dlaa3drs.dll is a Lexmark imaging-driver component, not a standalone Windows utility. If dlaa3drs.dll is missing, Windows usually needs the affected Lexmark printer, scanner, or WIA driver repaired rather than a randomly downloaded DLL.
The file is commonly identified as Data Retrieval Library and is associated with Lexmark International Inc. and imaging-device packages. Microsoft’s Windows Image Acquisition architecture, or WIA, provides the driver framework used by scanners and other still-image devices.
Follow these fixes in order.
1. Identify the Lexmark device that needs the file
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
The filename alone cannot identify the exact Lexmark model or package. Start by checking which device or program is producing the error.
- Note the full error message and the application named in its title bar.
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Look for a Lexmark printer or multifunction device.
- If scanning fails but printing works, open the Lexmark device entry and test scanning separately.
- If no Lexmark device is listed, check Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for a Lexmark device, an unknown device, or a device with a warning icon.
If the error appears during Windows startup and no Lexmark hardware remains connected, the original software may have been removed incompletely. In that case, reinstalling a missing DLL is not the right first move. Remove the obsolete Lexmark software or startup entry instead.

- SMALL: Compact printer fits almost anywhere (8. 7 x 14. 5 x 14. 3 inches / 222 x 368 x 363 millimeter).
The problem often begins after removing a printer, upgrading Windows, reinstalling a driver, restoring a backup, cleaning the Driver Store, or allowing antivirus software to quarantine part of the package.
2. Reinstall the exact Lexmark printer or scanner driver
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the most likely fix. Use the driver for the exact device model and Windows architecture.
- Find the model number on the printer or scanner.
- Open Lexmark’s official Drivers & Downloads page.
- Search for the exact model.
- Select your Windows version and architecture.
- Download the complete printer or multifunction package, including scanning or WIA components when offered.
- Disconnect the USB cable if the installer asks you to do so.
- Run the installer using the recommended setup option.
- Reconnect the device when prompted.
- Restart Windows.
- Test both printing and scanning.
Do not substitute a driver for a similar Lexmark model. A package can install successfully while still lacking the imaging component that requested dlaa3drs.dll.
You can also let Windows attempt the repair:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the Lexmark device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers a checkbox to remove the driver package, select it only when you intend to perform a clean reinstall.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Device Manager.
- Select Action → Scan for hardware changes, or use Update driver on the detected device.
- Test the device again.
Microsoft recommends Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer rather than third-party driver sites for driver installation. Its Device Manager guidance also covers uninstalling and reinstalling a device driver.
If Windows cannot find the driver, use Lexmark’s model-specific package instead. Do not copy dlaa3drs.dll into System32, SysWOW64, or the application directory.
When manually checking many devices and driver versions becomes tedious, Outbyte Driver Updater can show outdated drivers with a free scan; the full version performs the driver installation, but the correct Lexmark model-specific package remains the definitive fix for this file.
3. Remove and add the printer again
Time needed: 10–15 minutes
Use this step when reinstalling over the existing device does not clear the error.

Printing alone is not enough to confirm success because printing and scanning components can be separate.
4. Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5 minutes
Windows Defender or another antivirus program may have removed the file from an otherwise valid driver package.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined items.
- Open an entry that mentions
dlaa3drs.dllor a Lexmark installation. - Check the detected file’s path and originating package.
- Restore or allow it only if the path belongs to the Lexmark installation and the file has a trustworthy digital signature.
- Reinstall the Lexmark driver afterward if the device still fails.
Do not allow the file merely because its name matches the error. A malicious file can use the same filename. If the detection concerns a file in a temporary download folder, an unknown application folder, or a random archive, leave it quarantined and obtain a fresh driver from Lexmark or Windows Update.
5. Verify the file path, signature, and architecture
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
A valid copy should normally be installed as part of a driver package, not downloaded separately.

