dlldev32.dll is a 32-bit third-party library associated with DLLDEV32 and published by PoINT Software & Systems GmbH, not a normal Windows system file. The safest fix is to identify the application that needs it, then repair or reinstall that application from its original installer or supported vendor source.
What this file actually does
dlldev32.dll is described in public file metadata as PoINT Shared DLL. It is associated with DLLDEV32, and listed copies are identified as 32-bit files from PoINT Software & Systems GmbH.

Some file indexes describe the library as a “PoINT Private DLL” instead. That difference does not change the practical repair: this is an application library, not a file that Windows normally restores through Windows Update.

PoINT develops Windows software and components associated with optical-media publishing and related applications. However, no current public product manifest conclusively identifies every end-user application that installs dlldev32.dll. The program named in your error, its installation folder, and the DLL’s location are more useful than the filename alone.
A 32-bit application normally loads a private DLL from its own program directory. That means the correct copy usually belongs beside the application executable, not in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Common reported messages include:
- “The program can’t start because dlldev32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
- “There was a problem starting dlldev32.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading dlldev32.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because dlldev32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”
- “dlldev32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in the dynamic link library dlldev32.dll.”
These messages can have different causes. In particular, “the specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency that dlldev32.dll needs, even when dlldev32.dll itself is present.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Fix 1: Identify the application that needs dlldev32.dll
Before downloading or copying anything, determine which program is producing the error.
Check the error window
Read the first line of the message and note the executable name. It may identify the program directly, for example:
SomeApplication.exe - System Error
Write down the executable name and take a screenshot. If the message appears when you open a shortcut, continue with the shortcut properties.
Check the shortcut target
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Note the folder containing the executable.
- Select Cancel when finished.
The folder beside the executable is the first place to look for dlldev32.dll. Do not replace the file yet. First determine whether it is present, whether it is in the expected program directory, and whether its properties identify PoINT Software & Systems GmbH.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Check installed applications
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the application named in the error.
- Also search for entries containing PoINT, Publisher, or another name matching the program folder.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Search the installed-program list.
You can also open the older program list:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Look for the application associated with the error.
If you cannot identify a parent application, do not guess. Preserve the executable path, DLL path, file properties, and Windows version for the original software vendor or PoINT support.
Fix 2: Repair the parent application
Repair is preferable to copying a replacement DLL because it can restore the correct library and any dependencies together.
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the application that produces the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again after the repair completes.
Some programs provide their own repair entry instead:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Right-click the affected application.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
If the application opens afterward, the repair restored the correct files. If the same error remains, restart Windows once and test again. If it still fails, continue with a complete reinstall.
Fix 3: Reinstall the exact application
Use the original installer, licensed installation media, the organization’s software repository, or the supported download supplied by the software vendor. Do not obtain an isolated dlldev32.dll file from a random DLL download site.
- Close the affected application.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the application.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows if the uninstaller requests it.
- Run the original installer as an administrator.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation without changing its application directory unless the vendor instructs you to.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the program from its normal shortcut.
If the application came from a launcher, use that launcher’s Repair, Verify, or Verify integrity command instead of deleting individual files.
A successful reinstall should place the matching 32-bit library in the application’s installation directory and allow the executable to start. If the installer finishes but the DLL disappears again, check antivirus quarantine before reinstalling repeatedly.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine a damaged, altered, or incorrectly detected application file. Do not disable antivirus protection just to force a DLL into place.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Check Protection history
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an entry naming
dlldev32.dll, the parent application, or its installation folder. - Open the detection details.
Only restore a file when its origin is trusted, the application was installed from genuine media, and the publisher and location are consistent with the original installation. If the file came from an unknown download or an unusual temporary folder, remove it and reinstall the parent application instead.
If a trusted installation is repeatedly quarantined:
- Update Windows Security definitions.
- Scan the installer and the application folder.
- Download a fresh installer from the original vendor.
- Contact the software vendor if the detection continues.
The absence of a detection does not prove that a missing DLL was caused by antivirus software.
Fix 5: Replace the application copy, not the system copy
Windows normally searches an application’s directory before system directories when loading a private DLL. For that reason, the correct location for dlldev32.dll is generally the folder containing the affected application, or another folder explicitly configured by that application.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not copy a 32-bit DLL into both of these locations:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not interchangeable. On 64-bit Windows, System32 is primarily used for 64-bit system components, while SysWOW64 contains many 32-bit system components. Neither folder is a general-purpose storage location for private application libraries.
Global copying can cause:
- The wrong program to load an incompatible version.
- DLL search-order or hijacking risks.
- New errors in unrelated applications.
- Confusing results when the original program is later repaired.
If you already copied dlldev32.dll into a Windows system directory, remove only the file you added after confirming it is not an original Windows component. Then reinstall the parent application into its normal directory.
Fix 6: Check for a missing dependency
A present dlldev32.dll does not guarantee that the application can load it. The library may depend on another runtime or support DLL that is absent, damaged, or the wrong architecture.

