Before changing Windows files, identify the program that is failing. dlldrv32.dll is not a normal Windows component. It is a third-party application DLL associated with PoINT Software & Systems GmbH and the DLLDRV32 program.
Check these details:
- Which application shows the error? Write down its name from the dialog, shortcut, Start menu entry, or launcher.
- When does it fail? Note whether the error appears when Windows starts, when opening the program, during disc burning, or after an update, cleanup, migration, or antivirus event.
- Where is the program installed? Right-click its shortcut, select Properties, and inspect Target. You can also select Open File Location.
- Is the application 32-bit or 64-bit? Older software associated with this DLL is likely to be 32-bit. A 32-bit program needs its compatible x86 files even when it runs on 64-bit Windows.
- Was the file quarantined? Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history and look for a recent removal.
Do not start by downloading a replacement DLL from a random website. The safest repair is to restore the complete application installation that originally supplied the file.

The DLL appears to belong to older CD/DVD authoring, recording, imaging, or media-production software that incorporated PoINT technology. The exact parent application cannot be determined from the filename alone. Current PoINT product information does not establish a complete list of older applications that may have included this DLL or provide a current standalone download for it.
dlldrv32.dll is not known to be:
- A Windows system DLL
- A Microsoft Visual C++ runtime
- A DirectX component
- A .NET runtime file
- A kernel driver
- A file that normally belongs in
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64
The 32 in the name refers to the older 32-bit component context. It does not mean that the file is a Windows driver.
What the error message means
You may see wording such as:
- “This application failed to start because dlldrv32.dll was not found.”
- “The file dlldrv32.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: dlldrv32.dll.”
- “Error loading dlldrv32.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The program can’t start because dlldrv32.dll is missing from your computer.”
These messages generally mean that the application loader could not use the DLL it expected. The file may genuinely be absent, but “The specified module could not be found” can also indicate that a dependency of dlldrv32.dll is missing.
A file can exist and the program can still fail because:
- The copy is damaged.
- The application is loading a different installation.
- The DLL is the wrong architecture.
- A required dependency is missing.
- Antivirus software blocked or removed it.
- The application expects a different historical build.
- The program is obsolete and no longer works correctly on the current Windows version.
Fix 1: Repair the application that owns the DLL
This is the most likely and safest fix.
Find the correct application
- Press Windows key and search for the program named in the error.
- Right-click the application shortcut and select Open file location.
- If this opens a shortcut folder, right-click the shortcut again and select Properties.
- Read the Target field. This shows the executable Windows is actually launching.
- Select Open File Location and look for the program’s private folder.
- Check whether
dlldrv32.dllis beside the application executable or inside a subfolder such asbin, runtime, orsystem.
Also inspect the installed-program list:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Search for the application named in the error.
- If it is not listed, open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Look for the older authoring, recording, imaging, or media application that starts the error.
Do not repair a similarly named program unless its installation path matches the executable that is failing.
Use Windows’ repair option
For a packaged application on Windows 11:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
For classic desktop software:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Right-click the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
A successful repair normally restores the DLL to the application’s own folder and allows the program to start without a new missing-file message. If the same error remains, continue with a complete reinstall rather than copying a DLL into a Windows directory.
Fix 2: Reinstall from the original installer
If repair is unavailable or unsuccessful, reinstall the parent application.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Back up any application projects, profiles, presets, or license information.
- Uninstall the affected application from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, or from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Use the original installation disc, verified vendor installer, or the software’s legitimate launcher.
- Temporarily close other programs that may interfere with the installer.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator if the vendor documentation requires elevated installation.
- Complete the installation without manually replacing individual DLLs.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the application from its newly installed shortcut.
For software managed by a launcher, use its repair function instead:
- Open the launcher.
- Select the affected application.
- Open its settings or management menu.
- Choose Verify files, Verify integrity, or Repair.
- Wait for the scan and replacement process to finish.
- Start the application again.
The exact launcher menu varies, and there is no evidence that every launcher-managed application using this DLL has the same repair option.
If reinstalling restores the file but antivirus removes it again, do not repeatedly reinstall. Check Protection History before deciding whether the detection is a false positive.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Defender or another security product may have removed the DLL during a cleanup operation.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the application stopped working.
- Expand any detection associated with the application folder or
dlldrv32.dll. - Record the detected path and the action taken.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are satisfied:
- The file came from the application’s original installer or trusted vendor media.
- The application itself is legitimate.
- The detected path is the expected private application folder.
- You have checked the installer and system for other signs of compromise.
Do not blindly select Allow on device for an unknown copy. If the provenance is unclear, remove the application, obtain a trusted installer, and reinstall it instead. Scan the installer and the system before launching the repaired program.
A successful repair after quarantine should leave dlldrv32.dll in the application’s expected folder. If the file disappears again, the security product may be identifying a modified or counterfeit copy, or the installation may be damaged.
Fix 4: Confirm the 32-bit application path
Available metadata identifies this DLL as x86. That matters because a 32-bit application normally loads its private 32-bit DLL from the application directory or one of its runtime folders.
Do not copy the file into both system directories. On 64-bit Windows:
C:WindowsSystem32is primarily the native 64-bit system directory.C:WindowsSysWOW64contains 32-bit compatibility components.
Neither directory is the normal home for this third-party DLL.

