want an optical medium-tele perspective without carrying a second camera.
  • You accept a heavier body and a visible lens-transition jump in exchange for more composition options.

Choose the Pocket 4 when simplicity matters more

  • Your work is mostly arm’s-length vlogging, walking tours, room overviews and landscapes.
  • You want the lighter 190.5 g body listed by Digital Camera World.
  • You prefer one lens with predictable framing rather than switching between two cameras.
  • You rarely need to isolate a distant subject and would rather avoid paying for hardware you will not use.

How the 4P fits a real shooting workflow

For a solo vlog

  1. Start with the 20mm-equivalent camera for an arm’s-length composition that includes your surroundings.
  2. Set the screen brightness high enough to judge exposure outdoors; DJI lists a 1,000-nit maximum for the shared display specification.
  3. Use a compatible DJI Mic-series setup if the built-in microphones do not provide enough isolation from wind or background noise.
  4. Switch to the 60mm-equivalent camera before recording a close portrait or detail shot instead of zooming continuously during the take.
  5. If you plan to grade, select the intended color profile first and confirm whether the chosen zoom position is permitted; DJI limits 10-bit D-Log 2 to 1× zoom.

For events and interviews

Place the 4P at a position that keeps the 60mm view useful without obstructing the event. Use the wide camera for establishing shots and the medium-tele camera for faces or details. Because the transition can jump, record separate wide and tele clips rather than trying to hide a lens change in one continuous move. Carry a charging solution and a microSD card; the advertised fast-charge times do not guarantee a full day of runtime.

For graded productions

Record a short test clip with the exact lens, zoom and frame rate you intend to use. The 17-stop figure is DJI’s claim for D-Log 2, not an independently verified result, and the 1× zoom restriction can change how you plan coverage. Match white balance and exposure between the two cameras before a multi-angle sequence so the lens switch does not create an avoidable color mismatch.

Availability, price and regional differences

Availability has changed by market and date. DJI Japan’s June 23, 2026 notice said the company planned a formal announcement and release in Japan on June 29, 2026, and showed black and white variants (DJI Japan notice). Digital Camera World reported a July 30, 2026 global release except the USA and a UK starting price of £529 (Digital Camera World, July 30, 2026 release report). The £529 figure is a dated UK launch price, not a universal or current price, and the reported US exclusion means readers there must check DJI’s local channel rather than assume availability.

Before buying, verify the live price, seller, exact model, included accessories, warranty region and return policy. Bundle names can change the value significantly when a charger, microphone, remote or fill lamp is included. Do not infer US availability, tax-inclusive pricing or local support from the UK or Japanese announcements.

Accessories worth checking

  • Microphone: DJI identifies compatibility with its Mic series. Confirm the transmitter and receiver generation supported by the specific 4P firmware and bundle.
  • Remote control: A separate remote is useful for solo presentations and tripod shots, but it is not included by default according to Digital Camera World’s review.
  • Fill light: The review mentions a fill lamp as an accessory angle. Check the mounting method and whether the light is included in the package you are considering.
  • Storage: The camera has internal storage plus microSD support in the comparison table. Choose a card rated for the camera’s highest intended frame-rate and codec, and format it in-camera before an important shoot.
  • Charger: DJI’s 18-minute-to-80-percent and 32-minute-full-charge figures use a 65W Portable Charger in a laboratory test; the charger is sold separately.

How it compares with another dual-lens gimbal camera

Tom’s Guide identified Insta360 Luna Ultra as a close rival and described a detachable touchscreen that can also serve as a remote. That report is an early, dated impression, and regional specifications, recording modes, prices and accessory packages are volatile. A meaningful purchase comparison should verify, in your market, the competing camera’s lens coverage, frame rates, stabilization behavior, remote-control method, app workflow and warranty. The 4P’s clearest differentiator is that its two viewpoints are integrated into a pocket gimbal body, while the value of a rival system may depend on its detachable-control design and ecosystem.

Limitations to understand before purchase

  • Zoom continuity: The lens change can produce a visible jump, particularly across the 1×–12× range.
  • Log-mode reach: DJI says 10-bit D-Log 2 supports only 1× zoom, so the medium-tele and digital-zoom workflow may require another profile.
  • Weight: At 230 g in Digital Camera World’s table, the 4P is heavier than the Pocket 4’s listed 190.5 g.
  • Accessory cost: Remote control and the 65W charger are separate considerations, and bundle contents vary.
  • Claim versus measurement: The 17-stop dynamic-range figure and charging times are DJI claims under stated conditions, not independent test results.
  • Regional availability: The reported July 2026 launch excluded the USA, while Japan had a separate June release notice; local stock and pricing must be checked.

Who should buy the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P?

Buy the 4P if the 60mm-equivalent camera will change your shots every week. Portrait creators, travel filmmakers, event shooters and solo operators gain a genuine optical option that a single wide lens cannot reproduce without moving closer or cropping. The combination of stabilization, compact size, a bright touchscreen, 10-bit D-Log 2 and two native viewpoints makes it a particularly capable pocket system for creators who value flexibility more than minimum weight.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Pocket 4 or another simpler single-lens camera if your footage is predominantly wide self-facing video and you rarely need reach. In that case, the 4P’s extra 39.5 g, smaller listed internal storage and lens-transition behavior add compromises without solving a problem in your normal workflow.

Bottom-line buying decision

The Osmo Pocket 4P is not merely a Pocket 4 with a larger digital-zoom number. Its value comes from the second optical camera: 60mm equivalent, 1/1.28-inch and f/1.8 according to DJI. That makes the 4P the more versatile pocket gimbal for portraits and distant subjects, while the Pocket 4 remains the lighter, simpler tool for wide-first vlogging. Decide by looking at the shots you actually miss. If those missed shots need a tighter, more natural perspective, the 4P earns its premium; if they do not, the lighter model is the more rational purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P have optical zoom?

It has two native optical viewpoints: a 20mm-equivalent wide camera and a 60mm-equivalent medium-tele camera. DJI’s advertised photo zoom up to 9× and video zoom up to 12× extends those views digitally; the extra magnification is not an additional optical lens.

Can I use the 60mm camera with 10-bit D-Log 2?

DJI states that 10-bit D-Log 2 supports only 1× zoom. Confirm the camera’s on-screen restrictions for the exact recording mode before a shoot, because the telephoto framing may require another profile.