If a copy exists:
- Right-click the file.
- Select Properties.
- Check the Details tab for the description, company, and version.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Select a signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid.
- Record the full file path.
Historical records place some copies inside Windows Driver Store folders, but Driver Store folder names vary by package and Windows release. Do not treat a path such as a historical wiadl004.inf folder as a universal location.

Architecture matters:
- A commonly indexed record is a 32-bit version
1.0.0.0of about 0.71 MB. - Other records describe larger 64-bit copies from different Windows generations or driver packages.
- A 32-bit DLL cannot satisfy a 64-bit process, and a mismatched package can cause “bad image,” “not designed to run,” or
0xc000007berrors.
Install the package intended for the exact Windows architecture and device. Do not replace a 64-bit file with a 32-bit copy, or vice versa.
The message “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency of dlaa3drs.dll is missing. That is another reason a complete driver reinstall is safer than replacing one file.
6. Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use these commands when Windows itself may be damaged, especially after an interrupted upgrade, system restore, storage failure, or update problem. They do not replace a missing third-party Lexmark driver.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Lexmark device again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected system files.
If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, that does not prove the Lexmark driver is healthy. SFC does not repair arbitrary third-party files. If DISM or SFC reports that it could not complete the repair, install pending Windows updates, restart, and repeat the driver installation.
If repeatedly identifying damaged Windows components and interpreting SFC/DISM output is slowing down the repair, Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds; the full version performs the repair, but reinstalling the Lexmark package remains necessary when the missing file belongs to that driver.
7. Do not use regsvr32 unless the vendor specifically requires it
Time needed: 2 minutes
regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.

A WIA or driver-support DLL is normally installed and configured by its INF and driver package. Running this command is therefore usually inappropriate:
regsvr32 dlaa3drs.dll
It may produce an error about a missing entry point, or it may register a component without restoring its dependencies. Do not use the command unless Lexmark’s instructions for the exact package explicitly require it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.8. Handle recent updates or incompatible legacy hardware
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
If the problem began immediately after a Windows update or driver change:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the Lexmark device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
- Restart Windows and test the device.
If rollback is unavailable, remove and reinstall the device using the current Lexmark package. You can also use System Restore if a suitable restore point exists:
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Complete the restore and restart.
System Restore changes system state, applications, and settings. It does not guarantee that a discontinued scanner will receive a compatible Windows 10 or Windows 11 driver.
For old hardware whose driver is unavailable, check Lexmark’s support information for the exact model and Windows version. If no compatible package exists, Windows may support basic printing while scanning remains unavailable. Avoid forcing an unrelated driver or copying a DLL from another computer.

FAQ
Is dlaa3drs.dll a Windows system file or a Lexmark file?
It can appear in historical Windows or Driver Store records, but public file metadata identifies it as Lexmark’s Data Retrieval Library. Its packaging varies by Windows generation and driver release, so it should not be described as a universal file present on every Windows installation.
Which Lexmark model installed it?
The filename cannot identify one exact model. It is associated with Lexmark imaging-device and WIA packages, so inspect the installed printer, scanner, driver properties, and error-producing application.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Usually no. dlaa3drs.dll is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET file. Repair the Lexmark driver first.
Is downloading the DLL from a DLL website safe?
No. The file may have the wrong architecture, missing dependencies, invalid signature, or malware. It often fails to repair the underlying driver installation. Use Windows Update or Lexmark’s official driver support instead.
What if only scanning fails?
Reinstall the scanning or WIA portion of the Lexmark package. Printing and scanning drivers can be separate, so working print output does not prove that the imaging component is intact.
What if the error names a program I no longer use?
Remove the obsolete Lexmark application or startup entry instead of restoring the DLL. A startup error from removed hardware often indicates leftover software.
When should I contact Lexmark?
Contact Lexmark when the exact model has no compatible Windows driver, installation repeatedly fails, or the file signature and package contents do not match. Provide the device model, Windows edition and build, exact error text, and the steps already attempted.