To check the application architecture, inspect the vendor’s documentation or the executable properties. You can also use Task Manager while the application is running:
- Start Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Select Details.
- Right-click the column headings and enable Select columns if needed.
- Look for architecture information where Windows provides it.
The most reliable correction for an architecture mismatch is to install the correct build of the parent application. Replacing an x86 DLL with an unrelated 64-bit file will not make a 32-bit program work.
Fix 5: Check for a missing dependency
A Windows loader message can name dlldrv32.dll even when a dependency required by that DLL is the actual missing module.
Check the application’s installation logs, error logs, and vendor documentation for a more specific dependency name. If the application reports files such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll, install the appropriate official Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package rather than downloading those files individually.
Microsoft provides separate packages for x86, x64, and ARM64 systems. A 32-bit application generally needs the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows. Install a Visual C++ package only when the application or its diagnostics identify that runtime as missing. It is not the primary fix for dlldrv32.dll itself.
Do not install DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++ packages at random simply because the application mentions a DLL. Those components cannot restore a missing PoINT file.

Fix 6: Update or reinstall the application’s drivers
Older disc-authoring and media applications sometimes depend on device drivers, optical-drive components, or legacy media interfaces. A driver problem can prevent the application from working even after its private DLL has been restored.
First check for updates from the application vendor. Then inspect Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as DVD/CD-ROM drives, Storage controllers, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the General and Driver tabs for an error code or failed device state.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a device with a warning icon, uninstalling the device and restarting Windows can allow Windows to detect it again:
- Right-click the device in Device Manager.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm only if you have identified the correct device.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application.
Do not uninstall storage controllers or other critical devices casually. If the application is obsolete, a current driver may not restore compatibility with its legacy components.
When you are manually hunting through hardware vendors and comparing driver versions, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix when dlldrv32.dll itself is missing.
Fix 7: Check Windows Features only when the application requires one
Some older media applications depend on optional Windows components, but enabling random features will not normally restore dlldrv32.dll.
If the application documentation names a Windows feature:
- Press Windows key and search for Turn Windows features on or off.
- Open the result.
- Locate the specifically required feature.
- Select its checkbox.
- Select OK.
- Allow Windows to install the component.
- Restart if prompted.
- Test the application.
Do not enable legacy components solely because their names sound related to disc writing or media playback. If Windows asks for installation media or reports that the component cannot be installed, stop and use the application vendor’s compatibility guidance.
Fix 8: Run DISM and SFC for possible Windows corruption
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not normally retrieve a missing third-party PoINT DLL, so use them when Windows itself is showing broader problems, not as the first response to this filename.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete and test the application.
Possible outcomes include:
- No integrity violations: Windows protected files were not the problem.
- Corrupt files repaired: Restart and test again.
- Files could not be repaired: Run DISM again after checking Windows Update, then repeat SFC.
- The application still reports
dlldrv32.dll: Repair or reinstall the parent application.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without checking what changed will not replace a private application DLL. If you want help automating the manual component checks, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system issues; its free scan identifies problems, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix for this file.