This is safer than downloading individual dependencies because the installer should supply the versions expected by the program.
If the complete error separately names a Microsoft runtime, install that runtime from Microsoft’s official download page. Examples include:
MSVCP###.dllVCRUNTIME###.dllapi-ms-win-crt-*.dll
The Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages include separate x86 and x64 installers. A 32-bit application generally needs the x86 package, even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Installing Visual C++ is not a replacement for dlldev32.dll, and it will not repair a missing PoINT library by itself.

Do not install DirectX, .NET, drivers, or registry cleaners unless the complete error or the parent application specifically shows that one of them is required.
Fix 7: Confirm the architecture and file properties
Public listings identify dlldev32.dll as a 32-bit library. A 64-bit replacement is not interchangeable with a 32-bit application library.
To inspect the file:
- Browse to the application’s installation folder.
- Right-click
dlldev32.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Check the description, product name, publisher information, and version.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm whether Windows reports that the signature is valid.
A missing signature does not automatically prove that the file is malicious, particularly for old software. However, a copy found in a temporary folder, a user-writable folder, or an unrelated program directory deserves additional scrutiny.
If the file exists but the error says it is not designed to run on Windows, or a procedure entry point is missing, treat it as a version or architecture mismatch. Reinstall the parent application rather than substituting a file from another program.
Fix 8: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components. They are not expected to restore a vendor-private DLL that Windows never shipped, but they are useful when other Windows files are also damaged or the problem began after broader system corruption.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test the program. If both commands complete successfully but dlldev32.dll remains missing, return to repairing or reinstalling the parent application.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM will not manufacture a private PoINT DLL. If the parent application is damaged, its own installer remains the definitive repair.
If manually identifying damaged Windows components and repeating SFC/DISM is becoming difficult, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported issues; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair features require the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the application that owns dlldev32.dll remains the definitive fix.
Fix 9: Use System Restore when the timing is clear
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after an installation, update, or configuration change. It does not replace personal files, but it can reverse some installed-program and system-state changes.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
After Windows starts, test the original application. If the problem remains, reinstall the application rather than repeatedly restoring the system.
Fix 10: Update the old application or its drivers only when relevant
An old application may fail on a newer Windows installation because of compatibility changes, not because dlldev32.dll itself is a Windows file. Check the original vendor for an updated build, compatibility guidance, or supported prerequisites.
Do not install a driver merely because a DLL error appears. Device Manager is relevant only when the application depends on a specific optical drive, controller, or other device and Windows shows a hardware problem.
To check:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If the device still fails, obtain the driver from the hardware manufacturer or your computer manufacturer. Updating a driver will not directly restore dlldev32.dll.
If manually hunting through hardware vendors and matching driver versions is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show reported driver issues; the free scan identifies findings, while driver installation through the full version is optional. Use it only for a genuine driver problem, because reinstalling the parent application remains the correct repair for this DLL.
Do not register dlldev32.dll with regsvr32
Do not start with:
regsvr32 dlldev32.dll
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering DLLs, ActiveX controls, and OLE components that export registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. A normal private support library does not become usable merely because it was registered.
Running the command can produce another error, including a missing entry point or architecture mismatch. Use it only if the software vendor explicitly instructs you to register this particular file.
Is dlldev32.dll malware
There is no verified evidence that the legitimate PoINT library itself is malware. Malware can nevertheless use a familiar filename, replace an application file, or place a DLL in an unusual directory.

- Review its location and publisher information.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab.
- Open Windows Security.

- Select Scan options.
- Choose Full scan.
- Select Scan now.
A copy beside the known application executable is more consistent with a legitimate installation than a copy in a temporary or user-writable folder. If the path is suspicious, do not restore the file from quarantine or add an antivirus exclusion until the original vendor confirms it.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Downloading dlldev32.dll from an unrelated DLL repository can give you:
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
- A version that lacks the exports your application expects.
- A file missing its own dependencies.
- A modified or malicious file.
- A library that does not match the rest of the application.
It can also hide the real cause, such as an incomplete installation, antivirus quarantine, or damaged application directory. The safe sources are the original application installer, genuine installation media, the software vendor’s supported download, or PoINT support when the parent product cannot be identified.
Frequently asked questions
Is dlldev32.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with DLLDEV32 and PoINT Software & Systems GmbH, so treat it as a private third-party application library.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Which program installs dlldev32.dll?
Public information does not conclusively identify one modern end-user program for every copy. Look at the error’s executable name, shortcut target, installation directory, and installed-program list. Legacy PoINT software and applications using PoINT components are possible sources.
Should I put dlldev32.dll in System32?
No. A 32-bit application normally expects its private DLL in or near its own installation directory. Copying it into System32 or SysWOW64 can create compatibility and security problems.
Will Visual C++ fix the error?
Only if the error also names a missing Microsoft runtime such as MSVCP###.dll or VCRUNTIME###.dll. Visual C++ does not replace dlldev32.dll.