System Restore can help when the failure began immediately after an application installation, driver change, or Windows configuration change and a suitable restore point exists.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Open Recovery.
- Select Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not personal documents. It may not restore the application’s complete private folder, so reinstall the parent program if the DLL remains missing.

Why manual DLL downloads usually fail
A standalone download may have the wrong:
- Architecture
- Historical version
- Export set
- Dependency set
- File provenance
- Installation path
Even a file with the correct name can be counterfeit or modified. Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, or an arbitrary application folder can also create DLL search-order conflicts and hide the real installation problem.
The safe sources are:
- The original application installer
- Trusted vendor installation media
- The application’s verified launcher
- A repair operation built into Windows or the application
- Official Microsoft packages when the error specifically identifies a Microsoft dependency
There is no established current official standalone PoINT download for dlldrv32.dll, no complete public dependency list, and no definitive public inventory of every application that may have bundled it.
Why regsvr32 is normally the wrong command
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a generic command for restoring missing DLLs.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not run:
regsvr32 dlldrv32.dll
unless the application vendor explicitly documents that this particular DLL must be registered. If the command reports that DllRegisterServer is missing, that indicates the file is not intended to be registered that way. It does not prove that the DLL is damaged.
If reinstalling still does not work
Collect this information before contacting the application vendor or PoINT:
- Full error text
- Name and version of the affected application
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 edition
- Path to the failing executable
- Location of
dlldrv32.dll, if present - Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Date the problem began
- Recent reinstall, update, migration, or antivirus event
- Protection History entry
- Installer or application log
- Any dependency error shown by the application
A successful reinstall followed by the same error may mean that:
- The wrong application was repaired.
- A launcher is starting a second installation.
- Antivirus removes the file again.
- The application is loading another copy.
- A required dependency is absent.
- The legacy program is incompatible with current Windows.
Older software may rely on CD/DVD drivers or media APIs that no longer behave correctly on newer Windows versions. Compatibility settings can be tested only after preserving the original installation and data, and they should not replace vendor guidance.
FAQ
Is dlldrv32.dll legitimate?
Yes, the filename has consistent public metadata identifying it as PoINT Shared DLL, associated with DLLDRV32 and PoINT Software & Systems GmbH. That does not make every downloaded copy authentic. Validate the file through the original application installer.
Is `dlldrv32.dll part of Windows?
There is no reliable evidence that it ships with Windows. It should normally remain beside the application that uses it, not in System32 or SysWOW64.
Does this file belong to a Windows driver?
No. The 32 suffix refers to the 32-bit component context. It does not identify a kernel or hardware driver.
Should I install Visual C++ or DirectX?
Only if the application separately reports a missing Microsoft runtime or documents that prerequisite. Those packages are not the normal solution for a missing dlldrv32.dll.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallShould I register it with regsvr32?
Normally no. It is described as a shared application DLL, not as a demonstrated COM registration component.
Why does the file exist but the program still fail?
The application may be loading another copy, the file may be the wrong architecture, a dependency may be missing, or security software may be blocking it.
Can SFC restore this DLL?
Not normally. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while dlldrv32.dll is identified as a third-party application file. Repair or reinstall the owning application instead.
Where should the DLL go?
Usually in the affected application’s installation directory or its private runtime folder. Do not scatter it through Windows system directories.
What is the safest fix?
Identify the program named in the error, repair it, and then reinstall it from its original or verified installer if repair fails. This restores the complete application package rather than guessing which standalone DLL build is needed.
